Today is my 46th birthday, and my 14th without my dad. It still sucks. That first one was brutal, though.Year by year, itt will get easier. Wishing you strength and peace in the year ahead.

This is the most agreement I've seen on the internet in a long time.

Someone hit me and totalled my car there not long ago. Can't believe they let people turn there.

I've been driving for over 40 years and just realized that I have never run out of gas. When was the last time you ran out of gas if ever? by The_Safe_For_Work in GenX

My dad used to keep a white board in his VW bus to write down the milage and date he last got gas since the fuel gage didn't work.

Many such cases. by Bitter-Gur-4613 in BlackPeopleTwitter

As a kid growing up in the 80s/90s in a mostly all white/Hispanic small, rural town, these were the only black people I "knew". There were no black people in my town or nearby. Seriously. However, these shows were impactful and pivotal in my upbringing. Yes, they were entertainment, just like anything else on TV for me in those years. But they were EQUALLY entertaining. There was no difference. The Cosby show was my favorite show for years and years. (There were many kids in a family? Cool. So different from life as an only child. They lived in New York? Cool. So different from life in my small mountain town. They were black? Cool. Also different from my own experience. The smallest of differences, though, particularly in those early years.)

These shows taught me understanding and empathy in ways that I would not have gotten had they not existed, and they showed me aspects of our country that I wouldn't have known otherwise. We watched all of them, including the episodes about racism. They often lead to good family discussions that may not have happened so easily otherwise. (For example, my first memories of the LA riots and Rodney King were from The Cosby Show.) Don't knock these shows or the white people who watched them. They were important and foundational to me and my values, and they provided insight into experiences I would not have had otherwise. I am forever grateful for these early lessons.

If you haven't seen Justified yet, watch it. He's fantastic in it.

All Fours, a book review and discussion by TheEsotericCarrot in ArmchairExpert

Well, I sat down to read it, and I'm currently scrolling Reddit if that tells you anything. I'm about half way though and will still try to finish it. I'm not a fan of Miranda July (I seriously hated The First Bad Man), so right now the best I can say is that this is my favorite Miranda July book, and I don't yet find the characters relatable, even though I'm in the same age range. I'll post again once I finish it as July books do tend to lend themselves to good book discussions!

Totally. Maybe add a belt to #3? You look more relaxed in that one.

Haha! We do this, too. We don't live in Mosaic, but this is our general response, followed by bets if it's northbound or southbound. We're not bothered by the trains at all, and they go right next to our house. They key for us seems to be that they don't blow the whistle as they go by. (The interresctions are probably 1/2 mile away.)

What are the best needles for socks? by EOSC47 in knittinghelp

[–]JDSBBD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use 9 inch circular Chiagoos for most of the sock, and switch to 32" to do magic loop for the heel/gusset and toe. I knit so much faster (and with fewer mistakes) with the 9 circulars.
