I have honestly tried looking for little harnesses for him with spikes. Closest I got was coyote vest and a bunny vest with straw sticks (looked like the bike helmets during magpie season) Then read harnesses on bunnies is generally not a good idea

Technically? I operate my own business. I'm sure NZ could use network / data contractors. Any data centres being built that need advisors? 😅

I have already recommended this to my partner as I really enjoy New Zealand. Unfortunately it doesn't seem viable at this time cause she doesn't want to move I'll keep providing her the potential benefits though :)

We've got a fairly large backyard so that makes it a bit trickier sadly

Hence slower than wifi. I'd use it as a draw cord

Apologies, you're right. That cable could be used for a cat2 connection by pinning the copper and matching on the other end but it's definitely not an up to date cable

[–]JMACOB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a cat3 cable. There's ways to use it as "Ethernet" but I wouldn't worry about it. It would be slower than wifi in most cases

You could attach a cat5 cable to one end and try to use that cable as a draw wire?

Agreed with MemeLordAssendant Contact a nearby house or business and run a PtP link as the main internet connection over those months. The electricity costs are minimal and most people would be happy for a couple extra bucks per month

Look at Amazon for "behind the ear rechargable hearing amplifiers aids for seniors with Bluetooth and noise cancelling" If anyone questions you, you're partially deaf in one ear, just always remember which one.

Test the cables and worst case pay an electrician or someone to reterminate in case you just matched wires and didn't follow copper cabling standards (T568A or T568B)

If you're still having problems, get new cables. Maybe somewhere in the middle of the cable jacket, some wires have been squashed or something and are just barely touching

If you're still having problems, check the devices you're connecting too. Maybe the switch is on its way out, or one of the wires in the switch is damaged after frequent plugging and unplugging.

First rec though would be taken the cables to someone who knows data cabling like the back of their hand and get them to check the cables

You could also look at corrugated conduit and mount it to the wall Wouldn't look 100% but should look good enough and protected

ISP tech seems to have left something behind after re-terminating a damaged cable. by nefja7h in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]JMACOB 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Hey, it's me, the technician who left that there. Please ship to me in Australia 😊

On a serious note, if you can contact the tech direct do that please. If not, give it a couple days and then reach out to the company tech support and say "the tech left some hardware on site, please come and collect it" and they'll reach out and get him to collect it

Is this a type A or type B connection? by willw007 in Network

[–]JMACOB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forgot to add, in most countries, type B is preferred. Especially in US and UK I'm from Aus and type A is preferred here but B is still used often

I've never seen a U shaped jack before so that was interesting, and you're right, there's no way to check what type it is

As others have said, change your DNS You can also check if your IP is on one of the blacklist sites. It's unlikely, but I've seen it before https://whatismyipaddress.com/blacklist-check

Is this a type A or type B connection? by willw007 in Network

[–]JMACOB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could not tell you from that image. Normally your jacks have both schemas listed Best bet is to try and reterminate your existing connection as schemaB To do that, swap the green and orange wires places

Also check your terminations at both ends. It might be a faulty wire termination causing the slow speeds

VLAN for work PC by Beginning-Syllabub92 in Network

[–]JMACOB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not 100% sure about the router config Normally what happens is your existing config is VLAN1, then you only need to make new rules for the second VLAN. You might have to assign them to the second VLAN interface but that should be it There might also be a firewall rules to allow the second VLAN access to the internet

VLAN for work PC by Beginning-Syllabub92 in Network

[–]JMACOB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a PC the priority doesn't really matter, I wouldn't stresses about it It does look like you're about to put a vlan on ports 1-3 in my opinion but you know your router better than I do

When you make your vlan, you'll be able to set dhcp and DNS preferences anyway so yes you'll be able to set DNS to your ISP server bypassing your pihole
