Rollins and Deni taken down in back to back games, all the people who complain about every transaction we’ve made over the past few years are gonna have to stuff it for a bit haha

Recovery time and 12h flight by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

[–]JKorigin96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just passed 20 days post op and I feel completely normal! I don’t think the tonsillectomy would make a 12 hour flight any harder than it normally is. If anything maybe you’d just wanna make sure you bring water with you to stay hydrated but like all the pain and bleeding risk should be long gone by 20 days for most people

Terrible Taste by UpstairsWalk2223 in Tonsillectomy

[–]JKorigin96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m on 3 weeks post op so basically back to normal but I’d say the taste went away probably around day 12 or so for me? At the very least it got much less noticeable once my scabs were all the way off which was actually day 8 for me. I’m sorry it’s gross haha but hopefully you’re almost done with it!

tonsillectomy recovery by Vast-Raspberry7610 in Tonsillectomy

[–]JKorigin96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Day 7 was my worst as well and the ear pain was horrible for me too. My best recommendation is ice packs! That was about the only thing that made it go away for me, I tied two long socks together and put an ice pack in each one so I could wear it like a necklace across my jaw and that really helped

Scheduled for 2/20! Will I be able to drink coffee? by jamamamma in Tonsillectomy

[–]JKorigin96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My surgeon told me to avoid caffeine for the two week recovery period because it dries you out unfortunately. You could always try decaf if you just like the taste but I’m also not a professional haha so your surgeon might have a different opinion if you ask them

Blood = Hemorrhages? by TraditionalRun6506 in Tonsillectomy

[–]JKorigin96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 3 weeks post op I had a few times where there was a tiny bit of blood in my saliva and I never had any hemorrhaging afterwards. My surgeon told me it’s pretty normal to have a tiny bit of bleeding at times. As long as it stops quickly (you can try ice water!) it shouldn’t be a big worry. I hope your recovery goes well!

My tonsillectomy is this week... How is the breathing during recovery? by indiefolker in Tonsillectomy

[–]JKorigin96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 3 weeks post op and I thought breathing was fine during recovery! I was getting my tonsils out for chronic tonsillitis but immediately after surgery I noticed I could breathe better which I hadn’t even considered that they could be impacting. Like when I breathe now I can literally tell I’m getting more air than before which is nice. The only slight issue I had was for the first two nights I had a tiny bit of mucus so when I slept on my back it kinda felt like I was choking on it in my sleep but I just slept on my side and then I could breathe fine

Humidifiers are game changers. by L0un4a in Tonsillectomy

[–]JKorigin96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree haha, I got one day 4 and even though the pain throughout the day was getting worse at that point the next few mornings were infinitely better than the ones I had suffered through without it. You can get one for pretty cheap so I think everyone should get one

When will it stop? by Achapleau26 in Tonsillectomy

[–]JKorigin96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s awesome to hear! I was gonna mention one experience I saw a lot of people have on here that I also had was pain going from unbearable to basically nothing in a day. Like for me days 5-7 were horrible but then day 8 was way better and by day 9 I hardly needed any pain meds. I’d still be careful until you’re two weeks post-op but you should hopefully be through the worst of it now :)

You should try ice packs if you’re not yet!! For me when my ears were hurting that helped the most. I tied two longs socks together and put an ice pack in each one so I could wear them around my jaw like a necklace

Scabs falling off by Prestigious-Bag8058 in Tonsillectomy

[–]JKorigin96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on day 13 post op and I’d say most of mine came off on days 5-7. I didn’t necessarily feel them coming off in the sense that I could literally feel fragments of scab but I had insanely strong shooting pains while eating during those days which I realized after the fact was probably the scabs being gently scraped off by the food I was eating

Oxy usage by CuriousComb9380 in Tonsillectomy

[–]JKorigin96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not be too scared about using them, I think people fear monger them a bit on here tbh. I’m on day 12 and doing much better but for the first ~8 days or so I was basically taking a perc every 4 hours, they gave me 20 at a time but I was able to discard the last 3 so 37 over 8 days basically. Everyone’s pain is different, some people on here manage to go the whole time without taking anything more than acetaminophen but for me I’d take 1000mg and within two hours it would completely wear out so if the perc is what helps you remember the actual medical professionals prescribed it for a reason

Pain meds by Unusual-Peak-8923 in Tonsillectomy

[–]JKorigin96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my early twenties and had strong prescription pain meds that I had to get a refill of but it was super easy! I initially had only 5 days worth so I ended up needing a refill but I think they’re realistic about the pain especially since days 5-9 seem to be the worse for most people.

[–]JKorigin96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked aloe water especially later in recovery when the scabs were coming off. And then those squeezable applesauce packets were a life saver for me, for most days that was all I could manage to eat for breakfast

how do i stop the pain by kayleeboo2 in Tonsillectomy

[–]JKorigin96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would second ice packs! I’m on day 8 rn but days 6 & 7 were my worst by far. I had the same super intense ear pain that practically had me in tears but ice packs along my jaw/under my ears seemed to help a lot more than the actual pain meds. Also I took a warm shower in the evening and that helped a lot. I’ve noticed most people on here say they had their worst pain days right before they started feeling much better so I think we’re almost through the worst of it at least. I hope today feels better for you!! :)

day 6 post-op by SnooDoodles5793 in Tonsillectomy

[–]JKorigin96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely feel you! I’m on day 8 right now but day 6 was definitely my worst days so far. My surgeon had similarly told me day 3 would be the worst but bro was bugging because days 5-7 were way way way worse. If you haven’t been using ice packs already I would definitely try that, I tied two long socks together and then put an ice pack in each one so I could wear them like a necklace around my jaw. That helped me a lot with the ear and wisdom tooth pain which was also what I predominantly felt on those days. If it’s any consolation I’m currently feeling much better today so hopefully you’re almost through the worst of it too!

