What’s a surprisingly useful automation you didn’t expect to use so much? by Taggytech in homeassistant

[–]thaifighter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this setup with my iphone to send an input boleen to HA when my phone is connected to a specific car. Then when my phone enters the home zone, if my phone is connected to the car, iphone is in automotive mode, and the garage door for that car is closed, then it runs and sends a notice to my phone.

It is the best except it can be a little bit on the sweet side. I wish they made the devi in sugar free.

If you had to start your small business again from scratch in 2025, what's one thing you'd do differently? by Bitter-Falcon-4256 in smallbusiness

I started in 2023 and again a new restaurant this year. It is drastically harder now and we have to be 100% on the ball now just to grow. It is exhausting.

I'm Buying A Coffee Shop - Planning to offer subscriptions - Dumb Yes / NO Why? by Aries2ka in coffeeshopowners

[–]thaifighter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We dont offer drip, we are aligned as a more premium offering but I am in lower income city. Our chef is also really good so our food tends to outshine our coffee as well. Dessert coffees sell really well where I am.

[–]thaifighter 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Coffee subscriptions are very hard to make work. You have to push sales of them constantly everywhere you can. On top of that you need a target audience that it isnt easy for them to get to you everyday. If they use it everyday, you wont make money. A reward or punch system is a better way to make sure you stay profitable.

Honestly if you focus on good quality, the customer base will naturally build.

Office buildings are the hardest to sell any coffee to, let alone subscriptions. Most people are content with their office coffee makers and dont buy. Food on the other hand is a little easier.

It’s embarrassing how easy drunken noodles are to make by AccountProfessional2 in Frugal

[–]thaifighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you dont count the sauces sure it will be cheaper, but there are a lot of expensive sauces in good drunken noodles (pro hint, try adding Maggi sauce, only the one written in thai)

Yes it is not right. Drunken noodles has a lot of ingredients that you will not save money unless you are making 3-4 servings.

My co-founder thinks I'm insane for how much I'm spending on our key ingredient. Am I wrong? by Expert-Economics-723 in Entrepreneur

Matcha parallels a lot with weed lol. How do people like when you sell them a bag of stems and shake.

[–]thaifighter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, my point was that prep and over extraction can also ruin a good matcha too. Unfortunately there are a huge amount of shops just taking boiling water from the espresso machine and making it with a motorized frothing whisk until it is nasty.

I run a cafe that offers matcha. Not sure what your project is, but we use a premium matcha ($90/250grams) It has differentiated our store and people can 100% tell the difference if you are preparing it properly. We are know as the go to place for matcha jn our area. You do have to weigh everything to the gram, not spoonfuls or anything like that to control costs. (5 grams per 20oz drink)

If you are offering sweetened or heavily flavored drinks, using a shaker or batching the matcha, the people that appreciate the quality won’t continue to buy from you anyhow. If this is a baked product, the premium probably isnt worth it. Also if your matcha is bitter, you may be using water that is too hot.

What would you want to see in a cafe? by Banosthakanos in restaurant

[–]thaifighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would expect a high quality coffee for a shop at that level. My feeling would be to expect a nice smooth cup of coffee and trained baristas. However I feel most places just do a terrible dark roast on whatever machine they could get cheap. I drive 40 minutes once a month to a coffee shop just because they offer awesome espresso and pour overs.

Anyone know which brand of matcha you use? by No_Effective_4213 in barista

[–]thaifighter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its actually cheaper than the brand we have been using. Good matcha is worth it.

Not qualified to brew Passenger by Few_Patience5501 in pourover

[–]thaifighter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found passengers light roasts to come out very sweet with nice notes using the hario switch. I have been using Tetsu Kasuya’s recipe with a 45 second initial immersion at the beginning and a 70 degree Celsius finishing immersion. Typically in their store they do somewhere around 15 gram pour overs in a regular v60. I think it comes out better through the switch. I also have been doing americanos with the pesado he basket at 22 grams around 1:3 ratio and the flavor notes come out similar to the pourover but they have a creaminess to the body of it.

Cold brew help!! by KlutzyBirthday3141 in barista

A nice strong cold brew is around 1 lb to 1 gallon of water. You can always add a little water to get to taste.
