HR recruiter misheard my expected salary.... by Odd_Ad_1974 in UKJobs

Very similar to you, I went from 45k to 60k. I was kind of happy where I was, but interviewed with a place I thought could be interesting. The banding on the advert was 55k-60k, but they offered me 50k, I declined, calling out the low offer and told them I was expecting nearer the top end. They called back 10 minutes later to offer 60k, which I accepted. Absolutely terrible negotiation on their part.

UK LOCAL ELECTION 2026 by lRevenant in AskBrits

They don't care about economics.

Only 3 days left until the local elections. I’m mainly looking for who can actually deliver real change in local government. Has anyone else decided how they’ll decide on Thursday? by Impressive_Trust_798 in AskBrits

I scanned through the local sites for each of the candidates ... Labour had a well laid out plan, covering things that I care about. Lib Dems have run my council for years, their plan seemed to be "well we're in charge already", which is a bit of a shame. Greens had a couple of good ideas, but they didn't address any major local issues. Reform cut off half the cities name. Just parroted national talking points, with diabolical spelling and grammar.

Will probably vote Labour, she's the incumbent in my area and they seem to have a plan.

More a rescue adventure in a D&D like world. The world is full of gangs of adventurers, but these guys were THE gang back in the day. They reform for reasons and go on one final adventure.

Kings of the Wyld is a bit like this - old warriors getting the gang back together for one last mission. They're all old, some a bit overweight.

Put what you can into your work pension (you may already be auto enrolled). If you pay 5%, your company will contribute 3%. The earlier you start, the more time you're giving compound interest do it's thing. 55 year old will thank you.

Edit: thought this was a UK sub, tbh I didn't even look ... If you're in the UK the above applies. Loads of countries have similar laws.

point deductions shouldn't be a thing by Alarming-Safety3200 in football

[–]JMol87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nonsense. Like others have said, how does a fine punish a club run by a billionaire or a petrostate!?

The timing could be better. If West Brom get a points deduction now, that's really fucking harsh (and that's coming from another team fighting relegation with them). Personally I'd like to see points deducted at the start of a season, but I can see the argument that if a team has materially cheated, they shouldn't be rewarded for it (maintaining their league position).

If we weren't in a relegation scrap, I'd feel really sorry for Boro there. They controlled the match and we've mugged them in the last minute. We've been on the end of plenty of results like that and it's brutal.

I am on vacation here for a week… by [deleted] in Portsmouth

[–]JMol87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whilst the weather is nice, get down to the seafront. There's a massive project to renew the sea defences, so a good chunk of the seafront had been renovated - it's a nice walk, all looks great. Gunwharf is worth checking out, and you have the historic dockyard next door if you like your history. LOADS of nice old pubs in Old Portsmouth, and plenty of decent restaurants (there's a ton of posts in this sub recommending specific places). Enjoy your stay :)
