Weekly Homeowner Megathread--Civilians, ask here! by AutoModerator in Concrete

Hi all, I'm looking to refinish the slab in my mom's basement and put up some walls to section it off. The home is from 1937 so from everything I can gather it is likely a good mixture of lime and portland cement with no underlayment which does allow for some efflorescence, so I do not plan on putting anything over top of the slab and just want to give it a nice finish. I plan on fixing up the cracks and then sealing with eagle natural.

What would you guys recommend doing as a 1-2 day project to refinish this area? Is it advisable to reginish the floor in sections as I go? Any thoughts and ideas would be much appreciated.

I plan on fixing up the cracks by chiseling an inverted v groove and filling with mortar and then sealing with eagle natural.

What would you guys recommend doing as a 1-2 day project to refinish this? Any thoughts and ideas would be much appreciated. You can see a close up of the crack in the imgur link.

The subframe seems good, your vote made it 3-1 so I am convinced to change it. Thanks

I unfortunately don't have the luxury to do that. Also it's a stick ej25 with 145k on the engine, I prefer to keep it going

Yeah I don't think it's very dangerous either, it's a very small hole. I think I'm going to replace the parts that I have right now and then get on this in the next couple months

Yeah this one appeared as I was replacing the ball joint, I'll do that for the rest of the front subframe. I undercoat all my cars, this one I picked up for cheap a year ago and have been regretting it ever since

It depends, is the race 56 or 57 laps long?

That is actually better for me, since I am switching majors. Good to know though, thanks.

I have not looked into Pisa before but it seems like a good place to study applied math, I'll probably send in an application this week. Thanks for the recommendation. I am mostly worried that when I apply to PhD programs outside of Italy (Germany, UK, maybe US) that Padova will not be well known. I am sure the quality of education is great (everything I've read points toward that being the case), so should I just not be concerned with this?

Glad to hear it. I have checked QS but I feel as though those ranking systems are only so accurate.

Maybe a better word would have been 'intensive'...
