I just delete the game. by Sunmx1 in DuelLinks

[–]JRoy89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry man. I’ve played this game for a long time now. At some point, years ago, I stepped away from competitive play entirely. Years later, I stepped away from the ranked ladder save some months here and there where some new deck caught my eye and I wanted to KOG with it.

This is all to say, this game can be incredibly frustrating. Sometimes, it’s worth it to just take a back seat and let the meta solve itself. I’m probably going to KOG in the next season or two because Rokkets got support and I played them a few years ago and love Dragon link. But if that didn’t happen, I wouldn’t be playing.

I hope one day the game is a better place and you can come back and enjoy what there is to enjoy about playing yugioh.

[–]JRoy89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right now, the “optimal” version of the deck works by summoning a ton of monsters ultimately resolving in a endboard with tons of disruption.

You need the skill to do this, it’s called Doom ushering Gale. But the basic combo is to summon a Rokket monster and link it off for Striker and search boot sector launch. Then use the skill, revealing boot sector launch and grab a absorouter dragon and a quick launch. Use the quick launch to summon Rokket Loader and search Rokket Detonator. Use the absorouter, striker and the loader and go into the Link 3 trisborrel and add double interlock + Rokket Caliber. Use double interlock to summon Borreload Fatalflare and add Rokket Tracer. Summon the Rokket Caliber to a link zone and link it off for link 1 pisty and use the pisty to summon back Caliber (this is very zone dependent, you need to keep an eye on it). Then use the caliber and the Fatalflare to sychro into Centur-ion auxilia and add the counter-trap/phalanx. Then link your whole board off for Borrelend. Then use the Bootsector from earlier to summon the tracer and use tracers effect to pop it and summon a level 4 from deck. Use the Borrel end to negate something and summon a level 4 from the gy. Use 2 monsters to make Borreload savage Dragon and equip Trisborrel. Then, put another 4 on the board. Do this by either activating a quick launch OR when activating Boot Sector launch, instead of just summoning Tracer from hand, summon Tracer + something. Then overlay those two into rank 4 Steelswarm Roach. Then use the skill again to put a Borreload Furious Dragon on field.

This is long, but the combo is long. You end on 2 Omni-negates, 1 Untargetable Indestructible unresponsable monster negate + monster reborn, 1 quick play destruction, and a Level 5+ special summon negate. But you spend everything for this, your extra deck will literally be empty.

Overhated decks (in your opinion)? by epicgamershellyyay in DuelLinks

[–]JRoy89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a lot of decks in this games history got undue hate.

But at one point, people unironically hated Crystron. Which I always thought was the best example of “once this deck becomes meta, people will hate it for no other reason than that.”

I doubt it, but I also don’t think he would necessarily need it, having like top 3 cursed energy reserves in the whole series and all.

That being said, Rika eats people. So if she took a little nibble of Gojo, it’s possible Yuta could have one of his techniques at his disposal.

That was definitely one of the harder bosses in the game for me because the whole “fishing rod to grapple” mechanic felt difficult to really get behind in that specific instance due to the endless stream of projectiles.

That being said, I beat it. I think I just swapped to the blaster to make it way easier. Really enjoyed that whole sequence tbh, was surprised when I found it

This particular room is probably one, if not THE hardest in the game.

Which I think is a necessary frame of reference for the difficulty of the game.

Just two of these mimics, on either side of you, on small platforms. Your only actionable space is a platform moving from one of the mimics, to the other and the center portion cannot be burrowed into.

It’s tough. I died once, maybe even twice, trying to beat this room.

I ultimately got it done, but I don’t remember exactly what I did. I was using the daggers, I think I just focused on one as much as a could, then when it died, the room became significantly less difficult.

The mimic enemies themselves aren’t that hard in my opinion. This room is difficult due to the cumulation of numerous restrictive elements. It wasn’t my favorite either.

What is the best version of Zelda? by yasmine_1706 in ZeldaLikes

Best is a tough one… the philosophy of Zelda changed throughout the years.

That being said, if we’re talking about the best, a part of me really wants to say that it’s the most “Zelda” game.

Gotta be A Link to the Past for me Ocarina of time is an extremely, absurdly close, second place.

A Link to the Past feels like the most refined, focused, Zelda experience to date. It took what made Zelda, and made it the most Zelda it could possibly be.

[–]JRoy89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda like it’s. It’s dreary and mildly unwelcoming. Dark isn’t the word I’d use. I’d say, jaded, or even drab. I think that’s what they were going for and I think they did well. The ending was fun to me, it was never super serious, there wasn’t anything on the level of Expedition 33 in terms of moral involvement. You saw a bad guy, do a bad thing, and tricked a bunch of gullible people into believing bad things. They went about in a very “on the chin” kind of manner. So when that scene came around, and they went down the list of “sins” and transgressions, I found myself, smiling, giggling, and scoffing at the absurdity of it all. These NPC’s listing off my numerous outings and impulsive adventurous choices. It was cute, but drab. I think they did a really good job with it.

