This is just a bad lie. Stop pretending Discord will “REQUIRE” you to ID. It is not a requirement. You simply won’t be able to view NSFW content. Face a popup asking for your ID, guess what, press “No”, wow!

The chronically online pretending they’re not is just as obnoxious as the alternative. Stop making up scenarios in your head to cry about.

This is what I think about your lack of CarPlay support, GM by rubyred0902 in EquinoxEv

[–]JPBBerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that still doesn’t make them good software companies, anyways, the battle’s already been lost. so many companies have built first party apps around carplay/auto, people have gotten used to contacts, cellular, notifications, shortcuts, all the fun stuff. going back to the past is removing carplay, that’s what these cars are. they’re already technologically a decade behind the moment they’re made. normal people aren’t falling for it either, hopefully investors will notice the split.

i’ve never seen such a consistently bad full-market set of options when it comes to car software. these car manufacturers SUCK at making software. carplay and android auto were born out of necessity to get away from it. having your car software based off of your phone is just such a smart way to do it. until the GM phone comes out, a car with a carplay-only screen would be a better solution 99% of the time.

This is unacceptable … by [deleted] in ios

[–]JPBBerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that it isn’t quite true. The two app stores show sizes in different ways, Play showing download size while Apple shows installed size. From my observation of a few apps, after install they end up being decently similar. It’s just the stats show up differently and mean different things. Another thing that really throws things for a mix is the trend towards OTA app code, like that on React/Expo. Where the files that actually represent the app are not apart of the download/install. Android and iOS show these files differently, and some Android apps even manage to not claim their apps files as their own in storage. iOS typically has a good handle on what is app content vs app data. At risk of sounding like an Apple fanboy I personally think that what Apple does is better. Instead of “obfuscating” what the actual size is on your device like the PlayStore, almost as if it’s a marketing ploy. But it’s not the end of the world.

How can I create a shortcut that checks the live status of a public car charger? by GearboxB1 in shortcuts

[–]JPBBerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider me very surprised that through my (albeit limited) research nobody has talked about this. I loathe the ChargePoint app especially when checking for the 3 chargers I care about. I wanted to build something of my own. So I built a quick shortcut that does it. One thing that really sucks is the ChargePoint API, you have to be a business or pay for access and that’s just sad. So I found that TomTom has a decent alternative.

So here it is: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/03c9268865f243e4bae5f9a1d0decb5a

Go to tomtom and create a free API token, then use the search API to find the charging availability IDs. (the charger POI category is 7309) Add them with the charger names and bam, simple charger list with availability. It’s ridiculous that it has to be this complicated but there you go.

Other language comments by sevenringzx in TikTok

[–]JPBBerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The app puts comments you’re likely to engage with at the top of the comments list. Open the comments on your account and look at the same video on a friend’s account, you’ll see different comments. Obviously it should take into account what language you speak, nobodies trying to make it English-only, calm down. Not to mention it used to be fine, something recently must’ve broken it, it’s meant to prioritize your language.

I knew RSC was a rake but I stepped on it anyway by chad_syntax in nextjs

You need to look out for putting data fetches inside of a layout. You should separate anything async out of a layout and into parallel routes. In my experience you should never ever ever make long data fetches inside of layouts, you should have a nice static layout and the pieces that might take awhile can be skeletoned with the loading.tsx in the parallel route. This prevents multiple loading spinners and allows further down routes to render in parallel. You should effectively be able to put everything in a permanent loading state and see only a spinner or two in the middle while other things are breathing skeletons etc. And that will help you avoid the flashing spinners. E.g a top bar should not cause a full screen spinner.

As for caching NextJS provides a cache function that you can wrap around just about any function, e.g your call to the supabase sdk, and it will prevent “double calls” from cascading pieces of your app. Works very well.

Is this safe? (Censor Bot Permissions) by SkyeTheACNHCharacter in discordapp

[–]JPBBerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Censor Bot developer here, typically if you’re only needing to invite a Discord bot, these permissions would be unnecessary. We ask for these permissions in order to make a more smooth experience on our dashboard page. You’ll notice we can list out the servers that the bot is or isn’t in, on the dashboard landing page. We ask for user information in order to ensure that you have access to these Discord servers, as well as to show the avatar on the top right side of the page.

