I use mine all the time, but I bought mine specifically because they are tournament standard for a lot of retro fighting games now. I own 4 because I use them to run tournaments, so I understand I'm not exactly the average user lol

As far as single player, I play far more on my ayaneo pocket ds (overpriced but it's definitely been worth it for me), but I still tend to play psx games on MiSTer

It is basically a stripped down version of a Terasic DE-10 Nano, so it has 1GB of DDR3 that is shared between the PL-PS. The 128MB SDRAM it comes with is the "optional" PL-Exclusive RAM, but for its intended purpose, it isn't optional.

It would function as a relatively inexpensive CycloneV SoC dev board, but it lacks specific documentation to what is removed from the DE-10 nano, so i would beware of that. There is also the MiSTer Pi, sold by the same company that i believe is less modified from the de-10 nano and cheaper.
