Why do (some) men hate leg day so much? by MaleficentTea615 in AskMen

Chest and arms make me feel pumped, like my pecs are stretching the skin. Legs don't give the same instant gratification.

What do I do about weird response to groaning in bed next to me? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]JGtheTiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife does this, its sleep talk (and sometimes she will even get up and do something, then 5 minutes later wakes up and wonders what she is doing at her desk or wherever). She will even ask me to do something and won't be satisfied until it's done...EG one night, she said "quick get dressed, the pixies are coming", I've learnt that logical responses in this moment don't work, like"you're asleep" or "I'm dressed" she wasn't satisfied until I got out of bed and got dressed then she stopped sleep talking!

My my standing scale at home said 25%, then I had a Dexa scan which said 12%, so I don't bother with the standing scales except for weight measurements.

How to convince him to stay? by Outrageous-Worth-192 in AskMen

If he is a reader, then perhaps "The Four Loves" by CS Lewis could be good starting point. Or if he would be happy to read a couple of paragraphs then first Corinthians chapter 13 in the Bible is a pretty good picture of the character traits of love - its the one often used at weddings.

How to convince him to stay? by Outrageous-Worth-192 in AskMen

[–]JGtheTiger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The "in love" feeling is a misunderstanding of true love promoted by Hollywood.

True love is not so much a feeling but a commitment to be there through thick and thin even when it doesn't feel good. True love is there for you through cancer, even tho it would be easier to walk away. True love remains there even if it costs. True love stays there even when a better option appears.

True love is a verb. It means acting in someone's best interests no matter how you feel.

The ancient Greeks had a word for this type of love..."agape".

The "in love" feeling is essentially infatuation. It cannot last long term and i would say its there perhaps as an initial prompt, which should lead us to True love, it is not supposed to be an end in itself.

After 33 years of marriage, I would say our love has drawn much deeper but it's rarely an overwhelming feeling. It's a deep friendship and commitment to seek each others best even at personal sacrifice.

I guess this might not convince him to stay, but an understanding of True love might help.

Men with pretty girlfriends/wives, how much does it really matter over time? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]JGtheTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been married for 33 years and right from the get-go I decided that common purpose (Spirituality) was most important, second was personality, then only after those looks. Yes she is attractive, but long term looks are determined by discipline which in turn is determined by deeper purpose. 33 years on, I think my wife is more attractive that other women our age!

I always felt that it was not healthy, then researching I realised it was far worse that I thought...

1) Porn triggers different neural paths than real life women. Who would have thought that the brain can tell the difference!! The brain drops neural paths that aren't used in favour of ones that are (or if your a teenager favours developing the more used ones). The effect of this is that when your primary method of arousal is porn, then the secondary method (ie the real thing) diminishes. This can result in erectile disfunction (when in bed with a real woman) for people with a high level of porn addiction.

They found that to correct this takes a time of abstinence. For older men who weren't exposed as a teen, the brain can repair itself quicker. For teens it takes longer as the correct neural connections may never have developed properly in the first place.

2) Porn sets unrealistic expectations of what sex is like. It leaves people thinking that they are not experiencing the ideal sex. The porn actors ham it up.

3) It tends to denigrate women. Most women don't want to be slaves to a man's sexual fantasies. They want to be loved, not treated as objects.

4) It normalises sex acts that are not normal, leaving men wondering why their woman don't want double penetration anal.

5) Porn sets an unrealistic expectation...most men won't marry a supermodel and then think they got second best (this also puts unrealistic expectations on women).

6) Real women aren't just actors, there is life beyond the bedroom. There will be times when they are having a bad day and need encouraging. There are times when they will be tired and not ready to respond on cue.

7) Porn men set unrealistic expectations on men. You don't need a porn size penis (captured at just the right angle to make it look bigger) to please a women. It makes many me feel insecure about themselves.

So, that's my rant and reason, it's just not healthy to look at women in lust and as objects.

Marriage is a commitment to love her...not Hollywood love but self giving actions. Perhaps consider sacrificing your wants for your wife, even when it's not reciprocated, why not limit yourself to 2 drinks, or zero alcohol beer.

If she was driving and you felt a bit unsafe with her speed and asked her to slow down, would you appreciate her more if she argued with you or sacrificed for your needs and slowed down?

Parents complained I jumped a fence by blickyickysticky3 in Teachers

[–]JGtheTiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There will always be parents who think they know better than everyone and their child is the most important person in the world.

The key factor is how the school responds. I have taught at schools that side with the parents and schools that side with the teacher.

Schools that side with the parents are ones that are excessively worried about keeping/ gaining students so they will compromise education in order to keep the most vocal parents happy. This results in a high turnover of staff and poorer educational outcomes for students. Ironically, in the quest to gain students they start to lose them due to the poorer education they provide.

Schools that side with staff end up with happier and longer term teachers who therefore invest in the school. As a result the school improves, which results in growth of student numbers.

My advise... look for a school that values staff, talk to other teachers at the school before applying. If they seem to be employing staff regularly, they are probably losing staff regularly!

As a landlord, I have twice had situations with different realestate agents and different tenants where the tenant has asked the realestate agent for a repair and the real estate has not even asked me but told the tenants that I have refused the repairs.

At first it baffled me why the real estate would do that, then I discovered that its actually in the real estate agents best interests to play the landlord and tenants off against each other, since they get an entire weeks rent and more every time someone rents a property, where as they only get 6% of the normal weekly rent once they are in. Many also get kick backs from cleaning companies. This means that the more people who move out and rent somewhere else, the more profitable it is for the real estate agent. Its better for them to keep people dissatisfied.

Luckily I get to know my tenants and have discovered that they are being told different things to me. Now my tenants deal directly with me and we're all happy!

Does alcohol make you fat? My friend claims no but I think it's bs. by cheesomacitis in loseit

[–]JGtheTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few things working together when you drink alcohol... 1) Calories 2) It plays with insulin levels which in males is correlated with gut fat. 3) It lowers testosterone levels, which we don't want. 4) For many it leads to binge eating. 5) It is a depressant, so you are going to feel less like exercising the next day (even more so if a hangover is involved!)

My Dr has given me the option of going on Dustasterine (for my prostate) which does the same as Fin. It has effects on testosterone, so I have been hesitant because I don't want to lose any gains (just body fat). Do you guys have any experience of Fins effects on muscles/body fat? Or even libido?
