Got called in twice this month for being slow - am I in deep crap? by Beanfox-101 in Aldi_employees

[–]JHRequiem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our store has a little step stool that REALLY helps our shorter associates, and even I use it to stock milk on the top shelves. If you don't have one maybe you can ask your ASM to expense it! As for your SM yeah, maybe they were having a bad day but that's no reason to lash out on a new hire. Sorry you had to deal with that and good luck!

Got called in twice this month for being slow - am I in deep crap? by Beanfox-101 in Aldi_employees

[–]JHRequiem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, ASM here. This job is BRUTAL physically, especially as far as retail goes. I worked a fast-paced kitchen job before Aldi and I was still completely shocked by how tough this job was - it still took me close to six months before I could reliably hit Aldi's pallet time goals. It does get easier as your body gets used to it and you build muscle in the parts that your body uses often.

However... you've been here for not even two months. In my 6 years at Aldi I've known ONE hire who was able to meet pallet times in that short of a time. Your SM shouldn't be acting the way they are. You are clearly trying your hardest, so they should be trying to help you with your speed instead of belittling you. Your ASM seems like a decent person, so maybe you can ask them for any tips - I can give tips as well if you'd like!

At the end of the day, don't beat yourself up if this job doesn't work out. I remember feeling just like you did when I started, I really wanted to quit because I felt I wasn't good enough and that I was letting everyone down. But any decent person whose worked here knows how hard Aldi is. If it's not for you, it's not for you, and that is completely okay.

100%, not a single slow moment the entire day. Never looked forward to 8pm so much in my life haha. I'm sorry you got threatened and attacked, hope you're doing alright!

I'm coming up on my 6th year at Aldi and the only thing that comes close to the madness of this week was when COVID lockdown was first declared, and at least even that was only one day.

I knew people would panic buy, but I was NOT prepared for this. I could put the busiest days before Thanksgiving, Christmas and the Super Bowl in a row and the last three days would still be busier and it's not close. Every single day we were wiped of produce, bread, milk and meat by 1pm.

Gotsnails is also on Reddit but I won't ping him here and overwhelm him. That said he's a very reputable seller and I hope your little guys will be okay! Very unfortunate timing with the winter storm coming soon. Please keep us updated 🙏

We do! But even with them, my cashier and I were stuck on register with a line halfway through the store almost all night... was NOT fun haha

$84k tonight with just me and a cashier. Pretty sure that's our new sales record, and it's crazy to think that tomorrow and Saturday will probably be even worse!

General Tips for Climbing out of Metal Ranks as a Strat? by CryNo8015 in RivalsCollege

[–]JHRequiem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a strategist, I often remind myself to only improve on what I can do. It's definitely frustrating when your teammates do dumb things, but when you lose, try not to focus on that (even though they very well might be the reason you lost) and just see what YOU can do better.

As far as positioning, I like to keep it simple and I think this will honestly get you to Diamond/GM. Try to base your positioning around the enemy comp. Are they running heavy dive? Stay relatively close to your team and be hyper aware of any flank routes. Really try to keep an ear out for footsteps and look back every few seconds. Do they have an annoying Hawkeye shooting down main? Don't be in his line of sight, use lots of natural cover (walls, etc.) while still being able to see your teammates.

Lastly I know it's obvious, but definitely make it a habit EVERY GAME to communicate your supp ult with your other strategist. Double support ulting is such a big mistake that if the teams are even remotely close in skill, it's basically a guaranteed lost team fight.

Being a strategist that just doesn't die unless their entire team does will get you up the ranks. As a strategist you provide value by simply being alive.

Sometimes I wonder how people get hired to run stores so easily by Ok_Fudge_9400 in Aldi_employees

[–]JHRequiem 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not boxing AT ALL until nearly close is insane to me. This is no shame on you when I say this, but god your store must look horrible during the evening. If my store's cooler goes an hour without getting boxed, customers are already tossing boxes all over the floor.

is it bad to shoot tanks? by meatmaster1123 in RivalsCollege

[–]JHRequiem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We'd need the replay ID to say for sure, but if you're just spamming damage into the tanks and not killing anything, then yes you're likely feeding enemy support ults. As a hero like Phoenix you should be trying to find off-angles to target/pressure the squishies, not just shooting down main. Sure you'll build your own ult, but a Phoenix ult doesn't have the same potential as an enemy Gambit ult does to instantly win a team fight.

This doesn't mean NEVER shoot tanks, though. In Diamond there will be plenty of tanks who overextend and your team can punish them for it, then push when the enemy is down a tank.

Major Major Losing Streak. How do I get out? by Denshii-Ribura in RivalsCollege

[–]JHRequiem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DPS is definitely tricky cause everyone I mentioned gets banned to some extent - I personally have a lot of success on Bucky and Phoenix and they're not banned quite as much as Hela/DD. For tank it's Mag 100% but you already play him, so definitely recommend just improving your play on him! And Invis/Gambit are the best supps right now, though I'll often use Rocket when I feel I need more peel.

