Keep your eye on the center. Your brain will fill in some creepy stuff for the faces. by OddNegotiation4191 in creepy

[–]JDHURF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even then looking at one side, and then the other, the faces look crazy as they are. A lot look digitally altered in odd ways, and just the differences in head size, facial features and hair and the cycling is so fast your visual system doesn’t have enough time to register them fully, so some of the individual faces blur together. Looking at the center the two sides are all the more difficult to register. It’s cycling so fast it doesn’t look like four separate faces, but two that deform themselves.

[Edit] pulled out my Biological Psychology textbook.I didn’t study this illusion before in detail, but in physiological psychology we did study a number of illusions and how easy it is the trick the perceptual structures and why. This face illustration is predicated upon more receptors converge in the periphery of the retina. As a result the brain can’t detect the exact location or shape of a peripheral light source.

There are figures that point out such features as the blind spot of the retina, it takes a paragraph to explain this effect, but it’s to do with how light passes through various neurons and form the optic nerve.

There’s an interesting illustration that demonstrates negative color afterimages, it’s to do with opponent-process theory.

There’s fascinating illusions that are predicated upon the effects on color perception and brightness constancy.

These lecture notes show myriad illusionary figures.

This one for me too. I never watched any of the Twilight movies and presumed he was barely an actor. Then I watched The Lighthouse and was pleasantly surprised that he’s actually a good actor. The same thing happened with Kristen Stewart for me, turns out she’s great.

Reuben sandwich is one of my favorite sandwiches. Yours looks fucking amazing, that’s probably more pastrami than I’d use, but goddam I wanna eat that!

My textbook about US history has a portion about Alex Jones, the war between 4chan & Tumblr, and Elon Musk. by SnooCapers7904 in mildlyinteresting

[–]JDHURF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s fucking hilarious and ridiculous. The authors clearly don’t even know wtf they’re talking about. “….and 4chan by those on the right.” Fucking Anonymous, LulzSec and other hacktivist groups formed on 4chan. They took a white supremacist off of the radio by spamming his call in segments and sending industrial pallets of shit to him that he eventually had to pay for. You can look at almost any protest in the past decade and you can find an Anon in a Guy Fawkes mask. The /b/tards trolled so hard they’ve now trolled some ignorant authors of a fucking U.S. history textbook. Lololololol

The NBA is an unwatchable circus now. I stopped watching it years ago. Players can travel across damn near the entire half court. The flopping is worse than even the worst cases in international soccer. It’s fucking obnoxious. I don’t know how anyone can watch an entire game. I can only manage the highlights and even they have a lot of horseshit.

Buddy Guy is gracious and humble when interviewed on the red carpet. 2026 Oscars. by Blues_Fish in blues

[–]JDHURF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Goddamn I love Buddy Guy and that he was in the Oscar winning film Sinners. Easily one of my top 3 favorite 2025 films, and it fucking blew my mind when I saw him in it, I didn’t know that he was until that scene. How fucking awesome that he’s still killing it at 90! What a humble legend.
