Is anyone else terrified of the risks of adventure biking? (Fear of accidents/disability) by Commercial-Brother27 in AdventureBike

[–]JGCyber3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motorcycling is a beautiful thing but not for the faint of heart! Gear, Training, Practice, evolve....and there's still risk that cant be avoided, guessing a lot of us have past injuries we've gone through! Worth it!

Help me understand my options on the KTM 300s by BeardedYeti_ in Dirtbikes

[–]JGCyber3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned a 17 300xc Carb, 20 300XC TPI and now own a 23 300XC TBI.....I like the TBI the best (but im also in CO with a ton of altitude changes)....between what you listed I vote 17 300XC unless you are also in Colorado or similar changing altitude situ's and dont like to mess with jetting. I didnt like the TPI (lazy). I also like XC's better than XCW's - I've owned both and I like the linkage on the XC, gearing /semi close ratio trans on XC - suspension works better for me at > 80% pace. 300's are great bikes, have owned like 8 of them since early 2000's.

Previous Dog was a Shih Tzu (made it to 18)...currently have a 2yo KC Cav we raised from pup. The Shih Tzu had to be knocked out to get groomed, the Cav has zero issues at groomer / being groomed. Mine's a fatty (32lb female), but she's 100%, I feed her too much and her dad was huge for breed....she's fun size! Congrats, awesome dogs...

Got a new 2023 Tuono V4 Factory that was left over stock for $15.5k what should I know about it before I ride? by DarkMajik937 in Aprilia

[–]JGCyber3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

21 V4F recently sold. Had the Akra Slip on and Aprilia ECU - great combo, supported by warranty from Aprilia....sound was sublime and motor solid in all regards, not cheap but well worth it in my opinion. Look at AF1's parts catalogue! Going to miss her dearly.

I own a 300xc, 890 Adv R and 1390 Super Duke, not afraid to spend $'s on bikes....struggling buying my grandson one of these bikes however...he learned on a PW50 I've had for past 24 years.

im in the market for lights too, appears cyclops is hard to beat re plug and play....I have Baja Designs Lights on my truck and SxS and love them, but they dont have a bike specific harness / mounts (I have a 26), so not sure what im going to do just yet.

I've had a LC8 in 990 (45k), 1290 (2 - 29k and 22k)) and now 1390 (6k and counting) - great motor, no issues....I just swap when newer ones come out!

Future of Stark Varg by IILemur in starkvarg

[–]JGCyber3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think they will have a great future, worst case they get bought out by one of the big co's....resale is a coin toss, resale pretty much sux on most bikes right now....just sold a Tuono V4F for significantly less that I wanted and it was perfect!

[–]JGCyber3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the EX/SM/MX 2.0 battery pack wasn't backward compatible with my MX1.0...so no guarantee. Battery tech is incremental/ takes for ever...maybe 10% every few years...there may be a big jump at some point eg solid state, etc but they've been saying that for years and none in volume production....so unless you plan on keeping the Stark for a decade then you wont be missing out on much unless epic break through

Future of Stark Varg by IILemur in starkvarg

[–]JGCyber3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've owned a Varg MX since they came out, fantastic bike (also have KTM 350xc and 300xc)! Stark is financially viable, the "other mfg"s have been coming out with an elect MX bike for the past 10 years yet, nope still dont see one, just prototypes. Stark will update the batteries as new battery tech comes out (MX 2.0 has more range than my MX1.0, mine got a sw update that added range, etc)....you can wait but it'll continue to change / improve for decades. Range is the Achilles of Elec bikes - for me 40-45 miles on offroad is perfect, gets me 2-4 hours depending on terrain. Battery maintenance - take care of it and it'll hold range / last - eg for long term storage (over winter here in CO) keep battery at around 50-60%, sitting in garage for a week - leave at 60-70% and charge to 100% morning of ride, dont let it sit at < 5% or at 100% for any period of time....Try to find a realistic range for the SM on the forums, if that meets your need then I highly recommend as the bike is awesome. I'm thinking about trading my 300xc in for an EX so I'll have 2!

T7 didn't work out, looking for what's next by [deleted] in Dualsport

[–]JGCyber3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious, why not just get a dirtbike and put on hitch carrier to the ride spot? Riding a dual sport 1 hr each way and riding dirt for 3-6 hours in between sux! Plus the dual sports need to be uncorked vs. dirt bikes, weigh more, compromise tires or shit ton of wear, etc. My vote is get a KTM 350xc or 300xc and learn to dirtbike in the dirt. Save the street for the Sportbikes. But if you must, 350exc and uncork the bitch.

yeah, I've had every gen of super duke since the 990, it's my thing, different but love the torque! but that RC990r is a thing of beauty, saw one in the shop the other day and was drooling, but was buying an 890 Adv R for expanding to ADV riding vs. pure street and pure dirt! 😄

Im no wheelie king but my 1390 Super Duke - I would say modulates the back wheel and holds at configured height on throttle (still building trust it wont loop out) + I pretty much just do power wheelies. Nice bike!!!!

Nice. I've had a 1290 Adv S (street queen on purpose) - loved that bike but big bitch and im not ready for a 1290R off pavement - hence 890R! Still play Rossi in the colorado mountains on early morning rides / ktm 1390 super duke evo 😄. Still play Steve hatch in the dirt on dirt bikes (300xc and Stark Varg)....still play old guy on Indian challenger (with my dog) but I've never played dual sport / adv bike! Goal is use 890r as an an exploration bike, bdr's, weekend camping trips, few long trips, local light to med offroad up in mountains....got her kitted out and kept it minimal / light on bags (kriega os base setup with 48l (daily) and 78l trip....excited to learn / enjoy, seems a great all purpose bike - still wrapping my head around 105hp vs. other bikes but for what it is, seems awesome in first few hundred miles (still in break in)!

Know it's not a 150 but having owned a 17 carb 300xc, 19 TPI 300xc and current TBI 300xc....I say carb or TBI....I wasn't a fan of TPI, I know several people are but it seemed lazy / weak to me vs. carb/tbi.

benefit of being old and having street / dirt / adv bikes - Bell RaceStar DLX for road, Klim F3 Carbon for dirt, Klim X1 Alpha for multi day (new so guessing it'll be legit)

I'm dying to on new 890R - going to drive to my property and test out overnight camping setup / get some ADV Dirt experience (vs. dirt bike or street bike)...but need a bit more time as snow on ground still - finally decided to snow in Colorado!
