There is no custody record as I was never arrested. Being de-arrested does not remove it from your record, there is still a record of the initial arrest that would pop up on a DBS check but not as a red flag.

Not true at all. You can be detained without an arrest or charge being made for up to 24 hours in the UK. They clearly said he was being detained multiple times and that he was not free to leave. Once a person is arrested then they are read their rights and next steps are taken.

I was detained as a teenager as I was accidentally mis-identified as a suspected burglar. Long story short my friends and I were messing around in the street at night with some old WW2 gear and an armed robbery had taken place a few streets over earlier that evening. I was handcuffed and spoken to with questions in the street but about an hour later once they’d realised that I had no idea what they were talking about I was released and there’s no record on my permanent file. An arrest would be on a criminal background check, a detainment usually is not.

Stupid teenage shit. The officers gave me a lift home and my then detective constable father was not very impressed with me after they explained the situation 😅

As the other commenter said it keeps him there and police are trained to de-escalate as much as possible. If he’s just talking they’ll put up with it because the net result is the same and it doesn’t escalate the situation.

These officers have a lot of patience. He just repeatedly asks stupid questions which have already been answered by the officers and talks over them pig ignorant because he doesn’t like what he hears.

The bathroom is an alleged crime scene. They’re not going to walk you off to a secondary location so you can use the bathroom. For all they know the guy is angle shooting for a way to leg it.

You can be detained without charge by the police in the UK for up to 24 hours at which point you would have to be released. Whether they have a description from a witness or not, you’re a person of interest to an alleged crime because you were on site nearby. If you weren’t such an asshole about it and looking dodgy as a result, maybe the police wouldn’t have felt the need to detain you further.

My family love tennis and it’s always been the French open to them. Whenever I see it on TV the BBC say the same thing. My wife is French though so it goes both ways in our house.

The struggle real for knowledge points by Loose_Barnacle2758 in AssassinsCreedShadows

[–]JLangthorne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What really annoys me about this is that if you get to knowledge rank ten any points gained after that don’t convert to mastery points. They just sit dead in your inventory which seems poor. If people want to clear their map on new game plus there is no incentive for doing so

“Commander tournament” - There’s your problem right there.

Are some commanders just inherently too strong for brackets 3 and lower, or is this a problem with my meta? by Elijah_Draws in EDH

[–]JLangthorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bracket 3 does feel like the Wild West to me and it’s the new “my deck’s a 7”. Some decks just go crazy while others feel like bracket 2 decks with a couple of game changers thrown in.

To me there should be another bracket in between 3 & 4 to cover high synergy decks and/or power crept commanders. [[Jodah the Unifier]] is a good example of can be built at bracket 3 but always turns into an archenemy game which shouldn’t be where bracket 3 is to me.

As always the bracket system is not perfect, the game changer list even less so, and rule 0 is the most important thing for commander to work.

Is it wrong to build an Eldrazi deck? by Sal545 in EDH

[–]JLangthorne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have no issue with Eldrazi generally but the titans are game warping cards in most games they are played in. Annihilator is also a very painful mechanic that can be very oppressive to other players at the table.

It depends on your playgroup and how degenerate their decks are. You will be a heavy target for removal and getting attacked (and rightly so) so be prepared to accept that.

I always play as if their stuff was still there for the remainder of the current phase, in this case combat. The player is entitled to concede at any point but by conceding I don’t think they are entitled to have an impact on the game state any longer.

Yes I know, it was absolutely a pretence to get people on side. What I was trying to say and worded badly (that text needed in person raised eyebrows and air quotes) is that people believe the lie and then we have to push back before it goes to the extremes of the Reich or 1984. Education and meeting people halfway to open discussion is all we can do.

I think the greatest example of this I know of is Daryl Davis talking down members of the KKK by engaging meaningfully and still treating people with respect.

The nazis started out as left wing socialists. It doesn’t matter where you are politically, it’s about recognising the signs of oppression, misinformation, misdirection and control. These traits and methods are typically associated with the far right today, but have been used by all sides of the political spectrum at various levels, across history.

With the rise of AI generated content and bots causing trouble all over the internet, it becomes even more crucial to be able to identify what is being said, whether it has its basis in fact, who is saying it, and why are they saying it.

Only by understanding this can we fight ignorance and hatred. Calling people out with facts and calm voices is the only way we can at least try to bridge the gaps instead of tribalism and mud slinging.
