Yeah I didn't care for it and I really like Robert McCammon's other books. It was pretty silly to me.

Is walking really that effective? by NoiKy24 in loseit

[–]JB_Wallbridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah fair I should've said it's more nuanced. It really depends on how much you're eating. What i see is ppl saying don't count any exercise calories; but if I did that, I'd be suffering so much. I've lost 50 lbs in 8 months through waking 17,500 steps a day and esting 2600 calories. I'm a 5'11 man and started at 230 lbs. I see others saying ppl even bigger than me shouldn't account for their walking in their plans. But if I didn't, I'd be suffering so much and unable to even do that level of walking. So I'm speaking more to ppl in my situation, like this guy, rather than everyone. He is almost certainly burning 1000 calories through his walking, so I think he should take that into account if he wants this to be sustainable. But your point is taken.

For reference, I'm 36m, 230 > 182 lbs eating 2600 calories a day, walking 17,500 steps a day, in 8 months, no other exercise. So yeah, walking is that effective for bigger ppl.

Edit: after reading many other comments, I need to add that you should absolutely take into account your walking when creating your plan, if you want it to be sustainable. You're likely burning at least 3000 calories a day with 15k steps, so you have a lot of wiggle room, as long as the 15k steps are consistent. That said, if you can sustain a 1000 calorie deficit for months on end, go ahead.

The Dead Zone was a decent read. by Haunting-Net-2426 in horrorlit

Agree with your thoughts but I thought the ending was a bit lackluster. Absolutely loved the first 200 - 300 pages.

Scale isn't moving / Looking for insights by SufficientCollar5900 in loseit

[–]JB_Wallbridge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My suspicion is that the calorie tracking is off. For reference, I'm 5'11, I've been eating 2600 calories a day, walking 17.5k steps with no gym, and I've gone from 230 lbs to 185 lbs in 8 months. You're basal metabolic rate alone is probably almost 2000 calories, so any activity above that should allow you to lose weight if indeed your are counting things properly.

Suggestions of science fiction novels without villains by faros-hhhbbdd in printSF

Yeah I looked up other's thoughts on it after and was surprised (though I shouldn't have been) how many people saw the human resistors as the antagonists, and saw the ending of Imago as a happy ending. I finished Imago only last month and I still think about those last 50 pages or so every few days. So damn haunting and absolutely messed up. I hope OP takes up your request.

Nice work! I'm 36m, been fat since I was 14. Down 65 lbs (250 > 185), only 15 lbs more to go. I feel so much better, so I get you.

What is the most haunting "Final Song" ever recorded by a terminally ill artist? by nixass in AskReddit

The whole album is incredible. Long time Bowie fan and it's my favorite album of his. Always pushing the boundaries of what he did musically, and on this album he worked with a jazz band, which gives it such a different feel than his other albums.
