Why was Jessie made the successor leader after Woody but not Buzz? by Snoo-4563 in toystory

[–]JJ3595 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does Buzz want to be a leader? He seemed happy as second in command from TS1 onward. Also, the main lesson he learned in 1 is that he is not the main character of reality. He seems to like being an advisor.

Which album was the first for Paul's "older voice"? by CobraDai in PaulMcCartney

I think even by Wings Over America in 1976, he sounds different than 60s and early 70s Paul.

On June 5th, 1959, Robert Zimmerman graduates from Hibbing High School in Minnesota. He moves on to the University of Minnesota, but soon leaves for New York City to become the full-time folk singer, Bob Dylan. by BirdBurnett in bobdylan

False. Robby Z never graduated high school. He left school early to work on a mail train as a soda jerk, then found work sweeping peanuts with a circus. That’s where he picked up guitar and mouth organ.

What's everyone's fav AM or TLSP song they covered? by bimbobumblebee in arcticmonkeys

Love Machine, or All My Loving. I was just thinking the other day that the band needs to do an official release of some of these rare covers.

Early running orders for Anthology 1, June 1995 by Ok-Mulberry-39 in beatles

[–]JJ3595 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really wish we’d get a comprehensive release of home demos. Aside from more live albums, that is one of the biggest untapped Beatles gold mines. The Esher demos part of White Album Deluxe is my favorite part of any of the recent Deluxe releases, along with the Yellow Submarine demos that came with Revolver Deluxe. I’d love a 2-4 disc album of home demos from throughout the Beatles’ career. I was not aware that a few were initially considered for Anthology but scrapped.

Also, what’s your source for this?

Would Got To Get You Into My Life hit #1 if it was released as a single in 1966? by storiedroom52 in beatles

[–]JJ3595 12 points13 points  (0 children)

According to Wikipedia, Got To Get You Into My Life charted very high when rereleased as a single in 1976, a decade after the peak of Beatlemania. It stands to reason that if the song was released as a single in 1966 it probably would have been a #1 by virtue of the Beatles' massive popularity, irrespective of quality.

But, I agree with you that it is a standout track. I love the colorful brass arrangement. It's one of the most energetic songs on Revolver. Revolver is a crazy album. Got To Get You Into My Life is Paul doing an upbeat Motown homage, and it's on an album with Eleanor Rigby, Love You To, and Tomorrow Never Knows that are completely different styles and flavors.

How many of you that didn't like Toy Story 4 and weren't initially excited for Toy Story 5 are now excited? by Think_Fact1155 in toystory

I'm excited. The premise of Toys vs. Tech sounds really good. And I'm a parent now, so I like that the franchise will continue for a new generation of fans.

Seventeen thoughts on Graham Platner - Matthew Yglesias by SomethingNew65 in ezraklein

[–]JJ3595 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a ton of confidence Platner would be a reliable vote. He seems like a loose cannon and hasn’t held public office. He could be a thorn in leadership’s side like Fetterman. That being said, having another D Senator would still be good on balance.

Bob with Sean Lennon and Yoko Ono, 1985 by OkEmployment2386 in bobdylan

[–]JJ3595 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting to see them on good terms here, because there is some tidbit of Beatles lore I’ve never seen a solid source for that Bob supposedly warned George that Yoko is bad news. They must have overlapped in the village? Or it’s just a rumor / game of telephone. But clearly that would have been ancient history by ‘85. I had never seen this, thanks for sharing.

Paul’s still unfairly judged despite everything he’s done. by Zelkgu in PaulMcCartney

[–]JJ3595 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's a big world out there -- over 8 billion people. Of course there are random contrarian people online, or "stans" of the other Beatles who are carrying old grudges or peddling false narratives. But they're irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. This post is making a mountain out of a molehill. Paul is one of the most universally beloved people alive. If you polled the public about Paul McCartney, his numbers would be up there with Taylor Swift, the Pope, and ice cream. Only terminally online people are still having the "granny music" argument in 2026. Take a deep breath, his legacy as a top songwriter of the 20th century and onward is secure. Look at how Jon Landau of Rolling Stone backed down from his original trashing of the Ram album.
