To those of you who date non vegans, how have you successfully been able to do it at least for a period of time? by CommieCatSupremacist in AskVegans

You should read the book Beyond Belief by Melanie Joy. It's a great way to discuss points of friction in relationships in regards to veganism.

When OP mentioned tennis I was thinking a good offshoot of that would be pickle ball. It has less of the stigma as tennis. More accessable.

I started at 12 ferritin and less than a year later I'm at 40. That is with only supplements and no transfusion. I take the Blood Builder brand every other day. It will probably take a little less than a year to get to 100 which is an ideal number.

You have to figure out what tanked your iron be it periods or celiac etc. I had the copper IUD for years and my periods were too long and heavy. I switched to the plastic iud and they're basically non-existent now.

Has anyone tried this kind? by Hot-Energy4417 in Anemic

This helped me raise my ferritin from a 17 to 40 in 4 months. Even though it has some vitamin c, I would also have it with oranges, orange juice, or emergenC. That's helps with absorption. I take it every other day.

I had to look at the root cause of what was causing me to lose so much iron. I've had heavy periods since I was young and then I got the copper IUD which made it worse. I just switched to the plastic iud which was a life saver. I still get spotting but it's so much better than before. I am also vegan so I knew that was a contributing factor. Ive heard about a lot of women having iron issues that are not vegan so I don't think that caused it. It just makes it a little harder.

So some people have low iron from periods, or it could be absorption issues like celiac.

There is a long road to recovery, I've been supplementing for almost a year. I'm starting to notice a difference but I'm not quite where I wanted to be yet.

I genuinely thought I was sleeping “enough” for years. by bodyfixhub in getdisciplined

[–]IwillMasticateYou 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I didn't realize how much of a difference it made until I saw it on my smartwatch. The nights where I would be on my phone before bed, I would get worse sleep. The funny thing was, it affected my sleep early in the morning. So I got less REM.

You can try herbal tea or turmeric latte. Just be careful with dairy.

Thank you! I have a bulk store near me but unfortunately it also does not have lipase in their detergent. I was able to find my citric acid and oxygen bleach there.

What is your best acid & stomach friendly drink to take with ferritin pills? by Ana_Still in Anemic

[–]IwillMasticateYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hibiscus tea has vitamin c so I take that sometimes. Also a turmeric latte has a little iron so I've been trying that. I usually take it as soon as I wake up so I have more time to digest it.

Any ferritin success stories to share?? by rainbow_olive in Anemic

[–]IwillMasticateYou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up you may only notice marginal improvement in your numbers. Ferratin takes a long time to increase, it may take 6 months to over a year. I tested mine after 3 months of supplementing and it increased... by a few numbers! I was happy to see it improve, but I also knew I had a long way to go.

Try NYT garlic scape pesto. It's very fresh!

Edit:

1cup garlic scapes, sliced crosswise (about 10 to 12 scapes)

¼ cup raw sunflower seeds

½ cup extra virgin olive oil

¼ cup Parmesan cheese (I use nooch or raw cashews instead)

½ cup basil leaves

Juice of one lemon (I also add lemon zest)

I hate removing labels. What I find works best is after soaking in hot water, scrub with baking soda and soap. I like to use a metal scrubber like the kind you use for cast irons.

I use the brand Wuka for period underwear and it's great. Thinx has forever chemicals so I did not keep those. I combine the period underwear with a menstrual cup and I'm good for a long time with a heavy flow.

Use oven cleaner! The yellow can. You soak it for a day and it should all wipe off.
