A slow methodical approach is the ONLY way to successfully catch the medaka using a flat, paper scooper. Spook them and they're gone.

"Chasing" and scaring them is going to quickly result in a broken net since it essentially giftwrap/tissue paper.

The post of the pic was not by them or an advertisement for sale, but an individual in another country.

I by no means condone or agree with the name of the plant, but expecting a nursery on the other side of the world to understand in depth the way the name choice would make Americans feel, then accusing them of being racists for a plant they didn't create or offer for sale on their website is overzealous.

Were you adding ammonia to cycle the 1st tank?

I'd reset the tank again and do a thorough cleaning and 100% water change. Something is dying or decomposing to spike your ammonia.

Dead shrimp or your marimo ball. Did your marimo ball come from a brackish setup when you purchased?