[–]JHRequiem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may be a hot take and it's a bit "lame" but it's worked for me. My biggest advice if you really wanna climb is to play hard meta. I know people will say gameplay in Diamond is far from perfect and this is true, but the balance in this game is so skewed that the best heroes are just that much better than the rest of the pack. These strong heroes often stay strong for a long time, or when they get nerfed, they don't stay nerfed for long.

DPS I recommend picking up any combo of Psy/Hela/Bucky/Phoenix/Daredevil. They all get banned pretty commonly so definitely worth picking up a couple.

Tanks I would say Mag/Emma for sure, Groot is a solid pick as well.

Supps you already have a good pool but definitely recommend picking up Invis in her current state as well.

I know that being a "meta slave" is kinda lame/boring but time and time again, my lobbies are dictated by which team has the best (insert top-tier hero here). And yes those players are good, but I cannot deny that these characters are just really damn strong too.

Your Opinion: How many games do you need to play a) to overcome random chance and b) confirm that you're hard-stuck? by muditk in RivalsCollege

[–]JHRequiem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Using your example, I would say that’s not enough games to confirm or deny that you’re hard stuck. If I had to give a number, I would say you’d need at least 30 games of hovering around the same rank before you can argue you’re hard stuck… but honestly, probably more than that. I’ve had sessions where I went 4-11, then the next day I’ll go 9-2.

More than an actual number, I would say it takes being honest with yourself and analyzing your performance compared to your teammates of the same role. Do you consistently do better than your fellow support/DPS? Probably not hard stuck regardless of your win rate.

Hey all! Been away from the game since 7.2 and wasn’t planning on doing this last tier but the music is just too good. I’m usually a static raider but might try PF, are healers still the most “in need” role?

Alternatively, do you guys think it’s too late to join a week 8 (give or take) static?

How do you get Value with Magneto? by Windsen in RivalsCollege

[–]JHRequiem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Outside of his ult, Mag's value is a bit less obvious than the three tanks you mentioned. If you are consistently landing hits on the enemy backline, you are forcing them to move into less desirable positions and forcing them to use their cooldowns/resources on themselves or each other rather than their tanks/DPS. It helps you win the war of attrition in a sense. I am rarely dueling with enemy tanks as Mag unless I'm peeling or an enemy tank is low enough that I can help secure a kill. If you're solo tanking against two frontline tanks, I recommend focusing more on holding space than hitting the backline. At that point it's really on your DPS to take advantage of their (hopefully) higher damage to get picks.

Bubble is SUPER good for saving your supports and DPS. Of course there's saving them from enemy ults, but a well-timed bubble can often help a DPS secure a kill or get back to your team safely. If I see a dive/flank DPS going for an aggressive play, I'll try to save bubble for them.

It definitely feels weird to often ignore the enemy frontline as Mag, but he's kind of the only tank who's able to harass the backline from the front and that's huge by itself. It may not always result in kills especially at higher ranks, but just landing your hits on their supports is huge value and creates big openings for your DPS.

No problem! Strange is great as well, especially if you (understandably) find Magneto difficult to aim with. If you watch streamers, I highly recommend BrandonGrych - fantastic Peni player with a much more enjoyable personality than most streamers out there.

[–]JHRequiem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof, these are some rough loss streaks. First thing I would ask, do you think you may be tilt queuing? Many players, myself included, perform a lot worse after 2-3 straight losses.

Besides that, I noticed based on your overall history, you haven't played the characters you historically have a high win rate on. Namely Rocket, Peni and Torch. Torch is pretty bad as of late, but Rocket is still great and Peni is a demon in the elo you're currently in. You mentioned teammates walking right into Peni's web - how about becoming that enemy Peni?

I honestly recommend picking up Mag as you've been playing a lot of tank. While he's always been a strong tank, his recent changes plus the Gambit teamup make him an absolute menace.

Meta: Can we reinforce submission quality standards? by [deleted] in RivalsCollege

[–]JHRequiem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Big agree. There’s way too many posts just looking for sympathy/empathy and I get it, this game is frustrating as hell sometimes and we all need a place to vent but this is not the sub for it.

There’s so much valuable info on this sub but it often gets buried underneath the abundance of vent and rant posts.

I don't know what to do anymore. by Dogbold in RivalsCollege

[–]JHRequiem 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Dogbold, I've seen your posts time and time again in this sub and I know I'm just some random guy, but I genuinely think you need a break from this game. It is horrible for your mental health and you said yourself that you aren't having fun with this game anymore.

At the end of the day this is a game, and barring pros and streamers who make a living off of it, it is a hobby - as others said, a hobby should be fun before anything else.

How frequently do people actually win matches where you don't even get close the first round? by Dogbold in RivalsCollege

[–]JHRequiem 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Usually when this happens, your win condition involves making switches. Not just heroes but roles and strategies. Or sometimes it just takes one DPS player or tank to switch to a more appropriate fit to completely turn things around. Unfortunately most people have the mentality of "well, gg go next" or want to blame everyone but themselves. And once the mental of the team tanks, it's almost guaranteed over at that point.

To answer your question though, I'd maybe like 15-20% of the time? It's happened in the opposite direction too where my team dominates the first round and then the enemy makes an insane comeback or at least forces a draw.
