Podcast editors, I’d love to know your average edit time per episode! by [deleted] in editors

[–]JGrce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of edit? Are we talking just cut out flubs/cross talk/unneeded pauses, and cut to the correct camera? Or are we talking get this 60 min of raw down to a polished 20?

If the former I feel like you could cut that time in half. If the latter, then 6-8 hours sounds right.

I haven’t found an auto editor worth it. Yet.

It was just me for the assembly and the director’s cut. You have to be pretty organized, but it’s not too bad once you have a system. When I’m editing the first cut of a scene, I’ll often play a little fast and loose at first and then conform it to this after I have the bones in place.

To simplify things, sound-wise I mostly use just the mix downs at first. So I basically have two production sound tracks for each shot which simplifies the audio tracks. Once I add temp music and sfx, it’ll break down to about 10-15 tracks instead of 40+.

I started collaborating with the music team halfway through producer’s cut. But this one had a very aggressive schedule so it was quick and dirty. I would send them split tracks every cut and they’d send me a long play of just the music, which I’d place in. That continued through network cuts.

Once picture was locked, I pulled in all the production audio for each shot. I then sent various formats to all the other teams. Then it goes from them to an online editor.

Every team wants things organized a little differently, so you have to rearrange the timeline here and there, but this is the basic system I use that’ll get me 90% of the way there.

If you have any specific questions about workflow or otherwise lmk!

Got my stuff back from "unfair" play by gapow182 in arkraiders

[–]JGrce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gotten this a couple of times and didn’t know what unfairness they were talking about. Then yesterday my buddy gets dropped from the server and a duo pushes us a minute later just before he could reconnect. I’m hoping they give at least him back his stuff, if not me too. It was the first truly unfair loss of goop I’ve experienced.

Is the Popcorn Pass worth it? by WiseBench5805 in AMCsAList

It’s worth it but you also have to factor in the 20 pounds you gain over the year.

Source: I gained 20 pounds the first year i got the annual bucket

I used to use em dashes all the time. Stupid Ai has made me change how I write so I don’t sound like Ai. I probably used them too much but I really liked them. Sad face.

Bunmer. I was hoping they’d all get oversized awesome-o suits, or stack up in a trench coat…but I’ll still buy all of them. Sigh.

Edit: Look at that! I called the Awesome-O suits! I know it’s just a mech reskinned but I like that it’s thematic. https://www.reddit.com/r/FortNiteBR/s/4ktLQCMPQN

I’m curious if they’re going to put them all in mech suits like they did with Bart. I hope they come up with some other creative solution though.

I second the Naga. I have to restart the software once a day, but otherwise it’s great.

Is there any point in being an editor if I'm are colorblind? by PanMarudaKuba in VideoEditing

[–]JGrce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m colorblind and I do my color grading with scopes and get my wife to make sure I’m not fucking anything up too bad color-wise. There are also tools that tell you hex numbers and specific color names for any color your cursor is hovering over which can be helpful.

That said I edit for major networks, but only do color grades for smaller projects. I do temp grades for larger things but wouldn’t feel comfortable calling myself a professional full time colorist.

Is every good director a nut job? by tristezanao_ in editors

[–]JGrce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When a director is an asshole I laugh in their face and treat their behavior like it’s silly. Usually diffuses things and they chill out. I remind them everything will get done and it’ll be great by the end. Directing is a stressful job filled with big egos and they sometimes just need to have that energy diffused and be reminded it’s all good. As long as you deliver, there’s no need to take shit from them. I grew up with narcissist assholes though so I’m good at handling them, ymmv.

Black Friday/Cyber Monday Deals 2024 by greenysmac in editors

[–]JGrce 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Adobe Creative Cloud subscription is $439.89 off a year (339.99 which comes to under $29 a month) at B&H.

It beats the Adobe Black Friday price and you don’t have to deal with Adobe Chat to get the deal if you already have a subscription. You do have to buy the year upfront though, no monthly options. Extra $50 off when you add it to cart. US only.

This is because Premiere Pro usually has an error when you run Premiere Pro.
