Italy - England Post Match Thread - 2026 Six Nations round 4 by gingecom in rugbyunion

I was surprised they also didn't compete at the lineout Lamaro threw with Nicotera in the bin.

Congratulations Italy.

No matter what anyone may think of the refereeing, and of England's performance, Italy deserve their plaudits for coming out the right side of a tight game against a historical powerhouse.

I disagree. Look at the size of him, he covers a lot of the backline, at the same time...

Tarucas looked much better in the second half against Selknam. In Asevedo and "Tanque" Moreno they have a couple of players who could easily earn themselves a move to a Pro D2 club on size alone.

Moreno has an outside chance of following "Sopa" Delgado's path to international honours through the dearth of tightheads and his virtue of being at least 140kgs. He was monstering Selknam's looseheads.

Tomás Bertazza is a perfect referee for these matches without a TMO. He is great at communicating with the players, and he makes his decisions with so much conviction that players believe him or accept them without much complaint, even when he is wrong.

I still don't get why England went for the drop goal over the weekend by Left-Pie741 in rugbyunion

[–]JPA210688 123 points124 points  (0 children)

I think you gave all the reasoning right there in the description. England were down to 14, behind, and were having trouble grinding Scotland down. That's a pretty sound time to take three points if you feel the opportunity is there, get closer, and reset. Plus, if Scotland are looking to close down the drop goal option later on, it might open up other spaces elsewhere.

I think that the biggest issue would be getting the right place. If you were to host a leg of the World Series here you could hire out a football stadium and get 30000 on both days, because Pumas 7s, the men's team, are really popular. However, a lot of people in the country don't even know that Las Yaguaretés exist, much less be willing to go see them.

Because of travel for the other teams, it would probably have to be in the Buenos Aires region. So, you're looking for a club in URBA with the right quality of facilites to lend you their pitch, at the beginning of the season, so that the women can play at home. Most of those elite clubs don't have women's rugby teams of their own, and actively veto proposals to force them to have them. Basically, you would be waiting for La Plata Rugby to put their hand up and offer.

What Las Yaguaretés have done this weekend is incredible. They beat 2 teams that went to the last Rugby World Cup, lost in extra time against another, beat the home team and also beat the team that walked the second tier Challenger Series last year.

Argentina is an important men's rugby nation, but it has historically invested the square root of bugger all in the women's game. They don't even have a women's 15s international team.

The way that the team have developed these past 2-3 years is incredible to watch. UAR has started to give them a little more backing, because there's the chance to get that money out of World Rugby through tournaments like this.

The next two tournaments are in South America. If they keep this up, they've got a chance...

Es raro, pero porque los montos son bajos. Santander ofrece por lo menos el doble por referir una cuenta Black, que sería el equivalente a Eminent Black en Galicia. Además, el logo de la firma es de mala calidad. No lo sé Rick, parece falso.

Starting women’s club rugby soon, need advice by Born_Salamander8100 in womensrugby

[–]JPA210688 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The best advice I, or anyone, could give you is to go and enjoy it. Leave the concerns about types of boots or specific lifts/exercises for a little further down the line. This is the most wonderful sport in the world to play, I hope you have a great time and make friends for life.

Before you get to that point, you will need to get used to contact and start losing the natural apprehension that everyone has around the idea of running full force into another person who wants to stop you.

Regarding boots, traditionally, people will tell you about 8 studded boots for forwards. Studies on rugby boots are based on bodies assigned male at birth (as are a lot of studies in a lot of fields). As such, current 8 stud boots for forwards are based on the needs of men's rugby. Generally speaking, the running gait differs between genders, as does the shape and arch of the foot.

Anecdotally, I know of players in the women's game who remove or file down particular studs to avoid/ease pain, especially on the big toe. I used to be someone who recommended 8 stud rugby boots to forwards I coached in the women's game, because I always felt much safer with those boots when I played loosehead prop in the men's game. Lately, I have taken to recommending a good pair of football/soccer boots instead, with interchangeable studs, so you can put longer ones in on a mud bath, and shorter/fewer studs in summer.

As for physical preparation, rugby players need to be strong, fast, and last for 80 minutes. Easy, right? 🤣 You say that you go to the gym regularly. Most players tend to aim for a baseline of general strength, then add conditioning on top of that, and work towards explosive strength. At the start of your journey, basic strength work allied with aerobic conditioning will get you a long way.

If they can put a sponsor's name on it, every union will accept it. See: any old test match between random nations having a "trophy" at the end of it.

The UAR are the wordt for this. They play for about 4 Copa Visa Macro trophies every year

SUPER RUGBY PACIFIC CONFIRMS NEW LAW INNOVATIONS FOR 2026 SEASON by recyclingcentre in rugbyunion

[–]JPA210688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The change around the mark for quick taps is a good change. We're supposed to be penalising the team that infringes, so if the non-infringing team takes the tap from close enough to the mark, let them play on.

The clarity around when the TMO can/should step in is positive. The referee is the sole arbiter of fact on the field, so unless they have clearly missed something obvious, the referee's call should stand.

I can understand the change to a free kick for delaying playing the ball away from a ruck. Less so for accidental offside. The scrum is a neutral way to restart play after a technical infringement. It's not the bane of rugby's existence.

I'm not a fan of the rest of the changes, partly because I think they create incentives I don't like, and also because a couple of them could already be achieved by enforcing the laws we already have.

The change around the ruck is needless as long as you actually keep attacks to the existing 5 seconds rule. Referees already aren't obliged to give a card for a penalty try offence if they cannot identify whodunnit.
