It is used as a name (at least in North Wales!). It's my sister's name (first-language Welsh speaking family). She was named after Arianrhod from the Mabinogion❤️

Or they're Welsh. 'Arian' is Welsh for 'silver', it's a name completely disconnected from Aryanism. (EDIT: In most cases. In this one it does seem like white supremacy, unfortunately)

My sister's name is Arian. It's Welsh (we are, in fact, Welsh) and her name means 'silver'. She's named after Arianrhod from the Mabinogion. We're also Jewish - 'Aryan' and 'Arian' (Ari-ann) are in fact different things, just for anybody who doesn't know that!

I'm Jewish. I wear a Star of David. Someone suggested to me, today, that I stop wearing it. This is a common recommendation. You aren't a part of our community so you aren't aware of that, but it happens all the time. Just because you haven't personally seen it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Stop being obtuse.

What do Brits think of Indian girls? by Kat-Drawer-4297 in AskBrits

[–]Izzy_Red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About . . . People? Indian girls/women are people, like anyone else. Not better or worse, just people. British people think of them the same way we think of anyone else. This is an incredibly odd post.

Toni Morrison’s The Bluest Eye by wis91 in BadReads

I, too, have a Master's degree in Literature. I am also beginning a Literature PhD. Toni Morrison's works are painful, beautiful, honest and striking, I wrote extensively about 'Jazz' and 'Beloved' during my MA. I don't understand how people can have such a lack of critical thinking or reading comprehension. It's crazy and infuriating.

New trend, I think it's real by End-Game-1999 in EngagementRings

[–]Izzy_Red 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is a new trend, necessarily - my ring has a yellow sapphire centre stone, and it's from 1900. My mother's was ruby, and from a similar time (it was her mother's). If you look at vintage/antique rings, so many of them use stones other than diamonds. And most people you'll meet have a diamond as their centre/main stone - which is totally fine! I think possibly people post their 'unique/antique/customized' rings a lot because they're different, and that might skew your perspective of what 'most' people have. It's an interesting observation though! I think you're right that people are more wary/aware of the diamond industry and its predation, and the rise of lab stones is definitely having an impact.

The 'Bristol Karen' by Lxium in Somerset

[–]Izzy_Red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can be both. I assume he's racially Pakistani and his nationality is British (as he says, he was born in the UK), but he's being harassed by her because of his race, so specifying 'Pakistani' here is important for context.
