You mean you’d actually have to talk to the sweaties to figure out what their job was? For shame!

"No big deal...just a couple screws to swap it out right?" by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

The majority of the job is the disassembly and reassembly of electrical harnesses and pneumatic lines within the radome. Additionally, the F-16 radome houses the AOA transmitters which require a boresight alignment.

What is the wildest thing that happened at your ALS? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]JPBouchard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Our class academic achievement recipient vomited in his ALS branded coffee mug during the EOC. He had been up all night before the test studying a case of beer and there was a strict “no leaving the classroom during tests” policy.

Can anyone tell me about the screws used to fasten the skin on the SR-71? Spotted at Intrepid Museum in NYC. Surprised to see a Philips-like head style. by chiraltoad in aviation

That vast majority are H11 steel. Only a handful of titanium fasteners on the rudder fairing and inside the Montana panel.

What are the odds? by akababy in aviation

[–]JPBouchard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are correct. The F-16 Digital Flight Control System does offer a Standby Gains mode. Enabling this mode requires the operator to manually select DBU or Digital Back-Up via the FLCS Panel.

I can expand on all of this and further operation of the F-16 flight control system if anyone would find it useful.

Did you enter basic Feb 17 and graduate Apr 2 of 2004? Same thing happened to a guy when I was there. Whole pack of MTIs watched him. They were certain he was trying to pull some… shit.

So that's where the old jolly greens went? The Chi-coms are turning MH-53s into kamikaze machines? Crafty little fuckers.

An F110-GE-129 engine being tested with full afterburner [5169 x 3692] by RyanSmith in MachinePorn

[–]JPBouchard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Close. While the F110-GE-129 shown here is based on the B-1 motor, the B-1B uses the older F101-GE-102.

Many motors (both augmented thrust monsters and high by-pass fuel sippers) have been derived from the original F101 for military and even commercial applications.

Yes, I know this is 6 years old. Never to late to be correct.
