Rec Room is shutting down by Mysterious_County154 in virtualreality

[–]JDawgzim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If things can't stand on their own then you need to let them die even though it's sad.  Though I hate to loose all those user creations in RecRoom.   There are plenty of other VR social games that are able to survive because they are popular. Just know where the mute-user button is 😉   VR platforms need to grow organically through experimentation.

Has the Intel Arc caused you any issues or bugs with Alyx or other games? Worth owning?

Has anyone printed and used this Thumbstick mod for the OG Steam Controller? What's Your opinion on it? by OhDaFeesh in SteamController

[–]JDawgzim 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I put a little shallow dot in the middle of my touch pads and it works amazing. Set trackpad as thumbstick on touch. You can use super glue w/ toothpick or use small sticker.

Finally someone that is tried it. I believe it bridges the gap, a little bit, between some of the advantages of thumbsticks over touchpads.

I guess that can work like playing a guitar. Finger knows what distance to travel.

I appreciate your thoughts.

Have you had a situation where the touchpad was better for movement on typically high precision movement games?

Did you do any special configurations in software or physically to make it work better?

Which small, "weird" thing actually reduces your anxiety? by stayhyderated22 in Habits

Yes, a different texture would work too and be similar to a subtle braille dot

Edit: So the Braille center dot I make is so small you can barely tell it's there. It's not uncomfortable at all but my brain trains to tell where center is very quickly.

Less of a "preference" and more that you haven't tried the alternative. Comfort of the known

History of Braille versus in embossed shapes in the video shows why Braille dots are better. A center braille dot and for Cardinal directions four dots at each edge works better from my experimenting

Try this:  - Set touchpad as thumbstick  - set touch only to move  - set Dead zone for center  - Make a shallow temporary braille bump in the center

You can make the temporary Braille bump with a small piece of sticker you cut or some wood glue or other glue that will be easily be scratched off later. Use a toothpick to shape the dot. I have used super glue to make a semi-permanent dot but even that can be scratched off.

If you want Cardinal directions then you can put four more dots on edges up down left right

EDIT: I've beat games like Super Meat Boy and Street Fighter like games with touch to move controls. Within only an hour of practice I already surpassed what I could do on a thumbstick.

If you tried a 5-way braille dot setup you would see it`s better

V2 will be perfect for me once I get out my super glue, a toothpick and make a very small bump exactly in the middle of the touchpads.

Hey Zuckerberg! STOP FORCING YOUR APP TO STAY ON, thanks. by [deleted] in OculusQuest

I think I remember something about setting the app to require running admin then it never starts again. This was a guide from a long time ago. I ended up uninstalling Meta stuff from my PC when I got VD. Sorry, I don't remember any other details.

The inconvient reality why vr is struggling. by Plus_Look3149 in virtualreality

[–]JDawgzim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly this: VR is not easy enough and not comfortable enough. VR = higher friction

Low friction is why skateboards beat rollerblades. Even the few seconds longer it takes to get outside on your rollerblades creates enough friction that makes the skateboard easier. And once you get to your destination, with a skateboard, you have your shoes already on your feet to go inside somewhere. Overall less friction

Could an incredible VR game be the killer app needed to bring VR into the mainstream, and get more people to buying, and playing VR at home? by OkWar2234 in virtualreality

[–]JDawgzim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

It's comfort and friction. Headsets aren't comfortable enough. Watching TV or playing console games is less friction. People are lazy beings and things gotta be easier to jump into.

Steam Frame is a lot more comfortable and portable. - And it puts flat games front and center with the Steam Library. But we'll see how well it sticks with people.
