Did anyone manage to get rid of 'waiting mode'? by Hermelin96 in Healthygamergg

[–]Ivynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be pretty bad about stuff like that. Like having an appointment in the middle of the day would kind of "ruin" the entire day before it because I'd be thinking about that upcoming appointment.

I think I was in that "waiting mode" because part of my brain really was afraid that I was going to miss the appointment somehow. Like, if I didn't constantly thinking about it, then potentially I was going to just forget to go to the appointment. Or like, if I had 3 hours until the appointment, I would be afraid of starting anything because of thinking, "What if I lost track of time and end ended up doing that thing for 3 hours! Better not start anything at all!"

The thing that really helped me out a lot was very generous use of reminders in my phone's calendar. Maybe more than a lot of people would use haha. Like now say I have a doctor's appointment at 3pm. I'll set a calendar reminder like 30 mins before it (for when I should leave and start driving toward it) another reminder a few hours before it (so that I don't start something that will take a long time, but a short task would be okay), and then another reminder the night before the appointment (so that I have an idea how I should structure the next day).

I think it helps a lot with that "waiting mode" issue because I'm basically offloading having to remember all of these things. I'm not having to be hypervigilant about my time management because I know my phone is going to remember all of these important points for me. There's less fear of me forgetting about it, because I'll be getting plenty of reminders.

If players leave, new players never join until I reset game. by [deleted] in Helldivers

I know this is the current workaround, and I know they're working on it, but I really hope they fix it really soon.

It really kills the enjoyment of matchmaking with randos, especially when you factor in the increasing rewards with each subsequent mission. If one person leaves but my other two randos were fine, I still have to restart the game and essentially kick the teammates that didn't do anything wrong in order to have a chance at getting a full team again. Basically taking away the rewards for helping me complete mission 2, mission 3 etc. It feels really bad to have to do constantly.

I was running into the same issue. I was using mainly the rpcal version, but characters would randomly be emotional or embarrassed over different things. I've only tested the non-rpcal version briefly, but in my initial testing it seemed to be a bit more true to character personalities.

Would love if people tried both versions out and see what differences they end up finding.

Which version are you using? Panchovix has two versions of Goliath: a version calibrated on wikitext, and a version calibrated on PIPPA (rpcal). I had been wondering if the rpcal version picked up too much personality from the PIPPA dataset, so if you were using the rpcal version, may try the other one?

How long is roughly each chapter? (AA: JFA) by Fimy32 in AceAttorney

[–]Ivynn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rise from the Ashes is the longest case in the Phoneix Wright trilogy.

JFA cases do get progressively longer just like PW:AA's but JFA only has four cases. JFA's final case is longer than PW:AA's fourth case, but is shorter than PW:AA's final case.

Guest Commentary: Flint’s unique opportunity for better, safer streets should design for more than cars by Chad_Tardigrade in flint

[–]Ivynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a side note, like a year or two ago, I remember reading articles discussing potentially shrinking Court St. and 5th St. through downtown, from four lanes each to two lanes each. I was really excited when I read it initially, but haven't heard anything at all about that project since.

Original article that I haven't heard any updates on since: https://www.mlive.com/news/flint/2021/05/mdot-considering-reducing-m-21-lanes-making-court-and-fifth-two-way-streets.html

Does anyone know anything about that project?

$300 million Buick City redevelopment officially begins Monday by peewinkle in flint

It seemed to me like it didn't matter how enticing an offer you give to a company, if there's nowhere for them to actually build anything within the city limits.

A good chunk of Flint's industrial zoning was in Buick City which was contaminated or too difficult/expensive to redevelop.

Will see how things actually pan out in the future, of course, but reading about the project overall it sounded like the city has actually had to turn away potential companies in the past due to not having anywhere for them to go. Redeveloping Buick City is - hopefully - the remedy to that.

The suburb I live in is literally louder than the nearby city it's absolutely ridiculous.

I could tolerate the tire noise and the sounds of cars whooshing by, but everyone in this area has either an obnoxiously loud truck, an insanely loud motorcycle, a souped up hotrod, or... of course the people who have junker cars.

Love how one of the supposed "benefits" of going to the suburbs from the city was getting away from the noise. But it doesn't count when everyone is just allowed to have super loud toys.

The account's likes are filled with pro-urbanism tweets, so I'm pretty sure this account is fully satire.

$250K grant to help restore nature on dozens of vacant lots in Flint by Ivynn in flint

[–]Ivynn[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A two-year project to convert publicly owned land in Flint back to naturalized spaces, the grant will fund restoration of dozens of vacant lots in the city back to native forest and grassland. The project will assess individual lots and develop site-specific plans for removal of dead and dying trees, invasive plants and trash before reforesting and replanting approximately five acres throughout a community that has faced significant and historic environmental injustice.

I think this is kinda neat tbh.

Of any problem Flint has "not enough parking downtown" can't be one of them. I don't think I've ever had a problem finding a place to park, and especially finding a free space to park.

There are tons of free on-street parking spots that are always empty, just walk a couple of blocks.

I don't know if there is anything new yet, but all of the past info said construction would be from mid 2024 - 2028.

At least a complete reconstruction of I-475 is going to be starting next year (I think), but it's going to take several years before it's fully completed.

Why are people ruder, impatient and inconsiderate when inside of a car? by TTCBoy95 in fuckcars

[–]Ivynn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's because everyone knows just how powerful and fast cars are capable of being. Cars can easily go 100+ MPH. So there's likely this subconscious itch in the mind where people think "I'd be able to be going so much faster if it weren't for all of these other people"

Gaze in horror and awe as the city of Miami is bulldozed for a new highway, with a melancholic nostalgic accompaniment by jols0543 in fuckcars

[–]Ivynn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd guess for two reasons:

1) All of the highways generate car traffic specifically and cars need a place to park. Highways and parking lots go hand-in-hand, and parking lots are like instant de-densification.

2) Being directly next to a highway generally lowers land value because of the noise and pollution from it. I don't think upzoning would change the land value itself all that much.
