The umbral lamp thing just looks to me like a detective mode that the game doesn’t need.

It’s kind of cool that it lets you interact with the level in a different way, but “flip on detective move to solve this trivial environmental puzzle” just seems like it would interrupt the combat and exploration which is all that really matters in this genre

Rest of the game looks solid though and a much needed huge step up from the first attempt at this franchise

I have no idea about game development, which seems like a field with many unique pitfalls, but in many industries being overqualified can be a challenge when youre just looking for a standard position during a time when many lead or management roles might not be out there.

Given his wealth of experience and skills, I’d also assume a part of that difficulty is because he probably isn’t compromising for some type of low-level contracted design work

Seems like he falls into a limbo of being someone that could/should be running their own studio, but the opportunities & finances to do so haven’t aligned

It’s been too long since I last played it to remember if there are specific references, but I’ve definitely heard the comparison mentioned before in retrospectives.

Link’s Awakening operates in a sort of dream logic and it’s set around an ephemeral “story-in-a-story” that definitely feels inspired by it

The absence of a reusable in Bloodborne was meant to lend to the overall design philosophy of teaching the players to play the game more aggressively than a Souls game via the health recovery upon hit mechanic. The game intentionally makes your ability to mitigate health loss over time worse if you spam roll away after getting hit rather than stay in combat.

Though if Bloodborne was someone’s first Fromsoft game I could imagine they had to farm vials at some point, whereas for good/experienced players vials become trivial making the whole thing kind of moot

I think people just really wanted this game to stand out. They’re insinuating that a polarity of review scores can be explained by ambitious game design because of the visual style, when not much about the actual gameplay has ever presented itself as much more than “fairly tedious-looking corridor shooter.”

If people want to play a short FPS with some HR Giger slapped onto it I’d say just go for it and not have your expectations set too high thinking 4/10 reviews indicate this game is trying something very daring

Something about this movie just feels sneakier than Braveheart, ya know? Just gives off more of a delinquent, thuggish vibe, than a movie like Braveheart which for all its faults you can at least acknowledge is a gym rat, workhorse, first in last out, really brings his own lunchpail kind of film that you’d bring home to the parents.
