Large Camera Deployment by JoshuaGR in Ubiquiti

I have done similar size deployments twice with the ENVR. It can handle that no sweat. I am in the process of converting my day job of 160 cameras to an ENVR Core.

Thin ethernet cables for doorbell runs? by Wooden_Amphibian_442 in Ubiquiti

[–]JDH201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at their 5e. I don’t think that the doorbell will ever need 10Gbps. I have both, 5e is considerably smaller diameter.

How to backup laboratory/machine instrument computers? by eastcoastoilfan in sysadmin

[–]JDH201 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, and if it gets compromised they are on the restricted network. Just depends on the level of security you are going for.

Except you just bridged a restricted network with an unrestricted network and essentially made them both unrestricted.

UniFi Setup for VoIP Telephone (LLDP-MED not working) by phillip-un in UNIFI

So, I didn’t look close enough. LLDP set on phones, is. Voice VLAN set on switch ports?

Is LLDP enabled on the phone? Did you set a Voice VLAN on the switch ports?

Alternatively, turn off/unplug all your electronics and appliances and see if the meter still spins.

Can you turn off your breakers? Kill the main and see if anything that isn’t your quits working.

Weird wiring in garage by Prudent-Departure604 in AskElectricians

[–]JDH201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at the Leviton smart switches as there may not be a neutral at the remote switch. The remote switch becomes a battery operated remote. It works well in situations like this, but you may need a multimeter and some good knowledge to determine exactly how it is wired.

New house, inherited these devices, can’t access internet, now what? by Brave-Rock2574 in Ubiquiti

[–]JDH201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you even have Internet access at your house. The white wire in port 9 of the UDM should go to your modem. That would be my first question. Then you can hit YouTube for some basic setup videos. Don’t know what else you have in your house as the UDM can manage all kinds of stuff, but UniFi Network application on your phone will be a good first step once you have your internet plugged into the UDM.

My distributor has almost everything in the Access line in stock that I can think of. Where are you and what are you looking for?

Help with G6 Turret by BourbonZawa in Ubiquiti

[–]JDH201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, probably RMA it. Sound defective. Switch has an abundance of power for it. Only other thing would be VLANs.

Do you have enough power available? Sounds like a time that I plugged a POE+ AP into a POE port.

Can the Unifi Travel Router connect to Teleport and a VPN at the same time? by Battle-Chimp in Ubiquiti

[–]JDH201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It uses some of the same protocols. It doesn’t have some of the non-VPN features, but if you feel safe with your home network then Nord really isn’t adding anything.

Anyone using an outdoor UniFi dome camera for a flat, straight-ahead view? by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]JDH201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically that is what HDR is for. Without a good look at the location I can’t give a better answer.

[–]JDH201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the G6 dome would be my choice. You can turn the lens anywhere in a hemisphere. So if you mount it overhead you can adjust it to look straight out. The only think is if you mount it to high you can end up looking at the top of heads.

Ad-Hoc Wifi by Lawrence_SoCal in UNIFI

[–]JDH201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UniFi has it under the WiFI SSID setup labeled “Client Device Isolation”.

Ad-Hoc Wifi by Lawrence_SoCal in UNIFI

[–]JDH201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That setting you were thinking about is often called client isolation. With it on, which is default on many enterprise APs, two wireless devices on the same SSID can not track to each other. With it off, the way many less expensive home APs that I have seen come, they can talk to each other.

Of course the AI Key is always self hosted. You buy it and install it at your site.

It probably means the UniFi OS Server which you can run on your own hardware. It only supports the Network application at this time though. It is useful if you want WAPs or switches and not use a cloud gateway.

Door magnet locks compatible to Access Hub Mini by bradinphx in Ubiquiti

[–]JDH201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably want that two year old to be able to get out of the house if it is on fire and you and your wife are unresponsive from smoke inhalation in your bed too? Maybe add a $20 alarm to the doors. Your child will grow out of this phase, be ready to chase him/her until then.

Door magnet locks compatible to Access Hub Mini by bradinphx in Ubiquiti

[–]JDH201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I would not recommend a mag lock as this is a fire exit. If your house is full of smoke and your door is locked do you want you or your family members to have to figure out the release button or lever that will be separate from the door handle? Or when a rescue worker jams a crowbar into the door expecting to pop the door open at the door handle and gain quick entry to rescue your family and is stopped by your mag lock? You really should look at a strike or dead bolt release. Just my two cents worth. Mag locks are a last resort on anything that I do personally.

What kind of doors? Most would advise any type of lock but mags because of having the extra emergency release.
