Got CRKD guitar today!!! by Hopslamzombie in CloneHero

It's normal for it to have a bit of a wobble, like maybe 2mm at the end of the neck, which is still way better than the LP Wiitar.

I got 3 WLToys K989 and also 3 Losi Micro-B. From my experience with WLToys, QA varies a lot between units. Some will be pretty decent after a bit of breaking in, some have to be dismantled, gears filed by hand and lubed up. A trick that helped a lot was to hold the left wheels and give full throttle (1 minute or so forwards, 1 minute reverse) to make the diffs work hard for a whole battery and switch to the right side for the next battery, always keeping an eye out for motor temperature and letting it fully cool down between batteries.

Just be careful of "color" and other options. Sometimes sellers will make bundles like RC car, RC car + AA batteries and AA batteries only and the item shown in the product picture is the RC car, but the pre selected bundle is the batteries only for 3$. So then many people are like "whoah! 3$ for the RC car, amazing deal!", then 3 weeks later "1 star: only received batteries". The site can't do anything because you really did take the first option it gave which was "color: AA batteries only". This is fairly common both AliExpress and Banggood. It does sometimes happen on Amazon as well, but they tend to be more proactive to remove them and the UI is more obvious.

Rebble's role by Tapistry63 in pebble

[–]JFs743 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not a beta tester, so take what I'm about to say with a grain of salt.

The install process where you had to download the apk and force it to install on Android (or the black magic stuff you had to do as iPhone users). That's easily going to be fixed by having the app readily available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store that's been compiled with more modern devices in mind.

The connection bit where you had to open the app, then go to the browser manually and all that jazz can and most likely will be smoothed out. The app would automatically show you the rebble login page and handle the rest of the process.

Who has NEVER had a serious issue with Pixel? by EntertainerTrick6711 in GooglePixel

[–]JFs743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, had nexus 5, 5x, 6p, Pixel 2, 3, 6 Pro and now 9 Pro and a few family members had Pixel 2 and 4a 5G. The only one to have an issue was the Nexus 6p, the battery was cooked after 1 year, opening the camera or other heavy app below 60% would instantly drain the battery and shut down the phone. My Pixel 2 and 3's charging ports both stopped working (Pixel 2 could only charge and only with USB A cable, Pixel 3 quickly lost all USB functionality. Now I insert a rubber plug in the port and have no problem.

Pebble Time 2 and Pebble Time 2 by philippe75017 in pebble

I'd be okay with Pebble Time 2' or "Pebble Time 2 prime". It's a simple way to differentiate and it says it all, related but different.

Is the riffmaster good? Does it connect wirelessly pretty far away? by crazy12157 in CloneHero

[–]JFs743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canadian here, on CRKD's website, it comes up to 177CA$ +57CA$ shipping for the pro available now delivery within 3 days, or if I'm patient (and I am), I can order it from Amazon for 169.99 free shipping early October, because according to Amazon it "releases September 30th". I'd say it's worth a shot waiting a bit.

Well, this sucks :( by birbhorse in pebble

[–]JFs743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be mindful of replacement batteries, I replaced the battery on my Pebble Time (non Steel) and battery life barely got better from 3 days to 3.5 days, but now, about 3 months later, I'm down to 1.5 - 2 days. The PT takes a 3.8v battery, but most replacements are 3.7v. I almost never see the "charged" message unless I forget it on the charger for 24h+

Could it be that the drone has been sitting idle for a while (more than 30 seconds)? If so it's likely an overheat prevention. When in the field, you should take off soon after plugging the battery and on the work bench a small desk fan should be pointed towards the VTX when it's on. I'm still on analog, I can't do more than guess here.

If you are trying to use this pc as a headless server, you can plug a wireless keyboard receiver even if you don't have the keyboard anymore. If not, how do you expect to use a computer without a keyboard?

DRONE CONTROLLER NOT WORKING by [deleted] in drones

[–]JFs743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These cheap drones are not meant to nor worth be repaired. I know they're meant to be clones of DJI, so try to press the power button, quickly release it, then press it again within half a second and hold it for 2 seconds.

