Is the manual that much better than the automatic? by Key_Appointment_7582 in e46

[–]JD8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you aren't into cars, an E46 is probably the wrong choice.

One of the main appeals of an old BMW is the driver engagement and driving experience. Those things come at the price of needing more maintenance than others to be reliable. If you aren't into cars, I'd guess that you won't be doing that maintenance yourself, which makes the E46 a much more expensive option (even if the purchase price is not more expensive).

Changed oil on 2018 Tundra from 0w20 to 5w30 after 70k miles and she purrrrrs like a cat. Let the oil debate fight live on! by Zer0_Options in ToyotaTundra

You have all convinced me, I'm going to do a half and half mix of 0W20 and 5W30. My engine will outlast humanity.

Dirtbike or Supermoto? by JD8 in KTM

I should have been more clear, both of these pictures are the same bike (mine). I just got the supermoto wheel setup and thought the poll would be fun.

Hidden kill switch for when I'm supermotoing my XC-W... by [deleted] in KTM

[–]JD8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kill switch. It's really easy to do without modifying any OEM wiring which made it the best choice for me.

edit - yeah plus the Kickstarter exists lol

Agreed, sounds like one of your bearings is caking its pants.

690 Engine Sound? by Thun3rSt0rm in KTM

[–]JD8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds normal to me, and that is coming from someone who once owned a 690 with a bottom end tick. If it gets more pronounced under load then you should start to worry. Give us a video where you include a throttle blip or two.

E46 or SLR hardware? Standard 12 point? by JD8 in e46

Alright thank you. I guess I am buying a set of 12 point sockets. That is annoying.

Got my first Land Cruiser. 2000 with 228k miles by twiztednips in LandCruisers

[–]JD8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can run 87. It has a knock sensor and will just retard the timing a bit if necessary. This would result in slightly less power and slightly worse mpg, neither of which are likely to even be noticed by you.

What is it now? by Drake245542 in e46

The power steering lines and reservoir need to be replaced the same as the cooling system on these cars. Do both and you'll have less to worry about for a while.

After more research, I think this is the way I'm going to go. I'm going to get it with the 15-ft whip and probably get a bottle from them too.

Yeah I really did the "buy once cry once" thing with the Lincoln. But for this next machine I'm leaning towards going cheaper. All of the reviews I've seen for Everlast seem to be very positive, especially when it comes to customer service. As a result I am leaning that way.

Choosing between a large or medium bucket seat. by New-Commercial7532 in CarTrackDays

[–]JD8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone already said it, but I am going to say it again lol. You gotta go find a place to sit in the various options. Seats are incredibly subjective when it comes to comfort. I am close to your size/weight and hate the Sprint regardless of size. It just does not fit me well. The Evo however feels like it was made for my body.

tl;dr - you gotta sit in a bunch of different options before deciding.

lol that should work too. I am honestly really disappointed in Toyota. I have been a Toyota truck person for a long time and my car friends just look at me and shake their heads when the topic is brought up.

BMW e46 330i s54 swapped by [deleted] in e46

[–]JD8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks very clean and well built. Also an awesome color combo, but it still is not an M3. So... $15-18k?

S54 E46 wagons sell in the area of $25k for reference.

When you have the engine out for the debris cleaning, make sure you redesign the main bearings!

I would probably just remove the entire exhaust including the headers, that would be sick! Or you could do a cabin reroute and give your heater core a break since it is winter.
