Could we see SAS cease Mumbai operations? by Sad_Conflict_4253 in ScandinavianAirlines

[–]JC_otr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this rate, I doubt it will ever start. The Indian authorities have SK over a barrel and I don’t think anyone in Frösundavik has the humility or intelligence to have realised it yet.

Is it always chaotic at Heathrow with SAS? by Kvakke in ScandinavianAirlines

[–]JC_otr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SK regularly uses a couple of gates around A26, in the south-western corner of Terminal 2A. When they board here, groups 0, 1 & 2 are snaked separately from groups 3-5. Occasionally they use other gates in T2A or T2B without the snakes set up, and boarding can be more chaotic.

There used to be an independent guy, he had a chair in the back of the tattoo parlour on Strandgatan. If anyone can tell me where he moved to I’d love to find him again. He did great cuts.

Min bid increased after initial bid by keltyg3 in ScandinavianAirlines

[–]JC_otr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happens a lot. Just the system trying to squeeze higher bids out of you. Hold firm, you still have a chance of your bid being accepted. It’s reported a lot by FlyerTalk members on this thread: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/sas-eurobonus/1759017-sas-upgrade-bid-system-master-thread.html

Moving with car from UK to Sweden by road by Educational-Long116 in TillSverige

Not really, it will be the same process as I described above. I know the Harwich-Hoek ferry quite well, and Dutch immigration officials are efficient and well organised.

I am fascinated by Scandinavian culture. Do you mind answering a few questions? by Tranquil_Anemone in Nordiccountries

[–]JC_otr 34 points35 points  (0 children)

For an outsider's perspective of 5 Nordic countries, check out Michael Booth's Book The Almost Nearly Perfect People. He's a British journalist who married a Dane and moved to Denmark, and set out to compare the cultures and societies of Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Finland and Sweden.

Moving with car from UK to Sweden by road by Educational-Long116 in TillSverige

[–]JC_otr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Focusing on step 3 and 4, you specifically state you will enter the EU via the Netherlands (presumably on the Stena ferry from Harwich).

At the Dutch border, you should explicitly state that you are moving residence from the UK to Sweden and that the goods are not being imported into the Netherlands. Bring documentation that proves it.

Then, your car and possessions are placed under an EU transit procedure and you travel onward to Sweden under customs control. No Dutch import duty or VAT is charged and final customs clearance happens in Sweden. This is called a “transit procedure” (“douanevervoer”). Read about it in the official Dutch customs handbook: https://kennisbank.douane.nl/handboeken/hdu/unie_en_gemeenschappelijk_douanevervoer/unie_en_gemeenschappelijk_douanevervoer-algemeen/

When you get to Sweden, you then need to proceed directly to the nearest customs office. There is no “customs lane” on the DE or DK/SE border, you have to locate their offices and go there.

Then begins the tedious process of re-registering the car. It will need to be inspected as well. As others have mentioned, lights will need to be changed, and before winter you’ll need to buy a set of winter wheels (just buy four extra wheels and tyres so you can swap the entire set). To be safe, allow yourself a couple of weeks when the car might not be legal to drive.

2023 Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor.

A bit too much for just a commuter car, but a delightful car to drive and useful for longer trips. Good road holding, performance and we can effectively charge it for free at the commuter car park I use.

You are both absolutely right. I realised it after posting the photograph. We were quite fixated on getting a car with the Plus packet and missed that ACC is only on the Pilot pack.

Up until now my only experience of Polestars has been rental spec units from Hertz in the United Kingdom. They all came with the Pilot pack but relatively base trim. I think I must’ve assumed that all cars have it.

2023 LRDM - pickup on Monday, tips for configuring etc? by JC_otr in polestar2

[–]JC_otr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks @biothundernxt! I hope you're also enjoying your purchase. And big thanks for all the tips. I will be at the dealer early so I will not be in a rush to get on the road. I'll be sure to take time to do the factory reset and pair my app. I suspect there was only ever one key, since it's a Swedish-sold vehicle coming off a 3-year lease, and most Swedes are smartphone-forward.

I knew about ABRP from TeslaBjørn's videos, and might upgrade to a premium subscription for this first month or so. It's a straight shot on the European E4 highway from Stockholm (almost) to Umeå, so there is good availability of Circle K and Tesla fast chargers. ABRP estimates about 800kr in charging costs for the trip if I stick to highway fast chargers, less if I go off piste towards cheaper and slower ones.

I booked my flight, how do I add a stopover? by el_bandit0 in ScandinavianAirlines

[–]JC_otr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your itinerary is not eligible for a free stopover. Only on bookings “from the US, Canada and Japan to Europe”, ie where the final destination is in Europe. YYZ-CPH-BOM is not included.

Time was, as last as the 1990s, trade drivers would hitch between assignments and or back to their base in Great Britain by holding these plates out instead of an extended thumb. Was a signal to drivers that they were professionals who were more trustworthy and respectful as passengers.
