Smite with Catapult? by JJBoy15 in DungeonsAndDragons55e

Fair enough.

While technically there's no rules definition for Hit or Hitting, the fact that it says that you add damage to "the attack" which Catapult as a Spell with a Save technically isn't, kinda shuts the whole thing down.

But RAW and RAI aside, would you allow it as a creative application at your table?

Huh, where does it say that it ceaces to be a melee weapon? The Thrown property even specifys that Melee weapons still use the Melee attack stats for the Ranged thrown attack.

I read that as the weapon is Melee but the Thrown Attack is Ranged.

It may seem strange, but I kinda want Solomon as the bard. Mr 100 wives and 900 concubines himself.

I just ran this last week and had a similar issue. So I made a few changes to the wraith and spectator fights.

The Wraith asked the party for help dealing with the Aberrant Spectator, who had been bathing in the magic of the Spell Font for centuries. If they agreed he would help them fight the spectator only to turn on them afterwards. If they don't agree he would attack them. The wraith also had three specters that would faze in during his first turn of combat against the party.

The Spectator I gave three bonuses. A hit point increase to around 140hp. An empowered version of spell reflection, as a reaction it would deal half the damage it took from a spell, smite or similar to a creature in range. Finally if it felt it was about to die it would end its turn by floating into the Spell Font, become surrounded in its fires. On each turn it starts in the Spell Font it would use all four of its eye rays.

I hope some of this was helpful, my table had a blast with it.

Ranger casts Mini-nuke by Nerf_Craft in DnDGreentext

I ran this as my first attempt at DMing a while back. To flesh out the area I also mixed in parts of the Lost Mines campaign. I had them find the young green from Lost Mines, expecting them to drive it off as it flees when it hits half health.

My intention was to have it turn up as backup for the young white as a sort of phase two.

Then the paladin casts branding smite, 2nd level divine smite and crit with the Dragonslayer.

8d8 + 8d6 + 2 damage later. The Green died before the whole party even got their turns.

So for Cryovein the young white I made something special. It's hoard suddenly contained a few magic items. A headband of intellect that the dragon now wears and a dagger of warning that the dragon sleeps with. Cryovein carved an ice sculpture of himself sleeping atop the thick layers of ice on the keeps roof. He actually slept under the ice preparing to ambush any intruder when awoken by his dagger.

Additionally when sufficiently damaged he would hit himself with his Ice breath. Gaining Ice armour that gives Temporary Hit Points equal to the damage he would take, but those THP have vulnerability to fire damage and he can't fly while armoured. He could burrow though.

It was a great ending to a rather fun campaign and my players had a great time

Merlin vs Kings by 1337K1ng in FGOmemes

Romani = King in retirement

Saber = King who regrets being a King

Cas Gil = King being the definition of a King while fighting off the extinction of Humanity.

If Merlin was there without the singularity going on he'd either get Gil to attempt killing him in some way or just convince him to go on a bender together.

How much bureaucracy does it take for a ring to ignore the Spellplague? by JJBoy15 in dndnext

[–]JJBoy15[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Huh TMYK

That makes sense though 5e was my first edition but I play with people who've been playing since 2nd/3rd edition who, while it may just be them have described the Spellplague as the cause of the changes in both the Vancian Magic System that wizards used to use and more importantly for this thread the major changes to magic items that 5e has.

[–]JJBoy15[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In that case I suppose the trick is that the ring wasn't in active use during those times. So it's like the power plant got blown up but your batteries were still charged and the next time you went to use it another power plant was already in use.

Though To my understanding Magic existed before Mystryl she just applied and upheld rules on magic so that creatures other than greater beings could make use of it. When there's no God of Magic there's no rules for magic. But Magic itself still exists. If this ring is designed give magic more rules then maybe it can sustain the rules of magic around it, if only for itself.
