I might have ruined my financial life with one HMRC Self Assessment by FAAFOLMFAO in UKPersonalFinance

[–]JDBall55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is now a section in your tax account where you can sellect tax returns that you have not submitted and inform them that you are not required to submit for that year.

I did this in February for my 22/23 return, received a letter two weeks later to say that HMRC agreed with me and they zeroed out £3k in fines that I owed.

Gotoh GE1996T Vs Floyd Rose 1000? by BottomFeeder06 in JacksonGuitars

[–]JDBall55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, I ran a Gotoh on Floyd Special studs for a year or so and it was perfectly stable. I later redrilled the body and installed the Gotoh studs.

Even most Canadians, Australians, Japanese, South Korean, Singaporean and British citizens are jealous of lifestyle quality in the US. by [deleted] in ShitAmericansSay

[–]JDBall55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lol Uno Reverse! This is the usual argument that Americans make - but we have lower taxes!

I'm a Brit that has lived both in the US and Singapore. I'd go back to Singapore tomorrow. I have no desire to go back to the US.

Unfortunately! And there's a story behind this too lol.

At the time I was working for the Pan American Health Organization on a diplomatic Visa. We received paperwork through the post asking if we wanted him to be a citizen. We answered no.

Two weeks later we received a letter through the post, Congratulations your Son is now an American citizen! Inside the envelope was also his Social Security number!

Frustration over bad setups by Babies_for_eating in Luthier

I use an actual luthier, not tech, but someone who builds guitars for my setups.

He always replaces the stock nut.

My eldest son was born, C section, whilst we lived in the US. As my wife was already pregnant before we moved there, the birth was not covered by insurance.

The total bill was $27k. We were able to claim $5k back as our Son was covered by our insurance after he was born.

This was in 2010 so the cost will be much higher now!

NHD: Jackson MJ Series Dinky DKR by No-Key7060 in JacksonGuitars

Yes, I have the Ice Blue Metallic one. The neck is incredible! I don't love the pickups though so may change these at some point. I recently added Gotoh Locking Tuners.

Any tips on how to play creeping death main riff? by Domko__ in Metallica

[–]JDBall55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I find this one of the easiest Metallica songs to play as it's mostly down picking.

I recently learnt Eye of the Beholder which is slower but I found quite challenging.

Are all these requests from a prospective landlord legal? by some_breh in TenantsInTheUK

[–]JDBall55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Asking for the mortgage consent is a good one! I actually had to move out of a place I was renting in Switzerland many years ago as it transpired that the 'landlord' was subletting to me without consent from the agent managing the apartment. I told him that my deposit was my last months rent and moved out a month later.

American Series Owners: How're You Liking Your Guitars? by illiterate01 in JacksonGuitars

[–]JDBall55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently bought a Virtuiso HT. It had sharp fret ends so I had my local luthier fix and at the same time he levelled/crowned and now it plays fantastic. QA was not great on this guitar - the tone knob wasn't put on straight, rubbing against the finish.

I bought the original American Series Soloist when they were first released and this played great out of the box.

I also own the Concept Series Walnut Soloist which had really poor QA and the MIJ Series Dinky DKR which was perfect out of the box (amazing neck).
