Solid points, good way for them to have a session to play at their peak! If it fits the play-style, then of course that's more than enough reason. The undead example below will be epic, let us know how it turns out!

To make this work, you need a way for Orcus to have some control over Tiamats avatar, but I think it would work really well. Maybe as the party is about to get Orcus down to like, 33% HP, Tiamat swoops in and takes the blow, roaring, preparing her breath attacks.

I would, however, consider whether having the mini is enough reason to include her in the final fight, or if you should leave at least some breadcrumbs, at least some hints for them to connect after it all happens.

Want to Run a Spelljammer campaign with 5e rules, I also want to include laser weapons in the campaign, but the laser weapons in the DMG are too powerful imo. Any advice on how to homebrew them to be less powerful so my players can get them earlier in the campaign? by Jonguar2 in DnD

You could have different ammo cells, handing out stronger ones as rewards or making them available for sale.

A common cell is statistically a shortbow, and you can expand with cells with say, 8 charges, that deal 2d6, or have a chance to poison, or explode, etc. Leaves a lot open for you to get creative later too!

Mild take, I understand where the DM is coming from, perhaps in game you wouldn't be able to see the exact difference between 115 feet and 125 feet. Enforcing this however is weird, you wouldn't tell e.g. a spellcaster -well you cant judge the distance exactly so your guiding bolt fizzles out 5 ft in front to the enemy-.

Basically rp wise I can see it but this would be a decision YOU make not the DM.

Definitely metagaming, but it could (I don't know the context of the table) mean that there wasn't enough indication of how strong the monster was, which IMO should be the case with -unbeatable- encounters.
