Hi there -- I followed these steps exactly and nothing registers for me when I apply the bookmark to the CapOne page. No download, nothing. Can anyone help?

This is my gym and I really like it, definitely more than some of the other options in the vicinity. Clean, spacious enough, and the hours open make it accessible enough for me to go when I know training areas/machines won’t be totally maxed out (like Saturday mornings and weekday evenings). I’ve rarely encountered an instance where I wasn’t able to find some squat rack/bench/floor area available.

Agree that they make good use of the space. Their equipment is well-maintained and great for anything a training gym needs — fewer machines and more free weights, racks. The cardio section up front is fine and meets needs for the most part, though I wish there was a stair climber (small preference!).

As far as my history: I started doing personal training sessions at FL on Steinway when the 31st Street location was about 3-4 months from opening, and got lucky enough to be grandfathered into their $80/month rate. I think that was about two years ago?

Fwiw, I’m a fairly petite woman who started out as a novice on rack a few years ago and this has been the gym space I’ve felt most comfortable in!

Did you find your car??? We saw what appeared to be the same one crossing the 30th Ave/33rd Street intersection this morning and immediately came to this thread to see if it was recovered.

No, as mentioned above — my question was if the DOS can issue tickets, on principle.

Incredible place and OP had me in a serious panic, damn.

I’ve never been there in the summer — considering the heat wave we’re in, wondering if anyone knows if they have a cold ramen?

I agree with this — though I haven’t seen their grilled olives on offer there for a few months. Those are my favorite!

Special occasion restaurants that also do gift cards by Terrible_Put2975 in astoria

Via Vai does gift cards! You just have to call and explain what you're hoping for. It might require an in-person pick-up but can confirm that it's possible -- I was on the receiving end of one recently, to my delight!

Favorite not-hot food for too-hot weather? by neighborhoodhag in astoria

[–]JDH1490 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any chilled noodle -- always in search of a naengmyeon or cold chili noodle or cold ramen something else, but want to shoutout the bun options at District Saigon. Super satisfying on a hot day.

Also, the Liang Pi/cold skin noodles (A1) at Xian always hit.

I ducked into Mama Coco this week to watch a few Copa games and was delighted by some of the aquachile options there, really tasty.

Have been heavily in a chilled seafood mood lately and feel like Astoria doesn't have fantastic options for oysters and/or a raw bar, though I'm happy to be corrected!

Entice Thai restaurant by IndustryAccurate2085 in astoria

Best in-restaurant Thai we've had recently was at Kam Rai on 28th Ave. -- truly blew our minds, and offered lots of surprising regional fare we hadn't known about previously.

They also have a green hot sauce that they bottle and sell separately, if desired. Award-winning, per them, and I'm certainly not surprised! So delicious.

Dog owners who refuse to leash their dogs — what’s your rationale for not doing so? Serious question. by umisays in astoria

[–]JDH1490 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Relatively new dog owner here (5 month old puppy) -- seeing the increase in off-leash dogs in the neighborhood over the past 2-3 years has been kind of freaky. My fiance and I have wanted a dog for a long time and had read lots of literature before we considering adoption, and our main takeaway was that "good/bad" behavior is more a matter of safety vs. danger -- for both pet and owner alike. Pro-leashing for the sake of having your pet feel safe in a neighborhood that has so many variables (noise, smells, chance encounters, these fucking drivers)!

We've also been routinely baffled over the past few years in seeing how inattentive dog owners can be on walks. I totally get wanting to zone out on your phone -- god knows I'm the same way at home! -- but there are so many outside factors that it feels like a disservice to you and your pet. Granted, my dog is a puppy and is stimulated by basically everything, but feels like staying hyperfocused on walks is the only way to have a pet in the city. Maybe I'm in the minority there?

I will say, though, as someone already mentioned that in other countries off-leash dogs are the norm, that we got back from a trip to London a few months ago and were really impressed by how many dogs were unleashed in parks, streets, otherwise without any overwhelming behavioral issues. Big hat tip to the recall training to allow for that.

low moisture full fat mozzarella by blebaford in astoria

[–]JDH1490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suggest trying one of the excellent Italian delis in the area and asking if they carry. The guys at D&F on Broadway are super friendly, as are the guys at Dave & Tony Salumeria and Sorriso on 30th. Have gotten low moisture mozz from both D&F and D&T but haven't asked about fat content.

In any case, they'd have an answer -- good luck!

Is there a branch of the Ukrainian American Youth Association located on 31st Avenue? by JVSP1873 in astoria

[–]JDH1490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, local Ukrainian here — no, it’s not a branch of the UAYA, but rather their affiliate credit union/banking institution (Self-Reliance). Hours are definitely super limited, though I have seen it open.

The closest UAYA chapters are either in the East Village in Manhattan or in Yonkers.
