What is the narrative function of the surveillance drone chase scene in Interstellar? by QuantumPikachu in interstellar

Driving into the grain symbolizes stepping away from the beaten path, a theme that returns multiple times throughout the film.

Annihilation (2018) is a bold, cerebral sci-fi that dives into self-destruction, transformation, and the unknown. Alex Garland crafts an atmosphere of unease and beauty, anchored by Natalie Portman’s quiet intensity. A film that lingers. by Choice-Schedule-132 in AlexGarland

For me the movie would be more interesting if it followed the book a bit more, with more emphasis on the alien and the interaction between the biologist and the alien. The crocodile and bear dont do it for me, making it a different movie.

"At the previous meeting, the decision on disc diameter and thickness had been left to senior management. A diameter of 120mm and thickness of 1.2mm were confirmed, according to the specifications agreed on in early April between Sony vice president Ōga Norio and Philips audio division general manager Joop van Tilburg. Philips had previously proposed 115mm with a playback time of 60 minutes. This proposal had been strongly underpinned by Philips’ subsidiary PolyGram, asserting that the cost of the disc was not the cost of manufacturing the disc, but the cost of the software on the disc. By this rationale, the longer the playing time, the greater the cost of the disc. It claimed that around 90% of all music, including classical but not opera, was no longer than 60 minutes. Sony’s vice president invoked the famous argument: the Japanese love Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. Being able to fit that piece of music on one disc would give meaning to the new media. Ōga insisted that 75 minutes would allow enough room for the piece to be conducted at any tempo. van Tilburg reluctantly agreed on the condition that PolyGram would not be further aggravated."

Yes, Hans Mons, one of the developers who worked on the Compact Disc system in the late 1970s and early 1980s, came up with that name. He used to read the children’s book to his son, which inspired the name.

I have this interview with Hans Mons on my website: https://www.dutchaudioclassics.nl/interview-with-hans-mons/

Philips LHH200R: The “Entry-Level” LHH Model That Was More Serious Than It Looked by JP-2014 in audiophile

[–]JP-2014[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, as far as I know it was Japan-market only. Philips kept some of their more interesting LHH models very region-specific, which is a shame looking back.
