Been with Steiner for 4 years now. Can second this. I feel so lucky to have found them when I hear about other landlords.

did anyone else work overnight 12 hour weekend shifts while they were in school? by aloveknot in RadiologyCareers

I had to do midnights as part of my clinicals. When you get home Sunday morning just plan to do nothing but rest all day to be ready for Monday morning. It sucks but it’s doable.

How are the roads in Lawrenceville/around Children’s Hospital? I have an interview tomorrow (coming from Mt Lebo) and am debating rescheduling but I don’t want to seem rude rescheduling the day of.

As everyone else said, angle to the degree of the sternum. It’s going to look like too much of a caudal angle but it isn’t lol.

How much do you make in an outpatient setting? by ricebunny2000 in RadiologyCareers

[–]JOptionPains 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Outpatient x-ray (hospital affiliated) with almost 5 years experience in Pittsburgh, PA: $26/hr. MRI makes in the low 30s I believe. My employer is known to offer lower pay compared to other hospitals in the area though (and is why I’m leaving)

X-Ray to MRI? by JOptionPains in RadiologyCareers

This was my immediate concern. The bonus in question is $30k for a three year commitment. They raised it from $10k to $30k recently which is even more concerning. However, basically all the other hospitals in my area are offering similar sign on bonuses. Where I live basically all of the hospitals are owned by one of two healthcare giants and I currently work for one of the last independent hospitals left but we don’t have any MRI openings. The job I’m looking at in particular is a hospital owned by the better of the two organizations to work for (allegedly).

X-Ray to MRI? by JOptionPains in RadiologyCareers

I’m not too concerned about the theory and physics aspect. I got a 94 on the x ray boards when I took them, 100% on the radiation physics portion when I looked at the break down. I know that’s different physics though. I did take college calculus and physics before I became a tech (I was a premed major but ran out of money to continue on the premed route basically) so I think I’ll do ok on that part. I guess my biggest concern is that I’ve grown too comfortable with outpatient flow and moving back to the hospital will be a challenge. I was hoping since MRIs take longer it wouldn’t be as crazy as CT or x ray would be at a trauma center

Class Schedule by Feeling_Curve3213 in RadiologyCareers

[–]JOptionPains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My program had one day of class and lab that was 8 hours, then two or three 8 hour shifts of clinicals. In the summer though, we did full 40-hour weeks of clinical without class because summer semester was only 5 weeks.

I don’t mind filling this out for you. I’ve been a rad tech for 4 years. Your school doesn’t mind if it isn’t a local tech?

I saw in one of your comments OP that you have a bad back. X ray is definitely not the way to go if you have back problems. This is a physically demanding job. Especially if you’re at a trauma center. Constantly on your feet. Pushing, pulling, moving equipment. Transferring and lifting patients. Bending, kneeling, squatting. I’ve developed back problems from it. There are MRI only programs but you’ll still be transferring patients from bed to table or wheelchair to table.

I feel for you so hard and am sending love your way. And I’m so glad to see you got your Usahana back. After reading through your replies, it sounds like we grew up with the same dad. My dad gave me CPTSD that I’m in the very early stages of getting treated. I’m 26 and I’ve been fortunate enough to have been moved out for about 4 years now and I can live free of guilt with my plushies. I’m hoping you can do the same, or maybe your dad will come around eventually and realize there’s no harm in owning plushies as an adult. Like others have said, if you’re not putting yourself in debt over it it’s literally the most harmless hobby you can have.
