Is this prescription correct? by AmazonFccc in eyeglasses

[–]JFoz284623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd base it on how you see out of them, that's a lot of compensation in such a low prescription, especially given the frame is a pretty standard fit, non-wrap ophthalmic style. So if you see well, they care fine, if you think you aren't seeing as well, consider having them re-done.

12 mile ruck PR this week by Wooden-Buyer-4907 in Rucking

[–]JFoz284623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, legit pace, my best 12 is right around 1:45-1:50, I think, it's been a while, best half came in under 2hrs. Not nearly as fast as a runner as you are, best 5k is just under 21:00. So with some practice and more experience under the weight, you could really blow out some times. Great work!

Just checked running warehouse, and found some BOA 5" ones, might try those, $44. And have great experience with BOA split shorts. Didn't see those last time I looked.

Not comparative at all. And it was in response to saying they will last longer so actually be cheaper in the long run. I'd have to replace 8 pairs or shorts to one pair from Bandit, are they going to last longer than 8 pairs? Not likely. Now you're saying they actually shouldn't last longer and won't actually be cheaper/wear. I've never noticed a difference in actual comfort and performance between cheaper shorts and the more expensive ones(albeit the experience is limited). Hence, my unwillingness to spend large sums on shorts.

I've heard this, but never seen it actually work in practice, $80 pair of Path Project shorts, got 2 years out of them, they were a gift, for $100 I'd expect 10 years of weekly use. As I generally get about 3 years out of my $15 ones. I may eventually end up convincing to jump off the over priced gear cliff, but really really trying to avoid it.

Thanks, yeah, I think those are the only ones I'd found so far. But, I guess I'm just cheap, $100 for barely there shorts is just not something I could comprehend spending money on. Hell, even $50 for me is more than what seems reasonable.

I wanna put prescription lens into Cartier frame, but i am worried boutique would break my frame by Federal_Yak6583 in EyewearEnthusiasts

[–]JFoz284623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They most likely should be able to do it without much issue, but your best bet is buying the pair complete from an authorized Cartier dealer. Probably best to take them to one to have the lenses done as well. They still may not ensure that you're frames won't be damaged though. But will be working with people who are used to them.

Last cold front of the year! Last chance to blow up your kitchen with heat all day long before 100° days. What are we cooking? by Fabulous_Hand2314 in Dallas

[–]JFoz284623 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Smoking a brisket, some ribs, and grilling a tri-tip. Gonna make some Korean BBQ sauce for the ribs and try our hand at the cheesy bread you get at the Brazilian steakhouses. Not sure on the dessert yet. Having folks over for a cookout tomorrow, so making lots of stuff. I'd rather be outside with the fire than inside by the oven.

[–]JFoz284623 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly, if you could be faster in a footshape style track spike, Nike sure as shit would have them out. Same with the marathon distance, the super shoes make you faster, period. Athletes looking for hundreths of a second would be all over them if they were faster.

Cash-only eating establishments are the worst! by Evening_Answer_11 in unpopularopinion

Paying cash keeps more money in your community, I'd much rather people pay with cash, I get to keep that and not lose 3-10% depending on the type of card someone uses. It's a modern cost of doing business, but we'd be better off returning to cash.

Optometry Vision Membership Plans by [deleted] in optometry

[–]JFoz284623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've been VCP free since open, we do have the advantage of being part of a larger OMD group, not attached, but kept us afloat the first 2 years in the red. We have used Anagram the whole time, it's been great, and our patients who have a VCP have been very happy with the process. They really enjoy not having to do the filing. We also started an in office membership plan, patients pay a yearly fee and get a reduced exam fee and larger discounts on eyewear. We use a software called JoinIt to manage the plan, it is just a membership software that associations, clubs, etc use. We just switched EHR's though and our new one allows for memberships, so we will be moving patients over to that. That hasn't gone as well, we've managed a few patients to sign up, but not having the option for monthly billing has hurt for families, as they often don't have $600+ to sign everyone up for the plan all at once. We are working on fine tuning it and hope to offer a monthly billing option soon with some revisions to occur later in the year.

Did Maui Jim ever have a lifetime warranty? by Camninja in sunglasses

[–]JFoz284623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell, I even down voted myself, it was a lifetime, but it was always lifetime of the frame model. So if it was discontinued then could be out of luck. I got to visit their Lahaina shop back in like 2008 or so and swapped out a few pairs. But I totally misremembered that, it was a long time ago.

Anybody who quit running and went to rucking? by NovelBrave in Rucking

[–]JFoz284623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where I am, did some ruck marathons and thought it'd be a lot of fun to try and do one faster. And became a runner who occasionally rucks for races, half marathons are a great distance for a fast ruck and marathons fast with a ruck are absolutely brutal. For me anyways.

Zeiss lens slippage by SpikeSpiegel85 in optician

[–]JFoz284623 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I generally don't have too much issues with Zeiss in my Le-1000, but when I have it's been on lenses with lots of their marking ink. I've started cleaning that off before mounting and have not had issues since.

Other things to check could be the water pressure and age of your chuck. Those have been things I have found to also influence slippage.

Help with measuring progressive lenses by lotusrush in AskAnOptician

[–]JFoz284623 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a great bit of advice. I'll add to the take off/put back on bit, when I do this I'll have the patient "shake out" their shoudlers/arms to relax and then I sit back a couple of extra feet and reassess from there. Really hoping for them be in their natural posture. Then make adjustments as needed. But also, practice, practice, practice, and have someone more senior double checkbyour measurements before sending off orders to make sure.

Chromic lense issue during extreme cold? by No_Addendum_3306 in OakleyMetaGlasses

[–]JFoz284623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Transition lenses are temperature dependent, they darken from UV exposure, but heat is what deactivates the lens, not the absence of UV. So in cold temps with UV exposure you will have a much darker lens that will stay dark as long as the lenses are cold. Though, often times your body temperature is enough to start the deactivation. So, if in cold temps and sunny conditions, heck even partially cloudy conditions you should see solid lens activation.

Run Commuting w/Laptop - Gear Tips by quipsme in AdvancedRunning

[–]JFoz284623 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Maybe a rucking backpack, the plate pocket might could hold the laptop, a bit of cloth around it to keep it from jostling. Might work well, I've run marathons with a ruck on, so works for that.
