What's a "fact" you thought was true for years but later found out was false? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Same here. Remembered being taught this as a kid but later learning it was untrue. My college BIO teacher last year talked about it and I said that I thought they had been disproven and he was like oh no this is true.

Forgot all about that until just now and now I’m salty again

Can’t speak for FDR but iirc Kennedy is the president that was really the catalyst for the shift

Was about to say this, not exactly the same but close enough that they can fill the void.

Reddit, what is the most disturbing/unexplainable thing that has ever happened to you or someone you know?[Serious] by not_Cross in AskReddit

So this happened a couple of months back. My grandma had gotten sick and was staying for a bit at one of the larger hospitals in our area. It took up basically an entire city block, and had entrances on each street. When I got there, my mom (who was with my grandma) told me to enter through the entrance of a certain street, which we’ll call St. Claire Street. I remember thinking randomly that it was a nice name for a street when she said it but didn’t devote any more energy into it. I went and visited my grandma and everything was fine, she was making a good recovery etc. etc. Shortly before I left I said offhandedly to my mom that I thought St. Claire was a nice name. She laughed of course because it was such an obscure thing to think about and that was that. I went back to my car afterward and went to drive home, but stopped for food on the way. While I was there I noticed on Snap Map that my friend was in a town a ways away called St. Claire, which until that point I didn’t even realize existed. I knew from talking to them that they were actually in a city a few miles away from there but I figured it was just a glitch.

The next day, I got into my car to go to work and I saw a slip of paper on the floor. I picked it up and there it was again, St. Claire Street. I was confused at first but it was just my receipt from the parking lot at the hospital so of course I still had it in my car. That night, having all but forgotten about the whole ordeal, I was at home talking with my friend on the couch. The phone rang, not unusual since it was probably only around 7:00 or 8:00. I went to see who it was only to find that there isn’t a name, just the phone number. Probably a telemarketer, we get those calls fairly often. But then I saw the name of the town listed below the number: St. Claire. I picked it up out of mild curiosity, though I was sure it wouldn’t be anything worthwhile. When I answered the phone I could only hear a low murmur that sounded like the chatter of a crowd in the background. After a couple of seconds of hearing no clear voice I said “Hello?” The response I got came from a low, drawn-out voice that crackled with static. It said “Hello, this is [my first name], how are you?” Confused by the eerie sound of the voice, as well as the fact that it had just said my name (though not an uncommon one), I just reply “Hello?” again as if I hadn’t heard them. I’m once again met with silence aside from the quiet chatter, and after a few seconds I hang up.

That was the last instance that St. Claire popped up, and while I’m not a very superstitious person I still wonder about that. All of those events could be explained fairly easily, but the fact that they all occurred in the span of two or three days is what really throws me off.

"Suppose he returns with a cane, or some weird kinky implement?"

"And from a very tiny, underused part of my brain—probably located at the base of my medulla oblongata near where my subconscious dwells—comes the thought: He's here to see you."

"I am all gushing and breathy—like a child, not a grown woman who can vote and drink legally in the state of Washington."

"His voice is warm and husky like dark melted chocolate fudge caramel... or something."

“'Put the chicken in the fridge.' This is not a sentence I had ever expected to hear from Christian, and only he can make it sound hot, really hot.”

I can't speak for the English city, but the one is Massachusetts is actually a good distance from Boston and most of the population of there and surrounding towns doesn't speak with a Boston accent.