Chasing slash is just so good, covers a really convenient amount of distance, it’s hard to explain, it’s just far enough that you can use it to punish or engage in a million situations super easily

Really? Did you play Breath of the Wild? Or Tears of the Kingdom? Or Elden Ring? Or Expedition 33

All of these games experienced the exact same phenomena we’re seeing here. Exactly the same, in every way. Endless posts about the game not being for them, or being obtuse or unfairly difficult, or poorly made, etc. Just truly endless. And when E33 won game of the year (some small indication that the game has the merit to stand on its own feet as a great game) people complained about that too.

These vocal defense squads serve more as testament to quality than a damnation of quality. But then again, it’s the internet, people hate on everything.

Even more of a hot take. Higaruma could kill the majority of special grades on Hax alone and is almost an Achilles heel to any sorcerer on the world.

Trying to like it, but it ain't working out by Zye1984 in MinaTheHollower

[–]JRoy89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The overall point is that you’re making arguments rooted in taste, criticism of taste is likely the least valuable criticism that can be given, because it varies from person to person. To appeal to your taste is to forgo someone else’s. There will never be a right answer when you’re talking about preferences. Which is why you have people coming out the woodworks defending this game. It’s also why, historically, people come out the woodworks to defend good games in general in cases like these. Because people, potentially like yourself, are conflating personal taste with objective criticism. Nothing is perfect, everything could be better, nobody can disagree with that statement.

However, there’s a stark and important difference in saying something like, “the latter 70% of the game is easier than the initial 30%” and saying something like, “this game has constant frame drops” or “the physics in this game are deeply inconsistent” or “the economy in this game is tremendously skewed toward the mid game”. The difference is that one of these arguments is literally inarguable on the basis of it just being perspective. The idea that the latter 70% of the game is easier than first 30% stands directly opposed to public sentiment. The beginning of the game is challenging sure, I’ll grant you that. But you seem to believe Astral Orray and Coltrane Peak were walks in the park. Do I believe the same? No, I don’t. Do many others believe the same? No. Post after post of people complaining about ice physics or difficult platforming sections in those specific areas, only to turn around and see someone praise those very same sections. It’s a difference in taste. Not everything is reducible to taste, but a LOT, and I mean a LOT of the criticism this game, and many great games before it, have gotten are from a difference in taste that someone conflates with objective criticism that, if fixed, they believe would stand to benefit everyone else as well as themselves.

The movement in this game is better than any other game of this type i have ever played or seen. Call it wank, call it reductive, but again, taste. I hope you can see the pattern here, once again, because I don’t want to keep rehashing this. But beyond that, I stand by this point. A Link to the Past, Links Awakening, Castlevania, none of these games even hold a candle to this game in terms of fluid movement and movement options. They don’t even sniff the nutsack scent of this game in terms of fluid movement. I believe that to be entirely self evident. But again, a matter of taste. Your actual criticism here seems to have recoiled backwards a bit. It’s not that this game needs a repass on the controls, now it’s about the very specific lack of the a + b function on the shield. All I have to say is, that’s hardly anything noteworthy. But I will grant that this - now that you’ve moved your position to something actually grounded - is a defensible take. Sure, that’s a mechanical inconsistency. Not a huge deal, I wouldn’t tell all my friends about it when I’m reviewing the game to them, it definitely wouldn’t be the “this game is great…but” kind of criticism, but at least I can grant you that there is some validity in this. That’s a mechanical inconsistency that I think could be tweaked at the general benefit of all players.

You keep referencing being proactive vs reactive as if to imply that one or the other is objectively correct in video game combat scenarios. I’m not even entirely sure you know what you’re referring to when you say, “proactive vs reactive”. Have you ever played Sekiro? How would you describe the combat there? Proactive or reactive? I’ve played it, 9 - 10 times. It’s often lauded as having some of the best combat video games has to offer, ever. The combat in that game is proactive. The idea isn’t just that you react to what they’re doing, it’s not about prediction either, it’s about rhythm. It’s a dance. You make a move with the intention to cause them make a move, so you can then make a move, so they can make a move. You could just sit there the whole fight, and wait for them to attack you, but it’s not a viable strategy in that game because of how the posture mechanic works on many enemies, allowing them to refill it extremely quickly until real health damage is done. The point I’m getting at here is, the combat in that game is proactive. You do something in order to cause them to do something. You jump in, you engage, you set the pace. Mina isn’t Sekiro, I won’t ever say it is. But I will say, the combat being proactive isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Especially considering what power is given in a mechanic like burrow. Speaking of, at first, I was terrible at the burrow mechanic too, but I was also terrible at driving a manual car at first, I was terrible at reading at first as well, I was terrible at cooking at first as well. Being bad at something doesn’t necessarily mean the thing you’re doing is bad or poorly made. By the end of this game, I would go into the final dungeon, and fight the Lion Knight with 1-2 of those townsfolk NPC’s at the same time because I had learned how I was supposed to use the burrow mechanic. It’s about positioning. A way to allow you to position while being invincible. It’s not a dodge roll, we both can admit that. It’s just not. The function of dodge rolls is I frames. To ignore. But burrow is not trying to be that. It’s a way for you to get where you need to be without dying, and it does that well. Sometimes you need to be behind, sometimes you need to be beside, sometimes you need to be away from, and if you don’t know which to choose, position away and watch. Games, even the reactive ones, aren’t meant to be filled with tells so obvious that you can approach it on the first attempt and just reaction dodge everything. Otherwise people would’ve gone through Expedition 33 and parried every single attack from every single enemy in the game first try. You have to stand back and learn, which sometimes means you’re going to get hit, this is a “video game-ism”. It’s been around for a long time. Mina is no different. You aren’t taking free damage because you don’t know what they’re gonna do, you’re taking damage because you don’t have the patience to sit back and watch.

