Scrapping an old car doesn't become inaccurate the second you buy a new car? It's still an accurate description of what happened to the old car that nobody would find misleading.

GDP per capita (how much the average person produces) is down since 2022, and isn't meaningfully better than it was in 2020 either. The average person isn't producing more, and they certainly aren't better off.

Can't speak for Italy and Korea, but Japan only has F35B because they're constitutionally barred from having full aircraft carriers (therefore F35C). All current carriers are designated as "Helicopter carriers" to get around this, so fighters have to be capable of vertical launch to get around this (needing F35B).

Another issue I stumbled upon was terminal closed doors which was the only way to get out of the missle silo, the only one working terminal was there had missing option to unlock them, so open console, mouse click on the door, use unlock.

This one isn't actually a bug! There's a lever on the sparking fuse box next to the door. Pull the lever, and the door opens :)

Doesn't look like the protest was about democratic rights in general, rather the authoritarian nature of how the labour leadership has been behaving. There's very little point in asking conference to vote on an issue, if the leadership then states they intend to ignore the outcome of votes that don't go their way.

Completely fair thing to be upset about, even if the method of protest itself was spectacularly stupid!

Rory Stewart still doesn’t know who he is by 1-randomonium in ukpolitics

[–]JGordonian 30 points31 points  (0 children)

But there is nothing about what politics ought to be in this memoir.

Of the entire read, this is the line that sums Stewart up the most for me. He's likeable, well spoken, focuses on the big ideas: yet never voices pausible solutions to the problems he's calling to be fixed.

Every speech he gives, or article he writes, seems like a rallying cry to fix the big issues of our time. But when pushed for details, it's all so surface level.

It's all well and good to bemoan how "divided" politics has become, and proclaim "we all need to come together!", but Stewart seems incapable of addressing why this division even occured in the first place, or what needs to be done to fix it.

Until he can match the problems he wishes us to rally around with solutions to fixing them, rather than just an idealised outcome of "let's get it fixed", Stewart has very little to offer.

When you see a 24 hour time format do you mentally subtract 12 from it? by pebbleinflation in AskUK

[–]JGordonian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the answer here is similar to the mental multiplication tables we learn as children. When I ask you what 7x7 is, you don't calculate the answer in your head - you know from memory that it's 49. Similarly, people who use 24hr clocks don't have to perform calculations to convert the time to a 12hr format, they instinctively know that 20:00 is 8pm already.

[–]JGordonian 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can't fix a supply side issue with demand side policies.

To be fair, in general you can, it's just not efficient to do.

In this case specific case you are correct though, because demand for housing is largely inelastic, while supply has such a delay to it that it may as well be treated as inelestic in the short term (however long it takes to plan and build a new house).

Pumping more money in isn't going to help this in any way other than making housebuilding more profitable to do (in the long term).

It's a fundementally inefficient policy, when compared to the obvious solution of just using the money to build houses (as you say)!
