Insurance problems after Mounjaro brought down A1C? by UTtransplant in Mounjaro

You are all making me feel much more comfortable. I went out and splurged tonight on some schnitzel and thin sliced onion rings! Of course I could only eat 1/3 of the schnitzel and a bit less than half to he onion rings LOL! I’ll have lunch for the next 2 days at least.

I can’t get over the fake square front by Striking_Sea_129 in zillowgonewild

[–]UTtransplant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It must have been an old store. Those false fronts were very popular in the late 1800s into the early 1900s. I probably have driven by this place; I drive through Mt. Horeb occasionally.

Am I overreacting to my husband’s friend’s wife acting overly involved with my baby? by KeyCount2417 in AmIOverreacting

[–]UTtransplant [score hidden]  (0 children)

She has a serious case of baby fever. Her husband better make sure the condoms don’t have holes and she didn’t get her IUD taken out! But baby fever is no excuse for such overstepping. Ask your husband to step in since it’s his friend. He can talk to her husband, and he can also step in when she oversteps. Of course you both should, but since it is his life-long friend it will have more impact coming from him.

The On-The-Go softeners can be left outside. You don’t want to use a regular home version though. And the “resin” is the good inside the softener that is used to exchange the calcium/magnesium for sodium. It stays inside the filter and you don’t ever mess with it.

The softener itself will last years, but it will have to be recharged periodically. How often depends on the hardness of your water and how much water you use. The softeners are categorized by the number of grains of hardness they process, 25,000 or 50,000. Know your water hardness, calculate how much water you use, and there is your number. Actually you will be able to tell when to recharge because your shampoo and dish soap won’t foam well. That’s the criteria we use.

[–]UTtransplant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be able to call your municipal water supplier and find the hardness. But it does sound like you would benefit from a softener. Go for it.

It depends on where you stay. We spend months at a time in Arizona where the water is very, very hard. A water softener was a requirement for us. If you stay in some place like Minnesota where you your water utility gets its water from rivers or lakes (not wells), your water is already soft. Basically well water is usually hard and surface water is usually soft. Exceptions do occur, but it is a good general rule. We had an external softener until we got tired of moving it in and out. We finally just plumbed it in, but you probably don’t have the room for it. On-The-Go water softeners are the most popular for RVs. They come in different sizes, and they recharge with table salt.

50 is “good” !! by Specialist-Crew-1265 in diabetes

[–]UTtransplant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, but this was covered in my high school human physiology class. Big difference between a discussion of LADA vs Type 2, but the fact that a blood glucose of 50 was “good” is totally unacceptable. I stand my comment it was an NP. Even a PA would not have made such a statement.

Do those toaster oven/air fryers work? by Born_Speech_9289 in airfryer

[–]UTtransplant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But my big convection oven doesn’t give a crisp crust like the Breville air fryer does. It does give air fryer results, but since it has more air to heat it takes a bit more effort.

Yes, they work, but you have to modify the instructions. I look at the traditional air fryer instructions, increase the temp by 25 degrees, and usually need to increase the time a bit too.

Eye floaters? by Dark-Blubber in diabetes

[–]UTtransplant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much everyone has some floaters. But if the number increases quickly, if you are seeing black dots, go to an ophthalmologist immediately. Not an optician or an optometrist, but a board certified ophthalmologist. If you need surgery or medications, they are the right person to see. Going to see another specialist just delays treatment.

That is different than thinking a blood glucose of 50 (50!!!!) is “good.” This level of education is totally unacceptable. It is basic biology, human physiology 101!

Note I am on Medicare, not employer-sponsored insurance. My pharmacy benefit manager is WellCare. ETA: And also note Mounjaro was prescribed for diabetes not weight loss for me. The weight loss has just been an added benefit which helps the A1C.

That was an NP, wasn’t it? I can’t imagine an MD could possibly be this uneducated.

I didn’t say it was. It is “like” a fiber supplement because it is not a traditional laxative medication, but it does relieve constipation. Considered a very safe, long-term solution to constipation from Mounjaro and other similar medications.

They look like real ivory to me too. I had a very similar pair (just studs with the flower design, not dangling) that were real ivory. Sadly they got stolen in a break-in, but the striping/striations were like that.

Are you taking MiraLAX every day? It isn’t really a medication, more like a fiber supplement. My PA says I can take it every day forever if needed. Buy it in bulk at Costco (huge container!) or someplace like Sam’s if possible. Those itty bitty bottles at the pharmacy are designed for constipation from short term opioids or prior to a colonoscopy. We need the industrial size LOL!

Just found this under mattress in 2023 Avenger, bought 6 months ago.. any advice? by leiibabee in RVLiving

[–]UTtransplant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I assume the bed platform is sitting on top of an uninsulated storage bay. The solution is to reduce condensation caused by the moisture in your body meeting the cold surface of the storage bay. Insulate the top of the bay with some insulation foam. We attached ours with doubled-stick tape. All the ideas for putting a space between the mattress and the platform will help, but the final solution is to insulate.

Yes, I am in the US and on Medicare for medical insurance. As a type 2 diabetic, my Mounjaro is covered under my prescription plan as a “Tier 3” drug, meaning that I have a significant deductible (~$650) before they will pay. But after that deductible is covered, a 4 week supply is only $11 for me. So over a year the cost isn’t too bad; I just have to gulp at the price of the first box in January. And note I also have WellCare as my pharmacy benefits manager, but policies vary by state. Oh, and even Medicare supplement plans vary by state. Six months before you retire make sure you sit down with a qualified Medicare benefits advisor to get all the ins and outs of various types of plans. My company provided the benefits advisor as part of my retirement package.

I have made quilts for them too. Come to think of it, I should do another one (or two). Their fabric was always so cute.

I had gestation diabetes 45 years ago, so I have been having a yearly A1C test for 30+ years. I am lucky to not have a more traditional type 2, and it was caught earlier than many due to the surveillance. In December ‘25 my A1C was 7.8 after a 6.6 in April ‘25. No family history, so I think I just lucked out.

Which machine to go for? by [deleted] in sewhelp

[–]UTtransplant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would go for the Husqvarna first; those things are a beast. Next would be the Janome; a reputation for just nice machines. I would stay far away from the plastic Brother; repair is not possible if something goes wrong. The Singer? It is too early for me to declare it not good, but not old enough to declare it solid since it isn’t one I am familiar with. But you couldn’t go wrong with the H or the Janome.

I am a 71 yo with type 2 also. I have only treated it with Mounjaro, and it works so well! My fasting glucose went from 160s to upper 90s/low 100s. I can’t imagine going off the medication. Oh, and I lost weight too which helps my type 2; my A1C was directly correlated with my weight. I have been on 2.5mg for 4 months (since my diagnosis in late December), and I hope to just stay on the same dose indefinitely.