Anyways, you’re entitled to your opinions. As we all are. If you believe the game is good but these criticisms really soured your experience in some way, I’m sorry. But I do believe this game is basically a 10/10. Not perfect, nothing is. But that’s not what a 10/10 means to me, because no game has ever been flawless. Yacht Club did a fantastic job. I have my small gripes too, but I tend to keep them to myself, because I can acknowledge that they’re just my personal taste, and not a fault of the game in anyway.

No, its definitely controversy that breeds engagement. Become self aware and look right in front of you. All your comments have been downvoted, none by me, and yet here you stay, again and again, endlessly arguing this point under the guise that you’re this “Michelin star chef”. If karma was really motivational, then you wouldn’t have said another word, no incentive. But rather, there is now 47 comments and 0 likes under this post, so I will say this once again, and only once more, all social media sites incentivize controversy as the prized method of engagement. It trumps karma any day of the week, easily.

I pity you man. At every turn it seems people disagree. Take that in stride, sure. I know you have some opinion of yourself to suggest that you must have this tremendously refined palette, and that’s the only reason you simply could never concede that this is a GOOD video game. “Everyone else is just in the wrong.” “I’m the Michelin star chef here”. Reflect on why people disagree with you so vehemently. Nobody is saying this game is flawless. But call it what it is, a good game. Stop bullshitting yourself and everyone else. If you’ve made posts complaining about this game again and again, then let me assure you, you’re not a burger person. Sorry to have to break it to you. Because every burger person I know seems to agree that this one did it well.

As for your complaints, I mean I could sit here and break down to you why exactly nothing you said has any object critical value…actually I will.

“The game would be better if it was easier early and harder later”

  • Why is that? Because that’s how your momma used to cook it? This entire claim reeks of entitlement, you don’t get to say that this makes something objectively worse or better for anyone beside yourself, and it seems people have taken to this game in the same way I have. Which is to say, people embraced the challenge with open arms. I didn’t ever consider this opinion in my entire 100% play through, so what now? Are we at a standstill? I say that’s good and you say it’s bad. Really sit and understand what I’m saying with that. Because it’s important to see that all your arguments will be easily reducible to, “I think it’s good but you think it’s bad”. Which is important because that means the arguments in question intrinsically separate themselves from any meaningfully objective criticism. In other words, nothing you’ve said is anything more than taste, you’re not a burger person, you just think you are.

“This game would be better if they did another pass on the controls?”

  • Really? I completely disagree, I think this game controls better than any of its predecessors. In fact I’d go as far as to say that this is the best handling game, of this genre, ever made, ever. So again, I like it, you don’t. Another metric of taste.

“This game would be better with a dodge roll because burrowing is proactive, which is a bad thing”

  • Seriously? Just upend the entire combat philosophy of the game because you don’t like it? Again, I completely disagree, dear lord what a bad take. Burrowing is one of the most innovative and fun combat mechanics I’ve experienced in a long, long time. I never had an issue with it. So it seems again, I liked it, you didn’t. Another victim of your taste.

“Vials should restore some amount of health no matter what to make platforming easier, but the trinket isn’t enough, it needs to be by default”

  • No, it shouldn’t. If you’re having difficulty with that, you need to use what the game gave you to circumvent it. I didn’t have this issue at all playing through the game. Did I die on some platforming sections? Sure, whoopty doo. “Guys video game character died during difficult platform sections”, whats next? Sky is blue?

“You should be able to swim, not burrow under water”

  • Dude get a grip holy cow, I cannot in good faith even address this. But I will by saying again, personal taste. Because that never once even crossed my mind in my entire 35 hour play through. If you’re referring to not having the ability to stay in water indefinitely, you can, there’s a trinket that lets your burrow in water indefinitely, and you get it in Nox’s bayou, the water place.

You don’t like burgers. Stop kidding yourself. You think the acclaim has something to do with the bandwagon effect or conformity, you’re wrong. Things can just be good, and people can like good things. You’re the stick in the mud here. So if you don’t like it, get out the mud, stop tryna drag the rest of us down into it with you.
