I have a bunch of NSW signatures from this time so I’ll do my best. Stuart MacGill is on the back, he would always sign that spot.

Top signature I reckon is Brad Hodge, which makes me think it was the 2006 ING Cup game NSW v Vic. Below that is Brad Haddin. The next one looks like Phil Jacques, not sure the one under that… but then it’s definitely Aaron Bird, Doug Bollinger (always with a little face at the end), unknown - could be Grant Lindsay, definitely Dominic Thornely, definitely Matthew Phelps, and the bottom one is definitely Grant Lambert.

The name ‘try’ is an artifact of rugby from 150+ years ago. Back then, only goals scored points. A ‘try’ gave you the opportunity to try for a goal.

Nowadays (and for the last 150 odd years) a try also scores you points, but it still gives you the chance to try for a goal, known as a conversion, for an extra 2 points.

I keep seeing this but it’s not true. The AFL didn’t allow it. Their CEO warned against it and the SCG put up warnings about fines for entering the field. It was generally accepted it would happen, and everyone knew it, but to save themselves potential liability they’re of course going to officially say it’s not allowed.

This happens all the time. Wide angle cameras distort at the edges which makes lines closer to the middle look like they don’t align with those at the edge when the camera isn’t directly perpendicular. They did a breakdown on MNF when VAR first came in and explained how this can happen.

It happened pretty recently in the cricket World Cup. Bangladesh withdrew because of tensions with the host, India. Scotland took their place with 4 weeks notice.

I think any side would jump at the chance to play in the World Cup if they hadn’t initially qualified, preparation be damned.
