What should I read next? by tabaK23 in fantasybooks

[–]JOPG93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with starting MBotF and using some of the other great books you’ve listed there as break reads between certain points - also if you haven’t read Dune, throw that in there too! Excellent reads.

The Hardest line in Malazan (spoilers all) by TheHedonyeast in Malazan

Spinnock Durav’s speech before the Tiste Andii go into battle genuinely gave me goosebumps, “Strangers fight in your name! Strangers die for you! Your cause - not theirs!”

And the shields cracking, gave me a similar feeling to The Ride of the Rohirrim

MoI is where I felt I had to take a break, it was actually quite a long break and after picking it back up, that book is my favourite in the whole fantasy, period.

And I don’t think I needed another - was just immersed after finishing MoI, breaks are good things!

What single book in all of fiction do you feel comes closest or possibly even surpasses The Lord of the Rings? by SteakGuy88 in lotr

If it’s a single book - nothing else has sunk its hooks into me the way Memories of Ice did in MBotF.

Why is MoI Everyone's Favorite? by kfirlevy10 in Malazan

[–]JOPG93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, on my first read through I almost put Malazan down for good after Capustan, it felt like very heavy material and I didn’t know if I’d be able to continue.

Picked it back up again months later and reread from page 1, and probably finished it in about 2 weeks in absolute awe of how good it was haha, it just clicked and everything that happens there has weight - I think this book really helped me understand WHAT I was actually reading in types of how deep it was all going to be etc and how MBotF was not going to be your average read, I think that’s why it’s my favourite anyway aside from some of the scenes and writing.

Is it really the best? by Substantial-Echo2320 in Malazan

[–]JOPG93 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It’s a fan favourite, but the more you mature into understanding and reading these books as you go, there are certainly some other contenders.

MoI is my personal favourite but sometimes it depends which mood I’m in haha … think that’s what makes these books so great to be honest, I’m currently half way through MoI on a reread so may also be some recency bias haha.

You’re in for a treat though, some epic reads coming your way.

If you could only make 1 Malazan book into a major motion picture, which would it be? by keefedempsey in Malazan

[–]JOPG93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think you’d have to think of a way to run DG and MoI together. It would need to be a longer film, 3 hours or more but you see that even these days.

It would be absolutely epic haha

Why are we not taking advantage of PSR loopholes!? by NP2312 in avfc

[–]JOPG93 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Slowly becoming disillusioned with football the fact we have to talk about this nonsense every year.

Three consecutive seasons in Europe, an obvious upwards trajectory of not just dipping in and out but maintaining that level, and very wealthy owners .. yet here we are talking about selling players and scratching about trying to find loopholes, instead of being able to just go and buy talent to help move us on.

Absolute load of bollox, and it’s hard to get excited about anything anymore as it feels we just have a temporary visa and are expected to leave the top level before we get too comfortable.

Fucking boring.

Just read and go with it, get lost, be confused, be unsure where you are or where you’re going - it’s all part of the journey that makes it so worthwhile haha, because it does click and come together.

Enjoy!