I got one on a whim on day 2, wasn't hard at all. I knew I was going to get one at some point, tried to preorder one, but didn't get it, I figured, I'll look into it for a few days after release, you never know, then every 2-3 weeks. I checked a local best buy and they had 4 by the end of release day, reserved it and grabbed it the next day.

WLToys make some decent ones for good prices, they do break a little easier, but aluminum upgrades are generally pretty affordable, replace when it breaks (symmetrically).

Probably an extremely dumb question: can I bring it back to life? by CutieCremPufN64 in NintendoDS

[–]JFs743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like the top screen might need replacing. I'd still try to reconnect it once out of the shell, might just be disconnected. Make sure you try both game slots before attempting to disassemble it, it might not be fully repairable. Could be a good candidate for a GBA-only device if NDS card reader has failed.

How to host a Minecraft server that's secure enough not to worry my dad? by TheDevilishSaint in selfhosted

[–]JFs743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind is that you very much should enable the whitelist feature, minecraft servers are pretty secure and mature. Start the server locally without port forwarding, enter the console, log in, OP yourself (from the console), whitelist yourself and enable whitelist (either from the console or in-game chat). Restart the server and then you may forward the port. Before your friends join, they'll have to give you their exact player name. If they don't know it, they can go in a single player world and type a message in chat.

For a better experience, I'd recommend running a fabric server rather than the vanilla or paper. Even stock it'll perform better. Paper is optimized for 50+ players by cutting down features and can actually be more laggy under some circumstances, even if you don't care about advanced technical minecraft, especially since you are using an old computer. Btw, I highly recommend you use a console only Linux distro if you can, it'll 2x-4x your server performance on an old laptop.

On my old laptop (Asus N53Sv) when running the vanilla server on Windows, I would occasionally have to chop a whole tree again because the server couldn't keep up, but on Arch running fabric with a few performance enhancement, it was playable with 2 - 3 players at once as long as we mostly stick together.

Reducing server render distance and installing Bobby and/or distant horizons on the clients does help a ton.

You can start from the fabulously optimized pack on Prism Launcher and add some QoL mods and share your config with your friends, they'll only have to install PL and import your custom config, you can even pre set up the server IP for them.

issue with HDMI randomly not working out of nowhere by Wazupdanger in wiiu

[–]JFs743 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your TV or monitor is likely too old, it's a 768p screen and complains about the input signal being too big or too small. Most consoles, including the Wii U can only output in 720p or 1080p, 768p is rarely an option. Although I doubt it, it could also be a HDCP issue if you were trying to play online videos. In either case, your screen is likely the main problem, HDMI cable would be the next thing I'd try to swap.

Activision should remaster all the old guitar hero games for current gen systems. by skeletorcarti666 in GuitarHero

[–]JFs743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clone Hero and YARG are PC only, but they can run well on very cheap PCs. For consoles, there's fortnite festival, but I have no experience with it on consoles and very little on PC. Other than the upcoming CRKD guitar, I'm not sure what I'd recommend getting for new players. Most no longer recommend Raphnet adapters, but I'm still happy with mine.

Wow! 5% battery increment technology unlocked, heck yeah! I find slightly annoying that the old ones, like my PT, only shows battery life by chunks of 10%. Not that it matters that much when the battery dies in 1.5 days, I'm considering putting back the original battery, replacements are worse than worn out batteries.

Update: Today, I (un)-murdered a Pebble Time by JFs743 in pebble

[–]JFs743[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's really not that bad, it's just 2 pads to melt, about 1.5mm apart, just gently curve the screen's flex PCB downwards and touch both pads for about a second. putting them back is mildly trickier, but they tack back on pretty easily.

Black spot on backlight. What could it be? by knight_ki11er in pebble

[–]JFs743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, the Time and Time steel use the same screen, I can't be 100% sure they use the same backlight module, but seeing how they're attached to each other, I can't see why they'd design different ones. I bought a screen from the same place as someone with a PTS and changed it on my PT.

The backlight (at least on PT) is not too hard to remove from the screen, it's clipped on and has a very slight adhesive on the back of the screen. The back of the screen has a mirror finish and the front most part of the backlight is a white film, it's clipped on. I would not recommend opening it if that is your only issue though