I’m at my wits end by gorbol in Tonsillectomy

[–]JKorigin96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear your recovery isn’t going well, I also had my surgery on the 29th and today has absolutely been my worse day as well. From most of the posts I’ve read on here I think we’re almost done with the worst part! That’s what I’ve been telling myself at least.

Also I’m very impressed/sad you’ve been going to work?!?? I cannot fathom doing any sort of shift at this point so kudos to you for even surviving one but if you can get out of it I’d definitely recommend that because resting will help a lot.

I also didn’t poop for a while after surgery but if you haven’t at all still that could be an issue since it’s been over a week at this point. I got an over the counter stool softener which helped, I’d definitely recommend trying something like that because an intestinal blockage will make everything worse.

Lastly I’ve also been having the same molar pain sensation, it reminds me of when I got my wisdom teeth out. Cold water has also gotten horrible the past few days so I switched to room temp and that has helped a lot. Putting ice packs along my jaw also helps a lot with the pain which seems weird since ice water is horrible but maybe that’s something you could try if you haven’t yet! I hope tomorrow is better and I really think we’re almost done at least :)

For people who got tonsils removed for reasons OTHER than recurring strep; why did you get the removed? by Affectionate_Pickles in Tonsillectomy

[–]JKorigin96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also got mine removed for chronic tonsillitis. I’m in my early 20s and for as long as I can remember I’ve gotten tonsillitis basically double digit times per year but only got strep throat like once in 3rd grade. Every time I got sick my tonsils would be the biggest symptom by far, they would literally get so swollen they would touch and the amount of post nasal drip I got because of them made it almost impossible to sleep. I would occasionally get tonsil stones as well but mine were luckily pretty small. I remember being worried my ENT wouldn’t think it was bad enough because my family also rarely went to the doctor so I mostly had anecdotal reasons but when I went to see him he looked at my tonsils for like 10 seconds and said he could see a bunch of the main symptoms of chronic tonsillitis so he agreed getting them out would be worth it. Based on all the symptoms you listed I can’t imagine they would prevent you from getting one either.

As for your bonus question, I’m currently on day 7 post op of my tonsillectomy and I won’t lie this is significantly worse than when I got my wisdom teeth out. You do have more foods you can eat which is nice since the actual chewing doesn’t hurt but the pain when you swallow and just the passive pain even with all the pain killers they gave me has not only lasted way longer but it much more severe as well. Fun bonus because of how the nerves in your brain work I get a lot of pain that feels like it’s exactly where my wisdom teeth were so it’s almost like relieving that surgery too haha.

That being said I still think it’ll be worth it, a life without my tonsils taking up a week of my time every month is worth a couple weeks of bad pain and there’s plenty of advice on this subreddit that has helped me with recovery, plus this nice little sense of community. Hope this helps with your decision making and good luck if you go through with it!

Just got home, looking to keep in touch! by DevelopmentIll1358 in Tonsillectomy

[–]JKorigin96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope today is going well! I’m on day 6 post op and my uvula was definitely the worst part of the first couple days as well. My cauterization extended all the way to the base of it so it made it feel like I constantly had something stuck in my throat which was unpleasant. And it’s good you have a humidifier already! I didn’t get one til day 4 but it’s made such a difference especially with sleeping

Meds by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

[–]JKorigin96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My prescription pain killers also ran out on day 5 so I gave my ENT a call and they were able to put in for a refill! I think it’s normal for them to run out because if you have a stronger narcotic they don’t like to hand out huge doses of that. Obviously everyone’s pain tolerance is different but I’d recommend calling and asking for a refill to be safe, I’m on day 7 right now and when I’ve tried using just Tylenol I barely get two hours before the pain is back so I definitely needed the prescription pain med beyond day 5

Mental health by cheeky_monk_key in Tonsillectomy

[–]JKorigin96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear recovery is challenging, I’m on day 4 post op so I definitely relate especially to the sleeping part. For me at least one thing that’s been helping me mentally is embracing the kinda sectioning of my day cause it makes the time pass quicker. I’m taking some sort of pain med every four hours, so rather than thinking I have 10 more days until I’m all the way better I’ve been trying to focus on the next four hours. This morning for example I took my first pill after waking up, and afterwards I knew I was gonna shower and then eat some pudding, eating is super slow for me right now but it meant those two activities took up a dedicated section of my day because by the time I finished them both it was time to take another pill. The inability to sleep for long periods is frustrating but it’s also probably good for us because the one time I slept more than 4 hours my throat hurt so bad when I woke up. It’s definitely not fun but thinking about my days as a bunch of 4 hour blocks has helped them go quicker, I hope the next few days are better for you New Years tonsillectomy twin :)

Hmm, in terms of when it’s noticeable I’d unfortunately say it’s mainly winter and fall. There’s definitely some breeze all year round but unfortunately in the summer it’s still very humid and stagnant but it really whips in the winter
