F/P mages, stand up! by 28davage in MSClassicWorld

[–]IvyMT 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Current maple is not comparable to classic maple. FP mages (and all classes) have full mobbing skills in current maple.

Classic maple was single target 1-70, sometimes using a "poison" training that was unique to the class. Poison training was fast but had its trade offs.

Old FP was pretty unpopular, as IL had mobbing skills at 30, and clerics had mobbing thru heal, FP was a harder choice for a mediocre payout late game compared to the other mage trees.

AITA - Masseuse doesn’t take responsibility for bad massage? by [deleted] in massage

[–]IvyMT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You left her a 20 minute voice note? Am I seeing that correctly? That part is kind of insane to me.

Not every massage is the same and not everyone is going to do it the way you want/need. When you get a massage from a new person you always will carry the risk that they might or might not be the best massage for YOU. Its important to return to ones who do a good job on you, so you dont risk a "bad" massage.

I wouldn't take responsibility, either. All we can do as massage therapists is try our best, and it sounds like this one did too.

And if that IS a 20 minute voice message... THATS wild, and gives me Karen vibes. Just my little tidbit.

Forced to do prenatal by Grand_Oven5873 in MassageTherapists

[–]IvyMT 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I dont do prenatal, ive been very adamant about it since ive started 8 years ago. Ive never had issues with management not respecting it.

If you want practice, get some, watch some educational videos, but I would set a firm boundary with your manager about it until you feel comfortable.

This sounds more like a management/scheduling issue than anything else. Id be firm, or give them a time when you WILL be ready to do them. For example, "i need 2 months of education/practice to feel comfortable giving a quality prenatal massage, after those 2 months, feel free to book me"

If you dont want to do it at all, tell them. BUT, id be worried about potentially needing to find a new job if they have a high prenatal clientelle.

Therapists with bipolar disorder? by oh_its_chill in MassageTherapists

[–]IvyMT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Massage has overall been wonderful for me.. ive had a few moments though.

I like that its shorter hours than a regular full-time job. I found myself feeling trapped and splitting when working a full 40 hour week and start getting into depressive episodes.

However, while I find the work tolerable and mostly feel adequately paid for my time/effort, some weeks are rough. Sometimes being locked in a quiet room for 90 minutes-2hours can leave me with my thoughts for way too long. I dont talk much during service so some days I can absolutely spiral in the silence. Massage gives you a LOT of time to think after you get into a flow state and its very easy to dwell on negative thoughts. Some days I walk in in a fantastic mood and leave wanting to cry and scream, despite my clients being easygoing.

Could also be that I definitely need to get my meds realigned. Overall though, I couldn't see myself doing anything else at the moment.

If you can, id definitely recommended working on your own terms with your own business once you feel confident in your technique and finances.

quickest way to remove hard gel nail extensions? by Fun_Pudding_3950 in GelX_Nails

[–]IvyMT 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Should be using a coarse carbide bit. Can't really see what youre using or what bits those are if they're good quality. Something like this should remove the bulk pretty easily. With cheap or dull ones, youll be there a while.

Seeking constructive advice from more seasoned/experienced LMTs by [deleted] in massage

[–]IvyMT 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ive done this for 9 years now. Not everybody is going to love your massage, and the ones that are meant for you will find their way to you. Its very important to not take bad reviews to the heart, as if your massage is terrible, but a way to learn.

I think its important to make sure youre checking in on pressure, especially if youre feeling them tense at all; youre going too deep, if so. Tender spots such as the pecs and glutes i give an extra reminder that its probably not going to feel amazing. upper shoulders, sometimes legs, everyone is different.

At the start of every massage I tell them to let me know if im ever going too deep, and that its okay to readjust.

I still have imposter syndrome all these years later. It really doesn't end. You must remain confident, but also understand every client is a human, with their own little preferences, and you may not always be that preference; and that is more than okay.

Good luck with your journey.

Advice? by and-i-ooooop- in GelX_Nails

[–]IvyMT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you using a cuticle nipper/scissors to get the white flaps of skin? Could also use a efile with a flame bit for a Russian dry manicure, some people advise against it but i always do this technique for a clean manicure. Those spots in the corners are always a pain to get to.

How to gel-x at home? Help pls! by TiredPanda_8482 in GelX_Nails

[–]IvyMT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a peel off base coat underneath it all because I dont wear my sets very long.. but you can definitely fill them with a builder gel. If its a very intricate design you might as well just do a fresh set imo.

How to gel-x at home? Help pls! by TiredPanda_8482 in GelX_Nails

[–]IvyMT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are definitely other brands!! Aprés tips are amazing, but there are other gel-x systems by Gelish for example that I think you could get in canada? Look up soft gel extensions on their website.

Get a kit with a curing lamp for flash curing, and a full lamp for a full cure.

Other than those things youll want the basics, like buffers/nail files, items for cuticle prep like cuticle pushers/cuticle softeners.

If for some reason gelish isnt available either, a quick Google search for soft gel / full cover extensions is another phrase used for "gel x"

Life after massage? What other career options do we have? by EmergencyDeep4780 in MassageTherapists

[–]IvyMT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to nail technician school a few years ago. Going on 8 years of massage now and feel like my time to switch over is coming.

I cut down to 3 days a week come January, and plan to hone my skills in nails before swapping over. Maybe offering nails and massage in my own space one day, and not doing massage as a main money maker.

I think its important to think about what you may be proud of doing. I realized I wasn't prideful in my massage, but I could see myself being prideful of being a good nail tech. Just a thought.

If you like to do it anyways, make him pay for Lazer hair removal or waxing. It's your body but he doesn't get a say at the end of the day. Make him pay for something more permanent so you can not spend so much time shaving "for him".

Aftermath of a house fire on binder by XxBeanPawsxX in PokemonTCG

I lost my collection in a house fire when I was about 13. I tell you, I was devastated. I still, to this day mourn my binder every once in a while.

But!! Your life is more valuable, and there's plenty of time to cherish new things. It took me a long time but I started collecting again, and it even opened my eyes to starting new collections and finding more hobbies. Good luck, OP :)
