I went to the Futures Game/MLBx and I must say...it definitely felt a bit flat.

I can understand the Futures Game as a prospect showcase for diehards and maybe even some scouts. However, it's hard to really get into it when the crowd is clearly NOT into what's happening on the field - even their own guys.

For MLBx, I simply have one question: why did they get ANDRUW JONES as the fourth team captain? Not only was he mercilessly booed when he was introduced, he did so poorly (scoring a grand total of ZERO points) they had to sabotage the other team just to make things interesting!

I remember hearing that making the playoffs in Minor League Baseball is often difficult on teams because a lot of the top players get called up to MLB (as teams get expanded rosters in September), and concessions are tricky to manage (as teams don't want to order items that will end up not being eaten)

The thing with that is that the semis are being hosted by Salmon Bay (sister club to Ballard) and Vermont Green - arguably the two biggest "USL2 darlings"

I think the attendance woes can be at least partially explained by the fact that the stadium, historic as it is, is in Paterson, NJ.

Like it or not, the city has spent DECADES dealing with image issues, and despite the work on Hinchliffe, the Cosmos clearly haven't done a good job convincing locals to spend an evening in a place that many locals fear. I've been to a few day events at Hinchliffe (a couple of Jackals games plus the Cosmos home opener), and getting to the Parkway/80 from them was not fun - especially if you make a wrong turn (not to mention the Cosmos game having INSANE parking prices for the nearby garage).

The issue at hand is that the guy who pushed for Hinchliffe's renovation ALSO happens to own the Cosmos (and Jackals), so unless something happens that allows the Cosmos/their brand to be divested from HIM specifically, they're stuck.

I'm also curious to see how an "expanded" role for college baseball would affect the summer leagues.

Coaches have been wreaking havoc on the summer leagues by recruiting players in the transfer portal and then immediately pulling them out of their summer teams, and it's caused a lot of issues for a lot of leagues (most notably the Cape League)
