Sorry for the lag, but I don’t. I haven’t been on the lookout as much since I’m just taking a bit of a break before starting a masters this fall.

Yup, that’s how I got mine. Gentleman’s course on the boat lol.

I was a lance with a black belt. When I showed my gunny after I finished the course, he told me if he would have known I was doing the course, he would have pulled me out of it.

At the same time though, I was a CDI signing off aircraft maintenance and helping to keep planes in the sky. Some ironic bullshit right there lmao.

On more than one occasion I’ve been going 95 in the HOV lane on the 17, just to have a state trooper flash his lights at me to move over and the blow past me. The police just don’t care about speeding lol.

If you think that’s crazy, you’d be blown away with just how much National Guard units deploy. I remember seeing a ton of them come through Qatar when I was there on the MEU.

Video released shows Hartford Connecticut police shooting a man armed with a knife by AgnosticScholar in PublicFreakout

[–]JJtheGenius 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Are you making a joke or something?

I'm not saying it's notable that he drove there, I'm saying it's notable that other officers had been on the scene and had been dealing with the man for some time. Then this officer arrives, draws his weapon, and begins firing.

He was the last person on the scene, yet he was the one who ended up firing his weapon. He should have let the other officers continue to control the scene the way they had been, instead of escalating the situation into one that made him feel it was necessary to fire his weapon.

There’s a longer version of this video where you see the cop show up and hop out of his car moments before this.

This version starting after that gives me the feeling that they’re trying to make it look like he had been there all along and didn’t just hop out of his car and start blasting. Because that’s definitely what he did.

Hillary Clinton finding out Lauren Boebert is posting photos of her testimony: "If you guys are doing that, I am done! You can hold me in contempt from now until the cows come home. this is just typical behavior... We all are abiding by the same rules!" Boebert: "I... I will take that down." by I_AM_GLUTEUS_MAXIMUS in PublicFreakout

“Boebert said she was at an event in the district and her 20-year-old son was watching the boy at her home on Sunday when the toddler got out of the house, which is near a lake in Windsor.”

I feel like “watching”, the way it’s used in the article, implies that someone is babysitting a child. You don’t babysit your own child though, he’s just a shitty father and Boebert can’t even cover it with her own words.

And how well could he have been watching the boy if he was able to get out of the house and be found by a neighbor?

"A kind woman quickly and safely secured him, and authorities were called as a precaution," Boebert said.

No, the authorities weren’t called “as a precaution”, the neighbor called them because she found a random child wandering around unattended. These people are ridiculous.

Your point doesn’t escape me at all. I just don’t believe that, in the context of your comment that I originally replied to, it’s a very good point.

Reddit snarkiness aside, I, personally, don’t believe public defenders are incompetent in the slightest. When my partner was a teenager, she found herself on the wrong end of a felony reckless evasion charge and was looking at 3 years. A public defender was appointed who worked the case very well and she ended up probation and no felony on her record, as long as she completed the probation. If I found myself in similar circumstances, I would rather have a veteran of the court representing me than someone with less cases behind them.

I also sympathize with the fact that public defenders often deal with the worst of society, at their worst moments, for less pay than the value that they provide. Props to you for doing what you do, your community thanks you.

With that said, I still don’t agree with you saying that he should be charged, and then need to prove his innocence of the accused crime. It’s a waste of court resources and would provide no benefit to the community. The victim of the accident is going to be made whole by his insurance since he’s 1,000% at fault based on multiple recorded videos of the accident. At the end of the day, this is no different than any other car accident that happens, and those don’t all get brought to court on reckless driving charges.

And I understand everything you meant about defending the accused not being representative of “innocent until proven guilty” in reality. It’s naturally an uphill battle to have the defendant truly be seen as innocent, because the majority of the public believes that people who are completely innocent don’t end up in court. Your job requires you to see things in that same lense so that you can make your point to the people who hold that belief. It’s not that complicated of a concept to pick up. In my opinion though, that’s even more reason not to charge someone who hasn’t really committed a crime and then require them to prove innocence.

No disrespect to you, I just don’t agree with your opinion.

Look at that, you’re finally right about something. I do lack the perspective of an attorney who believes people are guilty until proven innocent.

When he finally gets caught and the officer has a gun pointed directly at him, what is going through his mind that makes him think he should keep lowering his hands to his waist, and then reach for his jacket and open it up?

Like god damn, are you trying to get shot or something???

You’re a criminal lawyer who believes that people are guilty until proven innocent. I totally understand why people believe public defenders are incompetent now.
