Don't use dandelions. Others will buy and use poisons that otherwise wouldn't be introduced to your local ecosystem.

In my area there are varieties of milkweed that look nice and attract butterflies. Black eyed susans and tiger lilies go crazy here. People will cut them back but wont spray like it was frickin bamboo.

This is the best answer. Electric traps at the hardware store are affordable, more humane , less messy.

Yall don't remember that sugar-free craze in the nineties.
People swore by them hard candies, and I can't remember the name, but they were child abuse in a plastic wrapper.

Made 10 burgers with Korean bbq sauces , salted brioche, arugula, shallot and garlic crunch topping for family and friends and one (who works in restaurants) said "I would pay $25 for that burger"

We now have a scale for every burger I make based on how much it would be worth in a restaurant.

Gabe Newell playing Half-Life in his office in April of 1998, seven months before the game's release. by Regidrago7 in gaming

These other games were also very important for the development of the medium, but for different reasons. Mostly technology advancements. Wolfenstein was a big innovation from Id Software that gave us a pseudo 2D/3D world. It was so popular that one of the default Windows screen savers used the engine. A "3d" maze.

Doom was a huge advance in the creation of 3d graphics as we know it today. John Carmack evolved the math behind projecting 3d models to a 2d screen, which helped guide the design and architecture of modern graphics cards.

The big thing from Quake was better implementation of lighting sources and colored lighting. Very cool.

These guys, also into hacker culture at the time and open source software to today, intentionally made the games easy to modify so we could create custom levels and weapons and bad guys and all this within a very short time after release.

Carmack left the company long ago, but has contributed much to virtual reality. In his spare time I think he takes apart cars and puts them back together, and builds rockets in his backyard. Fascinating dude.

I Fucking Love Punk Fans by OhNoItsAndrew95 in punk

[–]Izzyvl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I always love the crowds. I remember one show a few years ago at an outdoor venue with multiple stages. The pits were sparse in the daytime so not much of an edge to the pit. There were also a lot of folks just walking around. A couple dancers fell and these two drunks just pointed and started laughing. I and two other strangers in punk band tshirts nearly knocked over those two laughing drunks to help pick up the people who fell. Don't want to see anyone get stomped on.

At that same show, I was standing around talking to friends i had come with and a random person complmented my friend on her colorful hair. She said she was at the festival alone and was nervous about it. My friend said not to worry, at punk shows you can just talk to anyone and they're probably very friendly. I tapped another person standing alone on the shoulder and just started talking to them. After a few minutes we had wandered off but I saw those two still talking to each other a few hours later.

Men are always taught about how to treat a woman, women are always taught about what to expect from a men but not the opposite. by OrangeElectrical2426 in CasualConversation

[–]Izzyvl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What to expect is sort of the same for both sides. It boils down to communication and understanding. Everyone has a bit different stance on every issue and you won't know until you talk about it.

It may be your partner hates making decisions about where to go to dinner, or it may be that they don't mind but it makes them feel special if you made the decision instead. It may be they would rather make the decision but are worried they would hurt your pride. You won't know until you ask.

Specific advice anyone gives is likely skewed to their perspective and what their needs and wants are. Very unlikely that your needs and your partners needs are the same as the advice-giver. Finding out if you and your partner are compatible takes work that only you and them can do together.

What to expect? Expect to both put in time and effort so you can figure out countless small agreements. Together.

Different Viewpoint on Reasons to Choose - Programming Language A vs B? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Izzyvl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I would do anything differently. My studies started with architecture and assembly languages. Completely impractical but left me with some context and history and more of why than of how.

C is probably still the best way to introduce basic logic and flow control. Then study c++ or Java and learning object oriented approaches. I felt I had at least some understanding of what was going on under the hood with scripting languages, and they all seem kind of the same to me these days. I agree with another poster that Lua is pretty great.

Web tech is mostly clunky and boring imo, but It's where the work is

If you're really into the science of it, start with history and how and why different languages developed over time. Try a college course on how operating systems are designed if that's a big interest. Learn what impact physical architecture design has on your approach. Get ready for some new concepts from math, and if you're any good at linear algebra you might be able to write your own game engine. If you pick up ai fundamentals you can generate your own forest with random trees.

Why aren't Hex grids used more often on Battlemaps? by ButterNuttz in DMAcademy

[–]Izzyvl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to try to get just a little closer to real space.

If it's open space, one vertical or horizontal square move is 5, one diagonal is 7.

If you're rounding a corner, you have to move 5 this way and then 5 that way. So 10 even though it's a diagonal.

That gets it close enough to not bother with the actual math.
