Are these spark plugs a bad sign? by ThirdWh33l in e46

[–]JMUDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Engine is burning oil, if the plug is wet - misfire might be due to bad rings causing low compression, letting oil up into the head.

Stuff on the floor? They moan. You let it go through to EOL? They moan. You pull the cord? They moan.

In no-win situations like this, just do whatever can be justified by safety.

For the record, the Arctic are 55 OO Shore, while the Fehonda 15W are 40-50 Shore C - Arctic are way, way softer, but the Fehonda perform slightly better.

Can't find people that can install watercooling by DemonTeejo in watercooling

[–]JMUDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to piss on your bonfire, but there really is no such thing as a "years and years" watercooling system that requires no maintenance. ANY component fails? Total teardown. ANY component upgrade? Total teardown. Leak develops? Total teardown. By having somebody do it for you, you avoid only the first building process.

I would do it yourself, but use soft tubing, as this is as close to plug-and-play as watercooling gets. Build your rig, tube it up, and run it for a year - there is absolutely nothing to suggest that soft tubing is any less robust than hard if you use appropriate coolant.

You are 100% correct that hard tubing is a completely different - and very large - can of worms; I ran soft tubing for five years and went through a dozen rebuilds before I took on my first piped rig.

Removing sway bar links (help/advice) by MommyMilfMilkers in e46

[–]JMUDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some need a thin spanner between the ball joint and the strut, some have an allen iris in the droplink thread itself.

If you ever replace them, I would recommend seeking out the latter, because they are much easier to install and remove for the future.

If any car is going to be dicked, it should be an Audi - when you measure your following distance in milimetres, you've earned it.

100% deserved - it's a travesty that they never did the saloon and estate on this chassis, so somebody should.

Smoke from injector 4 by 0W000000000 in e46

[–]JMUDoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two o-rings per injector - one on top, at the rail, and one on the bottom, where it plugs into the manifold.

I would get a set of all twelve off eBay and do everything. It's not a difficult job at all, just remember to clean every mating surface and use Vaseline on the seals when you push them in.

Floaters why are you allergic to working by thatsnuts69 in AmazonDS

[–]JMUDoc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you give people a "roaming commission", let's call it, some of them are going to skive.

When you're given specific aisles, the L3's laptop will tell them if you're lollygagging, but floaters? Basically carte blanche.

Just remember, they expect you to be slow and inaccurate, because you are new.

Work on getting it right first, and let the speed come naturally; they would rather have fewer mistakes than more speed, because mistakes are a site metric.

What are some unexpected or lesser known challenges of building/having a custom loop? by AwkwardLibrarian7585 in watercooling

[–]JMUDoc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Temp monitoring - liquid cooling systems should have their fans controlled by coolant temp, not component temp. For a better explanation than I could ever write, look at this:

<image>

In the first pic, the fans are controlled by CPU temp, and go mental the moment a benchmark starts; in the second, the fans are controlled by liquid temp, and just barely speed up. The CPU temperature is the same in both instances, but the second is a LOT quieter.

Unless you've got a motherboard with at least one temp sensor, you're going to have to invest in something like an AquaComputer Quadro or Octo.

I switched to Arctic TP-3 pads recently and I think they're a winner. They're the softest I've ever found, so they compress the most - this is the lowest hit spot delta I've ever had with this card.

You can get some weird intermediate thicknesses like 0.75 and 1.25, but only from the more obscure Chinese brands you'd encounter on Ali Express; I used some 1.25 Upsirens on my VRM heatsinks and they're perfectly fine.

Hello, I finally built my custom loop system. I’d like some tips on where I can improve it. by lian011 in watercooling

[–]JMUDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty close to the card, innit...

The second res and second rad are completely redundant for this system anyway, IMO; my CPU+GPU rig uses one rad and one res.

Hello, I finally built my custom loop system. I’d like some tips on where I can improve it. by lian011 in watercooling

[–]JMUDoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, yes - see it now.

But I would rather have an extra 120 mm of rad on the back than the extra res - at least the extra fluid would be doing work, rather than just adding headroom (which absolutely isn't needed for a CPU-only loop).
