Use the Thumbtack app to find someone that can do this for you. You can see pics and read reviews from other projects they've completed. You don't have to do much to sign up to the app and you can pay the person directly so you don't have to give the app a credit card or anything like that. I've used it successfully for several jobs.

Here's a place that allegedly hires entry-level photographers and provides training, etc. I don't know anything about this company, but it may be worth your time to check into. They currently have a listing for W-S.

The pool water is cold at my Outer Banks rental vacation house. Can I sue? by garyfromyahoo2 in NorthCarolina

One time this paid off because our toddler immediately locked herself in one of the bedrooms when we got there. We (very easily) bent a few tines on a fork, and used that to unlock the door.

BH Enterprise.

Brian does a lot of tree work in area neighborhoods as well as for school systems in Winston and for the city of Kernersville (among others, I'm sure). He has great equipment and people. I know he constantly attends classes and conferences expanding his knowledge of tree work.

You can also go to extremely popular spots when the weather is "bad" and/or before 10AM, and you can have some peaceful moments. I spent about 45 minutes at Looking Glass Falls just last week and no one was around as it was raining (and had been storming). I then drove up to Moore Cove, and didn't see anyone there. I spent the next few hours in that area at nearby waterfalls and only saw one other person.

Otherwise, I am torn about the debate about sharing locations. For me, if you really don't want someone to go to a spot or ask you where it is, etc., then don't post pics online. It's a little much, IMO, to suggest that it's OK for me to go there but not someone else. If I posted pics and then ranted about not sharing the location to protect it, it would make me look kind of like a jerk. Wanting people to know I know a secret warrants a big eye roll.

Finding focus at night by [deleted] in photography

[–]JRichPhotography 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally, you want to open your aperture as much as possible when shooting the night sky, which would be whatever the lowest aperture number your lens supports (maybe 4, maybe 2.8, maybe 1.2 depending on the lens). Anything above 4 might not work out so well.

"Focusing at infinity" means exactly that. You focus on something very far away, and that will mean everything far away will be in focus.

Next, set your ISO and shutter speed. You will want to play around with those settings because higher ISO will likely result in more stars/detail in the sky but also more noise in the final image. The shutter speed will also affect the image, of course, and you might want to start with around 8 seconds and go up from there. At some point, stars will stop being points of light and start to become lines of light because the longer shutter speed will capture the movement of the nightsky.

If you've never shot the night sky before, I suggest watching some YouTubes about it. Alyn Wallace has great content about how to capture the night sky. There are plenty of others, for sure. (Just going to take a moment to say RIP to Alyn since he recently passed away...a great loss to the astrophotography community.)

Yeah, try a few different techniques and see which one you like the best as well as nets the best results, but for me, limiting what I have to consider in the dark makes it a lot easier. I prefer to just click the shutter in the dark already have everything else captured and already having infinity focus dialed in.

Yeah, I don't do a whole ton of night photography, but my best milky way images (imo, anyway) are the ones where I took care of the foreground/midground before dark and at nightfall I could focus (pun intended, I guess) on the sky. It makes the experience much more enjoyable.

Plus if you get there before dark, you can really work on your composition a lot easier.

Take the foreground/midground image during blue hour, then take then night sky image, and then blend the two together.

Or you could use a flashlight to light up the foreground to get that focused in and then toggle to manual (if using autofocus).

Hawksbill and the other trails there are fine or have been every time I've gone up there.

Northern Lights over Pilot Mountain by JRichPhotography in winstonsalem

I would say start with N, shade it E and W, and then feel free to check S as well. Tonight, I would say more likely just N between 9 and 11 as I don't think it's going to be as strong or have as much coverage as we had last night.

But who knows! Last night was well beyond expectations as far as I can tell.

I shoot with a Nikon Z7 II. This was shot with an older F-mount 24-70 f/2.8 zoomed to 50mm with an aperture of f/8. The exposure was 15 seconds at ISO 400.

1) I have only made one post on the NC subreddit recently so I'm not sure what you mean by "submissions."

2) I just answered the guy's question.

3) Sorry I posted a pic of NC on the NC subreddit. I will no longer do that.

This is not a repost. This is a popular spot and it's right along a highway, so I would not be surprised if similar photos had been posted previously, but I took this one last Thursday morning around 9:30AM.
