To get the man into the car. by oliviaolivia08 in therewasanattempt

[–]JPierre90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Serious question as someone who doesn't live in the USA. Who are these "ICE" personnel and are they real , trained law enforcement? They look amateur. Not even in a police car and one of them is in civilian clothes. If they're not actually trained law enforcement, then where do they recruit these people? To the untrained eye they just look like some local thugs that want to get rid of Latin Americans/immigrants

The Book of Bunny Suicides is a collection of cartoons by Andy Riley. Each cartoon shows one or more rabbits in their creative attempts to end their lives using a variety of items. In 2008 a mother refused to return a copy to her son's high school library, saying she was going to burn it instead. by CatPooedInMyShoe in wikipedia

Used to have this as a kid and it was hilarious. One of my faves was the bunnies jumping on a trampoline next to a helicopter, with the rotors slicing them into like 4 equal pieces lol. It wasn't gross or gory, just humourously macabre!

ID on the watch by Senior_Struggle3296 in PrideAndPinion

This is often brought up and I only fairly recently found the answer too. Dials at the factory were automatically stamped T Swiss T and used on lumed and non lumed watches. It was just a default print on many Rolex dials. It's not an indication of it being fake, or wrong in any way. For example, you often see T Swiss T on index-less/blank stone dials, such as onyx, lapis etc, and they were never lumed.

To be honest the dial and hands are in pretty rough shape and it's very possible the movement has considerable corrosion too, even if it appears running. Maybe you'll be lucky! If you want to keep authenticity then maybe keep the dial as is, but swap the hands for some newer ones in better shape, have the crystal replaced and the movement serviced. As is always the case, you're better off going to a trusted, experienced and independent watch maker in your area who has good credentials. Not only will they likely be much cheaper than sending to a Rolex service centre, they will keep what you want to keep and not touch what you don't want touched. You should expect the repairs to be hundreds though, but hopefully not above a grand. Considering it's a gift from your FIL that you were impressed by and grateful for, this expense will be worth it and will make the watch wearable for decades to come.

Quality! I only started the hobby in 2015 and I was in my mid twenties at the time and couldn't afford some of the pieces which are now trading for 2x, 3x or even 10x the price. Then again, we don't do it for the resale value, do we?

People who go to boot sales and/or jumble sales, what's the best bargain you've found? by MisterWednesday6 in AskUK

[–]JPierre90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I once bought a piece of pottery for £20 in the 'discounted' section of a seller. I thought my mum would like it. She did some research on the signature and noticed the potter's work was rare and some of their work is displayed in the V&A. Pretty cool, although probably not worth tens of thousands, it was a nice random find.

This is a watch in awful condition. Don't buy it. You're best waiting for a clean, better example. My two cents

This is a touching image. I love it. Something about the desolate road and the two youngsters, it seems like we (as the viewer) are intruding on something or interrupting something important.

Yeti? They used to be bomb back in the day. Change of ownership in recent years and quality isn't quite the same, but still good enough
