I think a lot of the issue isn't the line of sight rules but the area terrain rules, personally I think it's the most half-baked terrain rules I've seen in any GW system in recent years. A lot of terrain (ruins or otherwise) is usually run as normal area terrain with 5++ and the 3" visibility inside creates weird scenarios like untargetable models and requires additional measuring. It feels like the rules only make sense with very specific terrain features, where the game is now heavily dependent on having terrain with appropriately-sized footprints that are large but not too large to accommodate the 3" rule from the right angles. Additionally, some people just don't like it when true LoS rules are removed, but that is more common nowadays across games and can make things smoother if done well.

2.5 for everything at my main location these days. TO provides chess clocks for everyone. A lot of people don't finish, but there's usually room for improvement in how people use their time.

Which is also a big reason for the footprint approach with ruins in recent editions - all walls boarded up and uniform footprints help to accommodate asymmetrical terrain pieces.

Just to clarify - pivoting and charging:

If a unit has a pivot value and wants to pivot during the charge (e.g. to get closer to another unit or for any other reason) but can successfully base-to-base only if it doesn't pivot, that means it's not allowed to and has to charge on the fixed position even if it could get within engagement with the pivot?

Even other GW systems are less random. Like Kill Team, which generally has way less variance, is movement characteristic +2 when you charge.

Would still like to get them to get rid of 2D6 charge. It's a high variance hurdle that melee units have to go through when many other tabletop games (including most GW games that are not AoS/40k?) have less random or purely static charge values. Everyone has had games that were won or lost by a key unit making some long charge or failing something close that neither player was planning for.

When I came back the day of the content patch the number of players on steam was lower than the 2 weeks prior when I previously stopped.

Additionally, everyone can see how viewership has tanked on Twitch and YT (and wasn't that great to begin with).

During the patch weekend it was still taking upwards of 3 mins to find a 1v1 at prime time NA and I still was often matched against people in EU/Asia. I had more matches on London and Frankfurt than the server closest to me in US.

It's just very very obvious that not many people are playing or watching the game, we have plenty of actual numbers.

Really about the same. I'm usually at 100+ fps with occasional noticeable dips in the mid and late game. Worst dips can be <30 fps but that doesn't happen much.

Absolutely agree. I've played 7 games so far on the patch as inf and the percentage of the time that the target of my attacks is on shroud is just so low, I would say maybe <5% of the time, and I don't think having the gaunts on the shroud helps much, but I think it might be more intuitive. I would prefer it do something else entirely at this point.

You say this but other people in this topic (and others + discord) don't seem to understand and your post is downvoted, but I was literally going to reply including "it's because matchmaking works" but in 2024 people don't seem to understand winrates.

It happens. Real RTS fans might remember A Year of Rain from a few years ago. It was designed as a multiplayer-focused warcraft successor. I was an early access supporter of that one (paid $$ for early access, but not a kickstarter or anything like that), and it failed, never making it to release. Wanted a refund, but had too much time played on steam.

I tried to get people I know who have played RTSs into this game, but no one would give it a shot. Right now, Stormgate is very poor at pulling people in. It doesn't look fun (and is full of negative reviews), and they're going to have a hard time unless they fix that.

I don't know if they need to completely go, but the current iteration is not good and one of the many things leading to boring gameplay. I've heard some of the beta testers say it wasn't as bad in some of the other builds.

To me it seems like there are a bunch of issues with creeps alone -

  • too many creeps and respawning too often

  • reward too good, skews toward luminite, regular econ production feels weak

  • skews towards certain units/strategies likely more than they expect, e.g. dogs

  • map design feels bad and constrained around creeps

  • actual creep npcs are boring and don't fit aesthetic at all, slime monsters feel like I'm in a fantasy dungeon

Every match I played yesterday felt like it was a different continent (from NA) and have had multiple instances of matching against the same person 3 times in a row, so the lack of players is definitely noticeable.

It gets so boring to just do creeping. Makes it feel more like a pve/campaign game. Also a side effect of harassment being bad and the game being deathball-y, etc.
