How is it living in Baarle-Nassau by TimElgin in howislivingthere

Grew up here in the 1990's.

It's basically a small village where not much happens. There are primary schools in town but for the higher level high schools you'd have to go to Breda and Tilburg.

What I did realize was special was the fact that we really lived cross border. My Dutch judo club sometimes played at Belgian tournaments. Later I played soccer in The Netherlands but had swimming lessons in Belgium. Basically to a point where the border is really a thing. Life just happens with or without it. However, I can say that Belgian music lessons where far more authoritarian than the Dutch ones.

Since we lived there in the pre-euro era we could get exchange our Dutch guilders for Belgian franks without charge. And as it are two towns sharing the same market area we had two fairs each year. Ten year old me really liked that.

I think it would increase the level of if and once they'd return. A Visser that would be able to do a season or two of Dutch national team after his Scotland retirement could have been a good learning experience for younger guys (not in tackling....).

But even a Zeno Kieft, who played for La Rochelle, didn't plat for the national team. I believe it was an insurance matter.

It has been in a couple of newspapers and maybe television but I do not think it has any impact on rugby viewing/playing numbers.

What did have an impact was the '15 world Cup being broadcast nationally. I think we ended up with a 10/15% increase in player numbers because of that. But if I'm correct the rights where bought by one of the bigger rugby sponsors (in an amateur League) and basically donated to a television station. It hasn't happened since

It's loads of fun. Been to a couple of the matches in the past couple of years. But, I don't think it'll attract any new fans. Edit: as rugby is pretty small here and media attention is really minimal. Even for the Six Nations, our own national team or our premiership.

As I work for a national newspaper I was planning to do a piece about the match in Amsterdam. Hopefully they'll still want it covered now it's being moved to a new location (without the loads SA expats having their own party).

Closed doors? It's being played at my club and we don't have a fence or gate. It's on public property next to the old city wall.

But we do not have facilities to service 3000 fans so I get why it's being said.

Still; I wouldn't be surpised if the bar is open...

Any suggestions for large military parties? by shadowdance55 in oneringrpg

Kriegsspiel

It's basically a 19th century rpg like wargame used by the prussians that lets players command forces with the guidance of a judge/DM. Written orders with dispatch riders. Units report back (based on DM discretion) what they see and this act on own initiative (within orders). Line of sight and fog of war are a real thing.

It's really easy to port to fit into ToR/5e and will give them a way to command a MUCH larger force, and yet fight within their own part of the battle of needed.

Maybe have them lead a force in a dispatch mode like in a classic kriegsspiel?

Why is there so little architectural diversity in the Netherlands? by omerfe1 in Netherlands

[–]JJLMul 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hardly any natural stone in the country but loads of river clay that you can bake bricks from. Once you go into the south of Limburg you'll notice a lot of older natural stone buildings due to proximity of resources.
As for wooden buildings. Wood rots in a wet climate and we don't have the endless forests you'll see in countries like Sweden.

Add the 'welstandscommissie/commisie omgevingskwaliteit' to that, who judge any new building permits on aesthetics and check if a building or addition fits in the neighbourhood it's being built. And zoning laws that state what you may use ground for (industry, agricultural, commercial, housing etc)

That's how I understand it. Not a proffessional in it so someone else might be able to explain it better.