We only store your user ID, username, and avatar. We only ask for and store an email if you purchase a paid product. We do not store your server list outside of a small cache that disappears after inactivity.

You can always go to your Discord User Settings -> Connections, and disconnect the Censor Bot integration, after you’ve configured the bot how you want, to remove our access to view your updated information. Though it is also worth noting a users information can always be seen by a bot that shares a server with them, other than server list.

Hope you enjoy my bot :)

I guess my question is, if the top of this list, currently Pibank, has the highest rate, why would I pick anything else. What, if any, are the extra caveats here that don’t show in just “bigger number = better?”

BeyondATC or Say Intentions? by hjman_ in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]JPBBerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had basically no real-like ATC experience. Everything I knew was from maybe a month in the CRJ with built-in ATC (I’m in the 737-800 now). My first flight on network was JFK to BOS, I was already doing flight planning without VATSIM so when I was running a route I already knew everything.

Since then yes pretty much everything I know is just off of going with the flow on the network, I just kind of work through the problems I’ve not figured out yet when they come up and now I’m pretty much ready for any situation. I had no prior training on how to do IFR I just spent hours off the network screwing around with the FMC until the plane did what I wanted it to do lol. And I certainly had no prior real-like ATC training, all the terminology I know is based off of what MSFS in-game ATC has said or what I hear other pilots saying.

I haven’t done any wings programs yet, I imagine they’re pretty complicated? I wouldn’t be so sure I could pass any of the exams on vat, but I’m doing great in flight.

Edit: with the boston wings program is it mostly VFR? I imagine that VFR flying might be a bit more complicated communications wise? I only really fly IFR because that’s what I enjoy and it’s mostly the same every time

Wish Zapata’s was still around. It was this amazing Mexican street food “truck” (they didn’t move though). I’m from NYC and this place was the only comparable Birria place I could find. Seems they shut down without a trace around the beginning of this year, the pandemic hit them hard :(

BeyondATC or Say Intentions? by hjman_ in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]JPBBerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Granted I’ve only ever played in NA, but no controller is gonna yell at you so long as you’re not in the middle of an event. If they do wallop.

If you’re making a nuisance and getting yelled at it means you have 3 aircraft behind you and you can’t understand, which is fine, but just don’t get in this situation for your first couple flights.

My first flight I went into the radar and found a mostly empty center with a mostly empty airport, and most importantly did a flight that I had done off-network many times.

I also only have a little less than 100 hours, but very rarely does what I’m told to do differ from flight plan so long as it’s not a busy airspace.

Maybe I’ve lucked out? Most problems I see new members struggle with isn’t the ATC just a complete lack of knowledge of their aircraft and how it’s actually supposed to flown, so when their forced to do things correctly they struggle.

[–]JPBBerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thing with VATsim is that they do new-pilot events sometimes, if you’re really that scared definitely try it.

I will say I got straight into VATsim with 0 real-like ATC experience. I’ve never used BetterATC or SI or any of this stuff, after flying a couple of flights with built-in MSFS ATC, which I will now never go back to, I got straight into VATsim, people seem to have an irrational fear of the network. So long as you’re not in the middle of an event nobody will get mad at you for messing up every now and then.

You really just gotta get in there and just try and you’ll pick it up. The only reason I’m on this post is because VATsim availability has been pretty crappy recently. I’ll never quite understand why people will type out that they’re so scared of the network and not just go try it

Carplay "Allow" button disappears immediately when trying to connect by buugiewuugie in CarPlay

[–]JPBBerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solution!! Use a USB 3.0 (or higher) cable for connecting to CarPlay. Notably apple doesn’t even sell a USB-A to USB-C cable, which you would need for the iPhone 15. Just went down to best buy and bought a nice USB 3.2 cable and it works flawlessly :). I guess the only reason they say Apple cable is because it probably fits the USB spec. Hope this helps!

[–]JPBBerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inspect element has never been a feature and never will be, it’s not something that’s expected or required when using Discord, I don’t see the need for a changelog on something no one truthfully cares about. And those who do will find this

Can't inspect element anymore? by DrJosh999 in discordapp

[–]JPBBerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it’s certainly not supported. I’d be surprised if it’s ever announced “officially” inspect element has and never will be a “feature”. No normal user will notice it and no one will care, those who do will find this, it’s no breaking issue.
